Geothermal heating has a rich history in Boise, Idaho, dating back to the 1890s, providing sustainable warmth to numerous downtown buildings. Although it faced challenges that hindered its growth, the recent surge in gas prices and interest in renewable energy has revitalized this system. Presently, about 100 buildings benefit, with ongoing efforts aimed at extending connections to multifamily residences, despite ongoing hurdles related to geology, regulation, and costs.
