In 1994, Japanese astronaut Chiaki Mukai was pleasantly shocked to find that new life could indeed be born in space. Four fish he had carried with him on the space mission were able to hatch 43 eggs in space. When they returned to Earth, the hatchlings were able to grow completely normally.
