US midterm elections 2026: The 2026 midterms are still ahead, yet the next presidential race is already creeping into political conversation. A new McLaughlin & Associates poll puts former Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the Democratic field and Vice President JD Vance ahead of the Republicans. The survey was conducted from Sept. 16 through Sept. 22 among 463 likely voters. Harris received 29%, followed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom at 12%.
