After her husband died during a measles epidemic in 1900, Sinrock Mary was left fighting to keep their herd of 500 reindeer. She challenged attempts to take control of the animals, turned the herd into a successful meat business during the Nome Gold Rush and eventually became known as Alaskas Reindeer Queen.
