Carrion crows were observed using busy roads as nutcrackers. They placed walnuts in the path of vehicles to break hard shells. After cars moved away, the birds retrieved the exposed nut pieces. This behaviour was documented repeatedly over a 21-month observation period. Researchers found this systematic and intentional method of obtaining food.
