A 17-year acid rain experiment at Canadas Lake 223 changed its water chemistry and disrupted its ecosystem. Although the lakes acidity has since recovered, its lake trout population remains below half its original level. Scientists are now reintroducing a lost food-web species to study whether the ecosystem can recover.
