Demand for NRC before census sparks bandh and clashes as Manipur protests intensify

Protests and a bandh continued for a second day demanding the National Register of Citizens. Tyre burning and tear gas were used as protestors intensified their agitation. The Chief Minister and opposition Congress supported the implementation of the NRC. A delegation of MLAs will visit New Delhi to discuss the NRC updation. The Census self-enumeration phase was scheduled to begin on August 17.
