Pandharpur Vitthal-Rukmini idols get protective coating: Why is it being done and what's the Vajralepan process

Conservation work on the ancient Vitthal and Rukmini idols commenced this week under ASI supervision. The idols are undergoing scientific cleaning and protective coating to preserve their integrity for future generations. Digital documentation of the idols has been completed to aid future preservation efforts. The temple will reopen for devotees on September 26 after the conservation is finished.
