Ataris 1983 disposal of video-game cartridges and computer equipment at an Alamogordo, New Mexico landfill became one of gamings most famous stories. A 2014 excavation recovered about 1,300 cartridges, including E.T.,Pac-Man and Asteroids. The discovery helped distinguish the broader Atari dump from the legend surrounding E.T.and turned some discarded cartridges into valuable collectors items.
