Quote of the day by Oscar Wilde: 'When in love, one always begins by deceiving one's self, and always ends by deceiving others. That is romance...' - The uncomfortable truth about how people see love when emotions take over explained by the Irish writer

Oscar Wildes famous quote on love from The Picture of Dorian Gray offers a sharp view of romance, suggesting that people first deceive themselves before eventually deceiving others. Spoken by Lord Henry Wotton, the line reflects Wildes wider interest in love, appearances and human nature, while also connecting with themes explored in his other works. The quote of the day remains striking for the way it challenges the idealised idea of romance and turns it into a reflection on illusion and self-deception.
