FBI arrests woman accused of spying for China in US

Wanying Zhang, a 34-year-old woman from Irvine, was arrested by the FBI at a Los Angeles airport. She is accused of acting as an unregistered agent for China and spying on a Taiwanese official. During 2025, Zhang surveilled a close relative of a Taiwanese government official in Seattle and collected sensitive information. FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the arrest signals a warning to foreign espionage activities in the country.
