Psychology says people who leave the price tag on gifts may be sending a message without saying a word

Gift-givers often assumed that a higher price tag would make the recipient more grateful, believing that spending more was a sign of greater care and thoughtfulness. Recipients, however, did not appear to judge the value of a gift in the same way, with appreciation showing little connection to how much the giver had spent.
