National Science Day 2026: Why February 28 is significant and how this years theme spotlights youth-led innovation

National Science Day 2026 will be observed across India on February 28 to commemorate Sir C. V. Ramans discovery of the Raman Effect in 1928, which earned the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics. Officially celebrated since 1987 following an NCSTC recommendation, the day promotes scientific awareness beyond laboratories. This years theme, Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat, highlights youth participation in research, innovation and science-led national development.
