Scientists are rethinking the role of the thymus, a tiny organ behind the breastbone that was long considered largely useless in adults. A new Nature study found that healthier thymuses were linked to lower risks of death, lung cancer and cardiovascular disease, suggesting the organ may play an important role in adult health and longevity.
