India showed during Operation Sindoor how air power can shape military outcomes: IAF chief
NEW DELHI: Highlighting the Indian Air Force's old and precise operations during Operation Sindoor, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said it showed that air power can shape military outcomes in a short span of time. Our performance in Operation Sindoor fills us with professional pride. We proved to the world how air power can be effectively used in shaping military outcomes in just a few days, he said. Air Chief Marshal Singh was addressing air warriors on the occasion of the 93rd Air Force Day at the Hindon air base. The Chief of Air Staff described Operation Sindoor as a shining example of what can be achieved through meticulous planning, disciplined training and determined execution. India's bold and precise attacks restored the rightful place of offensive air action in the national consciousness, he said. Operation Sindoor was a joint military operation launched on May 7 to destroy the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the killing of 26 civilians on April 22. Destroyed multiple Pak jets, including five high-tech fighters likely F-16s, JF-17s in Op Sindoor: IAF chief The military operations, Air Chief Marshal Singh underlined, not only restricted the enemy's operational ability but also vindicated the efficacy of indigenously manufactured weapons. Our robust air defence architecture and offensive employment of long-range surface-to-air missile systems limited the adversary's ability to operate and ensured safety of our vital assets, he said. The outstanding performance of the indigenously developed and integrated weapons which delivered precise and devastating blows deep inside enemy territory vindicates our faith in home-grown capabilities, he said. Air Chief Marshal Singh noted that the increasing pace of integration of new systems, weapons and equipment into the IAF's operational plans has been a significant success. I can see that there is an increased culture of accountability, safety and security amongst the air warriors and this is directly reflected in our reduced incidents and accidents, he said. At all levels, leaders are leading from the front, demonstrating exceptional vision and empathy. They are ensuring that every individual is empowered with the necessary training and is motivated, he added. Air Chief Marshal Singh felicitated air warriors for their gallantry, meritorious and dedicated service to the nation. They were also handed citations for their exceptional professional contribution.

A seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Madhya Pradesh, led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, conducted a probe at the factory of a drug manufacturer near Chennai on Wednesday to investigate the deaths of 20 children in Madhya Pradesh allegedly caused by contaminated cough syrup. The SIT later visited the companys registered office in Chennai to gather documents and CCTV footage. Officials said the factory owner had left the premises three days earlier. The Tamil Nadu police assisted the SIT during the inspections. The pharmaceutical company, based in Chennai, had supplied the cough syrup Coldrif to markets in Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had sealed the pharmaceutical factory in Kancheepuram district on Tuesday evening. Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla said on October 7 that 20 children had died from kidney failure after consuming the syrup. Tests conducted by the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration found the samples from the factory to be adulterated, following which production was ordered to stop immediately. Five children remain critical after contaminated cough syrup claims 20 lives The state government also banned the sale of Coldrif from October 1 and directed that all stocks be removed from the market. The company has not yet issued any statement. 'Public alert - stop use notice' against two cough syrups in Telangana Meanwhile, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration issued a public alert stop use notice for two other syrups -- Relife and Respifresh TR -- manufactured by Gujarat-based firms, after laboratory tests in Madhya Pradesh detected the toxic chemical Diethylene Glycol (DEG). Authorities urged the public to stop using these products and report them to local drug control offices. The incident came to light after six children, aged between one and seven, from different parts of the Parasia area (also known as Koylanchal for its coal mining activity), died from kidney-related complications after consuming adulterated cough syrup. The children initially suffered from cold and mild fever. Local doctors prescribed routine medications, including cough syrups. After taking the medicines, the children initially appeared to recover, but within days their symptoms returned, accompanied by a sharp decline in urine output. Dr Praveen Soni , who prescribed the syrup to kids in Madhya Pradesh, has been arrested on charges of negligence. However, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) defended Soni , arguing that systemic lapses by the pharmaceutical company and regulatory authorities also contributed to the tragedy. The IMA has demanded strict action against those responsible for the deaths linked to contaminated cough syrup, compensation for affected families, and support for the doctor. It criticised the poor drug regulations and mishandling of the case. Tests suggest the syrup contained toxic chemicals and was wrongly sold for children under four. The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended two drug inspectors and a deputy director, and transferred the state drug controller. The Union Health Ministry found one of ten syrup samples failed quality tests and has launched inspections in six states. Several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, have banned Coldrif syrup and seized contaminated batches. The Punjab and Himachal Pradesh governments have also banned the sale, distribution and use of Coldrif cough syrup. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have started safety drives and surveys, while opposition parties have demanded accountability and a judicial probe into the regulatory lapses behind the tragedy. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI probe and sweeping reforms in Indias drug safety framework following the incident. (With inputs from PTI)

Chances of war with India are real,' says Pakistans defence minister
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that chances of war with India are real and claimed that his country would achieve even bigger success in the case of any armed conflict in future. Asif made the remarks in an interview with Samaa TV on Tuesday, where the anchor asked him about the recent statements by the Indian political and military leaders. The minister said that there was a threat of armed confrontation and Pakistan was keeping its guard and watching the situation. Chances of war with India are real, Asif said in response to a question. He added that Pakistan would likely achieve more favourable results in the event of a war with India. I do not want escalation, but the risks are real, and I am not denying that. If it comes to war, God willing, we will achieve a better result than before, Asif said. He said that Pakistan has more supporters and allies than it had six months ago, while claiming that India had even lost the support of the countries which were on its side before the May conflict. If they try again, score will be far better: Pakistan Defence Minister 'warns' India against future conflict However, he refrained from naming any country in the category. Asif also claimed that India was never a united nation, except briefly under Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, and that Pakistan was created in the name of Allah and stood united during the May confrontation despite several internal issues. At home, we argue and compete. In a fight with India, we come together, he said. His remarks come just days after he made similar threats following statements from Indian Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, who warned Pakistan to stop backing state-sponsored terrorism if it wants to exist on the world map. Separately, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh on Friday said at least a dozen Pakistani military aircraft, including US-origin F-16 jets, were destroyed or damaged in Indian strikes during Operation Sindoor. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking at an event in Hyderabad on Friday, asserted that India can cross any border whenever necessary to protect citizens and safeguard its unity and integrity. In response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan. The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10. India has been maintaining that Pakistan pleaded for ending the hostilities in May after the Indian military pounded various Pakistani military infrastructure.

Amid ongoing violence in DR Congo, medicines in most healthcare facilities exhausted, says ICRC
KINSHASA: More than 80 percent of healthcare facilities have exhausted their supplies of essential medicines in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where violence continues unabated, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported on Wednesday. For 30 years, the country's mineral-rich east has been riven by conflict, with violence intensifying earlier this year the M23 - a Rwandan-backed armed group -- seized the key cities of Goma and Bukavu. Clashes between the M23 and the Congolese army and allied militia have left thousands dead and millions displaced since January. Meanwhile, a US-brokered peace deal between the DRC and Rwanda in June is proving slow to take effect on the ground. In September, the ICRC studied 240 health centres and clinics in North and South Kivu provinces, where the front line has been stable since March. More than 85 percent of these facilities faced dwindling medication supplies and nearly 40 percent struggled with a shortage of staff, the ICRC reported. This dire situation is the result of armed violence and the fact that many humanitarian organizations have had to halt their activities because of a lack of funding, according to an ICRC statement. Healthcare facilities were being inundated with wounded people, with many crossing front lines and long distances only to find he medicines they need aren't available. More than 70 percent of the facilities assessed had admitted people wounded as a result of armed violence since the start of the year, the statement continued. Medical centres struggle to obtain medicines, even when they are available, due to difficulties in delivering them across front lines. Shortages very often affect essential medicines and those that are supposed to be free, such as vaccines, antimalarial and tuberculosis drugs, rape kits, and rapid HIV tests. Currently, more than 80 per cent of health facilities in the Kivu provinces receive no support from humanitarian partners and are only operational thanks to the remarkable commitment of their staff on both sides of the front lines, said Francois Moreillon, head of the ICRC's DRC delegation.
