Arizona introduced American bullfrogs a century ago for sport, which now threatens native gartersnakes. These nonnative frogs disrupt food chains and outcompete native species for resources. Bullfrogs are highly mobile and difficult to control, spreading rapidly across habitats. Gartersnakes have vanished from ninety percent of their historical range due to these invasive predators. Conservation efforts are underway to remove bullfrogs and help native populations recover.
