Bengaluru flat security deposit is 'volunteered robbery': Landlord's surprise deductions leave tenant with just Rs 7,500 out of Rs 40,000 advance

A Bengaluru tenants Reddit post has sparked a debate over rental deposits after he claimed that his Rs 40,000 advance was reduced to just Rs 7,500 following deductions for rent, painting, cleaning, maintenance and electricity. The tenant said some of the charges were not part of his rental agreement and called paying rental advances volunteered robbery.
