The removal of the Shapp Pond Dam in Dutchess County, New York, helped restore aquatic connectivity and improve stream habitat along the East Branch of Wappinger Creek. The 12-foot-high dam had blocked migratory fish, altered natural flow and sediment patterns, and created conditions favorable to non-native and invasive species.
