What is dark matter? All about the universes biggest mystery after scientists found possible signal in South Dakota gold mine

Dark matter is an invisible form of matter believed to make up about 85% of all matter in the universe. Scientists have never directly detected it, but its gravitational effects on galaxies provide strong evidence that it exists. The mystery has gained fresh attention after the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment in a former South Dakota gold mine recorded a rare particle interaction that could potentially be linked to a dark matter candidate called a WIMP. However, researchers say the single event is not enough to confirm a discovery.
