Ray-Ban Display: Meta Rolls Out Neural Handwriting For Silent AI Interactions

Meta has officially launched its neural handwriting feature in the Early Access Program (EAP) for the Ray-Ban Display smart glasses. Powered by the companys surface electromyography ( sEMG ) Neural Band , this update enables silent AI interactions by interpreting subtle muscle movements in the wrist and finger, allowing users to input text without typing on a physical screen or speaking aloud. To utilize the feature , users can draw letters using their index finger on a stable surface while their display is active. This gesture system allows individuals to issue AI queries , request navigation directions , play music, and send messages discreetly. For optimal performance, Meta advises writing in print rather than cursive, maintaining a steady pace, and resting the wrist on a hard surface. The system leverages on-device artificial intelligence to automatically detect and rectify spelling errors in real time, eliminating the need for users to manually pause or correct mistakes during input. Metas Neural Band Accessing this experimental capability requires pairing the Neural Band with updated smart glasses and enabling the setting within the Meta AI app . Users must navigate to device settings, select the Early Access menu, and toggle on Meta AI with neural handwriting . This release builds on features teased in December 2025, moving Meta closer to its broader vision for augmented reality (AR) hardware. Industry experts consider sEMG technology a fundamental component for true hands-free computing , as it translates physiological signals into digital commands without requiring visual tracking hardware or voice control. By capturing minor neuromuscular impulses, the Neural Band provides an intuitive control interface that operates silently in public environments. Alongside neural handwriting, Meta continues to test additional gesture controls and platform integrations, including Instagram Reels support, to expand the utility of its wearable ecosystem.
