Kentuckys Mammoth Cave has a vast underground water network fed by rainwater entering sinkholes and cracks in the limestone. The same rapid pathways that supply cave rivers can also carry sewage, chemicals, pesticides and other pollutants underground, threatening the caves fragile aquatic ecosystems.
