Four centuries ago, Elizabeth Key Grinstead became one of the first-ever women of African American descent to sue for her freedom in the American colonies and win her freedom. One of her living descendants is none other than Hollywood star Johnny Depp, known for many blockbuster films such as Pirates of the Caribbean.
