No plastic, only coconut leaves: Bengaluru Christ University professor builds Rs 70 crore business by making eco-friendly straws, products are exported to 25 countries

After a serendipitous finding, an English professor from Christ University in Bengaluru has pioneered the creation of eco-friendly and plastic-free straws using coconut leaves, leading to the establishment of Sunbird Straws. Now exporting to more than twenty-five countries, this sustainable initiative not only provides durable and antifungal products that maintain their integrity in water but also supports rural women in local manufacturing.
