Psychology says people who read silently instead of out loud may store details differently in their brains

Research in psychology suggests that reading information aloud can make certain details more memorable than reading them silently. Known as the production effect, the benefit may come from actively saying and hearing the words, while reading aloud may also reduce mind wandering. Studies suggest the effect is stronger for remembering specific information than for improving comprehension.
