Gunfire and explosions reported in Niger's capital, local media and witnesses say

Niamey's night sky lit up with heavy gunfire and explosions, echoing through the capital of Niger. The chaos unfolded near the Diori Hamani International Airport and in the vicinity of the presidential palace. Following the unrest, security personnel swiftly established a presence in the area. With this being the third disturbance at the airport this year, the military council has called for solidarity and heightened vigilance among the populace.
