In 1971, Apollo 14 carried roughly 500 tree seeds around the Moon. The seeds were planted across America after returning to Earth, but NASA did not keep a complete record of their locations. A NASA scientist later began searching for the trees after a teacher asked about one in Indiana. His work has identified more than 80 surviving Moon Trees.
