Meghalaya links farm income to water security, releases 28.60 crore to 1.14 lakh households in Tura

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma released Rs 28.60 crore under FOCUS+ for 1,14,400 farming households, including 9,070 new beneficiaries. The programme provides eligible households Rs 5,000 annually through direct benefit transfers. The event also highlighted MegARISE, a Rs 344.4 crore conservation project covering the Ganol and Umiew catchments. Two communities have voluntarily begun the process of declaring their catchment areas protected under the Meghalaya Protection Act, 1990, while also exploring community-led ecotourism. The Ganol catchment is crucial to Turas long-term water security.
