India vs West Indies: Hardik Pandya Misses Out as Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi Break Into ODI Squad

Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir and Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi have received their first call-ups to Indias ODI squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies. The selectors have also left out senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, with the two missing out for different reasons. India are scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is against the West Indies, with the series beginning on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. The T20I squad largely features players selected for the Asian Games. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav have been added to the side in place of Yash Thakur and Vipraj Nigam. KL Rahul has been named ODI vice-captain in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. Meanwhile, after the Asian Games Jasprit Bumrah will directly play ODIs in New Zealand. Pandya is expected to be declared fit on September 20. However, the national selection panel is unlikely to consider him unless he demonstrates his ability to bowl his full quota of 10 overs for India A. The selectors have also moved Nitish Kumar Reddy out of the Asian Games squad and included him in the ODI team for the West Indies series. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has returned to the ODI setup. Dhir earned his selection after impressive performances in domestic cricket for Punjab and during his IPL stint with Mumbai Indians. Nabi, meanwhile, has been rewarded for his strong performances for Surrey in the English County Championship, earning his maiden call-up to Indias ODI squad.
