In 2009, unemployed metal detectorist Terry Herbert spent five days searching an English field and uncovered a huge Anglo-Saxon treasure worth 3.285 million ($4.34 million). The Staffordshire Hoard contained thousands of gold and silver pieces and is considered the largest known collection of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork ever found.
