Ireland turns retired wind turbine blades into bridges and furniture. How Kilrush is giving renewable energy waste a second life

In Kilrush, County Clare, retired wind turbine blades are transformed into public infrastructure such as a pedestrian bridge. This project, led by Clare Local Development Company and BladeBridge, emphasizes the concept of a circular economy. Sections of the blades are also used to create benches and picnic tables for public spaces. Approximately 11,000 tonnes of wind turbine blades are expected to be decommissioned in Ireland by 2026.
