Hispanic Heritage month 2026: Origin, date, events and how you can participate

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 to October 15 throughout the United States. This month commemorates the independence of several Latin American countries and recognizes their contributions to American society. The celebration evolved from a week-long event in 1968, initiated by Congressman George E. Brown. It was extended to a month-long observance in 1988, marking the cultural significance of Hispanic and Latino communities.
