Lou Henry Hoovers journey to the White House was far from ordinary. After becoming the first woman to graduate from Stanford University with a geology degree, she married mining engineer Herbert Hoover in 1899 and began a life that took her across China, Europe and other parts of the world. Along the way, she raised two sons, supported humanitarian efforts, worked with the Girl Scouts and became an advocate for womens athletics.
