In 2013, John and Jennifer Church bought a 120-year-old textile mill planning to sell the land, but changed plans after discovering its historic brickwork. The Chronicle Mill in Belmont, North Carolina, was converted into a mixed-use development with 238 apartments, commercial space and a public coworking area. The $60 million adaptive reuse project opened in 2023 after construction, environmental and pandemic-related delays.
