New Jersey dumped 219 turtles in a river; now rescuers are building stations to help them survive winter season. Now their return to the wild is complicated

A significant number of turtles have been rescued from a river in New Jersey, sparking urgent rehabilitation efforts. The rescued turtles include native Eastern box turtles alongside non-native three-toed box turtles. As winter nears, unique facilities are being set up to support the turtles through their brumation phase. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to track down the individuals responsible for their dumping, as conservationists strategise on potential release plans.
