Surging electricity demand from new data centers and industrial electrification is colliding with extreme summer heat waves that strain existing generator capacity. Meeting those sudden evening spikes usually means firing up costly, inefficient fossil fuel peaker plants. Yet a massive battery capacity already exists, sitting parked in municipal lots and port corridors for most of the day.
