In 2000, Purdue University researchers developed a modified office chair that used pressure sensors and computer software to identify how people were sitting. Tested on 30 people, the system achieved 96 percent overall accuracy and was especially effective at recognizing slouching, reaching 99.8 percent accuracy for that posture.The chair created detailed pressure maps from information collected by sensing elements called sensels, allowing software to distinguish different seating positions.
