Psychology says people who compliment you right before asking for help may be doing more than being nice

People often make requests feel warmer and less demanding by expressing appreciation, offering praise or using polite language. Giving someone a genuine compliment before asking for help does not automatically make the interaction manipulative, even if the sequence resembles a persuasion strategy. What may be more psychologically revealing is when praise appears only when the person wants something in return.
