New research suggests childhood trauma may be linked to difficulties experiencing pleasure in adulthood through changes in brain pathways involving the hippocampus, a region usually associated with memory. The study found that people with a history of childhood trauma and disrupted hippocampal pathways reported more anhedonia, while researchers say further work is needed to determine whether these changes can be targeted to improve motivation and pleasure.
