Psychology says people who invent stories about strangers may naturally engage in social imagination

Inventing stories about strangers does not necessarily mean someone is nosy, judgmental or disconnected from reality. It may simply reflect the way social cognition, mentalizing and spontaneous thought work together, as the mind naturally tries to imagine other peoples experiences, intentions and possible stories.
