Britains European turtle dove population has fallen by 98% since the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 2026, conservationists released 30 birds in Hampshire as part of efforts to restore the species. One released female has already laid eggs, offering an encouraging early sign. Farmers, conservation groups and local residents are also helping by restoring habitat and reporting sightings to track the birds movements.
