Record-Breaking Voter Turnout in Maharashtra's 2024 Assembly Elections
Maharashtra's 2024 Assembly elections have set a new record with a voter turnout of 65.11%, the highest since the 1995 state elections. This represents a significant increase compared to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2019 Assembly elections, which saw voter participation at 61.39% and 61.4%, respectively. The heightened turnout is expected to be a crucial factor in determining the state's next government, with election results set to be announced on November 23. This year's voter turnout not only exceeded previous numbers but also marked the highest participation in three decades, last seen in 1995 when the turnout reached 71.7%. Factors Influencing the Surge The record-breaking turnout is likely influenced by intense campaigning and ongoing issues such as reservation debates and corruption allegations. This election is also unique, as it marks the first time that both Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are contesting as divided parties. Campaigns and Alliances The increase in voter engagement is largely attributed to the vigorous efforts of both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). In the previous Lok Sabha elections, the Mahayuticomprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and NCPsecured 42.71% of votes, while the MVAconsisting of Congress, Shiv Sena UBT, and NCP SPgarnered 43.91%. The 3.5% rise in voter turnout could be decisive in this close contest. Additionally, the number of registered voters has grown by 9.5%, with the current total standing at approximately 9.69 crore, compared to 8.85 crore in 2019. Statements from Key Leaders Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed optimism that the increased voter participation would benefit the ruling Mahayuti coalition. He highlighted that historically, a higher voter turnout has worked in favor of the BJP. In contrast, Congress state chief Nana Patole emphasized that the strong turnout reflects public enthusiasm, suggesting a possible MVA victory. He said that voters are eager for a government dedicated to their welfare. Urban vs Rural Voter Turnout Provisional data from the Election Commission of India (ECI) shows a higher voter turnout in rural regions compared to urban areas. Kolhapur district led with a turnout of 76.25%, while Mumbai had the lowest at 52.07%. In Kolhapur's Karvir constituency, 84.79% of voters cast their ballots, in a tight contest between Congress candidate Rahul Patil and Shinde Sena's Chandradip Narke. Meanwhile, South Mumbai's Colaba area reported only 44.49% turnout, with BJP's Rahul Narvekar facing Congress's Hira Dewasi. In the Baramati constituency, featuring a face-off between Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and his nephew Yugendra Pawar from NCP (SP), voter participation reached 71.03%, higher than 2019's 68.82%. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency reported a provisional 59.85% turnout, while Fadnaviss Nagpur South West had 54.49% participation. Exit Poll Projections Following the conclusion of voting, exit polls hint at an edge for the Mahayuti alliance over the MVA. The winning coalition needs at least 145 seats in the 288-member assembly to form the government. Predictions from various agencies show the following: Matrize: 150-170 seats for Mahayuti, 110-130 for MVA. Chanakya Strategies: 152-160 seats for Mahayuti, 130-138 for MVA. People's Pulse: 175-195 seats for Mahayuti, 85-112 for MVA. Pradeep Gupta from Axis My India announced that additional exit poll data would be released on November 21, while CVoter might share its analysis on Thursday. Historically, exit polls have faced challenges in accurately predicting results. Previous discrepancies were observed during both Lok Sabha and recent Haryana Assembly elections, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding these projections. Maharashtra records 60% voter turnout
New Delhi: An estimated 60 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Maharashtra Assembly elections on Wednesday, where the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is making a determined bid to retain power and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition is hoping to continue its good showing in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Till 5 pm, the Election Commission recorded the electorate turnout in the state at an impressive 58.22 per cent. Assuming that the voters turn out in large numbers in the last hour, the voting percentage is expected to swell further. Urban voter apathy continued to bog down the western state, particularly in Mumbai, Pune and Thane regions but the rural and semi-urban areas compensated to keep the overall poll percentage dignified. The voting began in the state at 7 am and after a sluggish beginning, the electorate turnout started to pick up later. Naxal affected Gadchiroli district witnessed the highest turnout at 69.63 per cent in the state. The ECI lamented that despite a range of measures taken by it for ease of voting besides motivational campaigns, urban voters in Maharashtra continued their dismal record of low participation in cities including Mumbai, Pune and Thane. Mumbai City recorded 51 per cent while Mumbai suburban was 55.07 per cent. Thane has a dismal 53.57 per cent and Pune 57.66 per cent. In 2019, Mumbai city was 48.22 per cent and Mumbai suburban was 51.28 per cent. In Mumbai, celebrities spurred on voters to show up at the polling booths and fulfil their responsibilities. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar voted along with his family. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Union minister Nitin Gadkari were also among the early voters. NCP leader Ajit Pawar and his wife Sunetra Pawar cast their vote at Katewadi in Baramati area of Pune district. Lok Sabha MP and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule and her daughter cast their votes in Baramati. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed confidence that the Mahayuti government will get a thumping majority as people will vote for development and work done by his regime. People have seen their (Maha Vikas Aghadis) two-and-a-half years of rule vis-a-vis the work done by us in the same amount of time. People will vote for development and for the work done by us, Shinde said. Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said that his party will emerge as the largest party and the MVA will form the government in Maharashtra. There is significant enthusiasm among the people, and the self-respecting citizens of Maharashtra will elect a government that prioritizes the states welfare. Considering the publics response, the Congress party will emerge as the largest party in the state. The formation of a Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state is certain, he said.
Dismal record continues: EC on low Maha turnout
The Election Commission expressed disappointment over the continued low voter turnout in urban areas of Maharashtra despite their efforts to increase participation. Despite motivational campaigns and measures for ease of voting, cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Thane recorded a dismal voter turnout. While Maharashtra recorded an overall voter turnout of 58.22 percent as of 5 PM, Jharkhand saw a higher turnout of 67.59 percent. The EC attributed the low turnout to urban apathy, a trend observed in previous state and parliamentary elections.
Maharashtra assembly polls: 'Dismal record' of metropolitan voters continues, say EC
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Wednesday lamented that despite a range of measures taken by it for ease of voting besides motivational campaigns, urban voters in Maharashtra continued their dismal record of low participation in cities including Mumbai, Pune and Thane. Polling for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand concluded on Wednesday with the former recording 58.22 per cent voter turnout as of 5 PM and the latter 67.59 per cent, surpassing the 67.04 per cent voting in the corresponding assembly seats in 2019. Maharashtra with 58.22 per cent polling is likely to cross the 2019 figures as voting still underway in the state, EC said. While Maharashtra had assembly polls in a single phase, Jharkhand had polls in two phases. The poll watchdog said special emphasis was placed on combating urban apathy owing to the trend of low voter turnout witnessed in urban centres in Maharashtra in past state and parliamentary elections. More than 1,185 polling stations were set up in high rise buildings and societies and various awareness and mass mobilisation campaigns were organised ahead of the polls involving film celebrities, EC's state and national icons, to nudge urban and young voters. Urban apathy is a phenomenon where voters in urban areas, especially youths, prefer to stay at home and do not turn up at polling stations on voting day. Most Wanted Maoist Leader Vikram Gowda Killed in Police Encounter
BANGALORE: One of the most wanted Maoist leaders in South India, Vikram Gowda, was killed by Karnataka Police in an encounter in the Kabbinale forest region of Udupi district. The news was confirmed by Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday. Parameshwara said, Our police forces encountered notorious Maoist leader Vikram Gowda on Monday evening. After being spotted by the police, Gowda opened fire at them. The police returned fire and killed him. While Gowda was killed, three of his associates managed to escape during the encounter. Authorities have continued their combing operations in the area to track them down, Parameshwara added. The police had been monitoring Vikram Gowda's movements closely. They received credible information about his location, which led to the operation, he explained. We believed the Maoist activity had ended in the state. However, last week, we detected the movements of Maoist leaders Raju and Latha. After this, we conducted a combing operation for over a week, Parameshwara said. Based on new intelligence, the police launched the operation to capture Vikram Gowda. The Gowda group had attacked the police forces, and we had no option but to shoot him down, Parameshwara said. The Home Minister also mentioned that the state government had made efforts to integrate Maoists into society, especially in the Pavagada region of Tumakuru district, through dialogue. These efforts are still ongoing. We are open to welcoming Maoists who wish to surrender and lead normal lives. However, such encounters can happen when they attempt to escape in forested areas, he added. Vikram Gowda had been on the run for the last 20 years. Despite multiple attempts to catch him, he managed to evade capture until now. His death marks the end of a long pursuit by Karnataka Police, said the Home Minister. Chennai Shocker! Congress blames BJP, Mahayuti for Marathwada's water crisis
Around 30 to 40 villages in Thane district are facing severe water crisis as almost all the wells in the area have gone dry. Residents have to walk almost 2.5 km to fetch water for their regular needs. The government has arranged water tankers which fill all the wells thrice a week. This is not enough to meet requirements, even if it is used only for drinking and cooking. For other purposes people have to travel to River Khadavli, around 5 km away. The government promised that water from Bhavali Dam, which is also nearby, would be supplied to these people, but that will still take a few years. In 2017, a man named Tukaram from this area died on his five km travel to fetch water. New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday accused the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra of creating a water crisis in Marathwada and said the region's water woes remain a glaring example of its inadequate planning and failure to provide sustainable solutions. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said the Mahayuti's six-step guide to creating a water crisis includes delayed implementation of a water grid. The Mahayutis Six-Step Guide to Creating a Water Crisis: 1. Delayed Implementation of Water Grid: Despite launching the ambitious Marathwada Water Grid Project in 2019, the BJP-led government failed to ensure its timely execution. 2. Revival Without Results: Upon returning to Jairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) November 19, 2024 Despite launching the ambitious Marathwada Water Grid Project in 2019, the BJP-led government failed to ensure its timely execution, he said in his post on X. Ramesh said that after returning to power by horse-trading in 2022, the Mahayuti revived the Water Grid Project but its execution continues to be slow, with no substantial relief provided to Marathwada's water-scarce regions so far. The government's focus on securing Rs 20,000 crore from the central government and international organisations has delayed the scheme's implementation on the ground, the Congress leader said. He also alleged that there was a failure on the part of the Mahayuti government to address the issue of unpredictable rainfall. Initiatives like Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan and other irrigation schemes failed to mitigate the recurring droughts or support agricultural resilience in the face of erratic rainfall, Ramesh said. Accusing the Mahayuti government of short-termist crisis management, Ramesh said the BJP's response, including temporary measures like the 2016 Latur water train, was insufficient to address the systemic causes of the crisis. He also accused the Mahayuti government of having inconsistent political priorities. Bureaucratic delays and shifting priorities under successive BJP-led administrations have deepened the water crisis instead of resolving it, Ramesh said. Marathwada's water woes remain a glaring example of BJP's and Mahayuti's inadequate planning and failure to provide sustainable solutions, he said. The ruling Mahayuti alliance comprises Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprises the Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP). Ramesh's remarks come a day before the voting for Maharashtra Assembly elections. The results will be out on November 23.

Badlapur encounter: Bombay HC raps CID, calls fingerprint aspects 'unusual'
MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Monday came down heavily on Maharashtra CID for its lackadaisical probe into the killing of the Badlapur school sexual assault case accused in an alleged police shootout on September 23. The probe into the case has been taken lightly and there are several lacunae, a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan observed. The court also questioned lack of gunshot residue on the deceased Akshay Shinde's hands as well as no fingerprints on the bottle of water given to him and called these unusual. It pulled up the CID for delaying in collecting material that is to be submitted to the magistrate that is conducting an inquiry into the case. Under law, a magisterial inquiry is mandatory into cases of custodial deaths. Our endeavour is to find out the truth. Our endeavour is to see that every material is collected and placed before the magistrate and the probe is moving correctly. We want a fair probe, the bench said. Badlapur encounter: HC rejects cops' retaliatory fire claim, says 'weak man cant quickly unlock pistol' The court has to see to it that the investigation is carried out properly and if it is not done so then the question of why it was not done arises, the HC further said. The court noted that if all material is not placed before the magistrate then the report would not be submitted in time. Why are you (CID) delaying the process by not providing details to the magistrate? You are still recording statements. We want all information to be given to magistrate as per law. The report was to come today and police is still recording statements, the HC said. See the manner in which the probe has been taken lightly. The magistrate is only going to see if the death was a custodial death or not. If the police does not even submit the proper material then how will the magistrate do its job, the court said. The bench asked advocate general Birendra Saraf, appearing for the state CID, how long and how far he will go to justify the lacunae in the investigation. No expert is required to see and say the manner in which the probe is being carried out, the HC said. The court directed the CID to ensure the probe in the case is completed in two weeks and all relevant material is submitted to the magistrate. The court posted the matter for further hearing on December 2. As per police, on September 23, Shinde snatched the gun of a police personnel while being taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur as part of a probe into another case filed against him. He fired three rounds and was grievously injured in retaliatory firing and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. The incident took place at Mumbra Bypass in Thane district. As per police, at the time of the incident, Shinde's handcuffs were removed as he had asked for water, which was given to him in a bottle inside the van. The court on Monday, after perusing the forensic reports, said it was unusual that no gunshot residue was found on the deceased's hands and no fingerprints were found on the water bottles. This is something unusual. The residue remains on a person's hand for three to four days. Was proper effort taken to procure the sample, the court asked. Not a single fingerprint was found on any of the 12 bottles. How to believe this, the court said. Shinde's father Anna Shinde had filed a petition in HC claiming his son was murdered in a fake encounter. Last month, the HC directed the CID , which was assigned the probe by the state government, to submit all forensic reports as well as the medical report of the injured police officer. Shinde, 24, was arrested in August for allegedly sexually assaulting two minor girls at a school in Badlapur at Thane district. If schools are not safe, what does a child do? Elect NDA in Maharashtra to protect Dharma: Dy CM Pawan Kalyan
VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan underscored the need for electing an NDA government in Maharashtra to safeguard Sanatan Dharma from divisive forces. He highlighted Maharashtras rich heritage, where many stalwarts have strived to protect the sanctity of Sanatana Dharma. The actor-turned-politician urged the people of Maharashtra to draw inspiration from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and protect Sanatana Dharma, which, he stated, could only be achieved under the leadership of the NDA. Over the last 10 years, the NDA has made India shine on the global stage. It is time to fight for the protection of Sanatana Dharma, the Marathi language, and the States culture, he said. Addressing a public meeting in Degloor Assembly constituency on Saturday as part of his campaign for the NDA in the Assembly elections, Pawan Kalyan received a traditional welcome from the family of NDA candidate Jitish Rao Saheb Antapurkar upon his arrival in Degloor. Pawan Kalyan asserted that Indias emergence as the third-largest economy in the world was possible only under the NDA regime. He also praised the Nagpur-to-Thane Samruddhi Mahamarg project, which, he said, has contributed significantly to Maharashtras overall development. I hold the highest regard for the land of the Marathas, which exemplifies the true meaning of Swaraj. This is the land of great leaders like Dr BR Ambedkar, he remarked. Pawan Kalyan lauded Balasaheb Thackerays dedication to protecting Sanatan Dharma. One of the seven tenets of Jana Sena nationalism combined with regionalism is inspired by Thackerays ideals, he said. He also emphasised that Thackerays spirit is reflected in the numerous policies implemented by the NDA. Listing the NDAs achievements, the actor-turned-politician highlighted the vision of making Maharashtra a strong economic powerhouse by 2028 and its crucial role in Indias journey to becoming a global superpower with a `5 trillion GDP. He appealed to the people of Degloor to elect Jitish Rao Saheb with a record majority, citing development initiatives like the Har Ghar Jal Yojana. Lambasting the Congress, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed that Sanatana Dharma and its followers faced a security crisis under its rule, pointing to incidents like the Palghar sadhu killings. The Congress government, in its bid to appease certain sections, failed to act against those responsible. Such governments are not what we need. We need a government that embodies the spirit of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he said, labelling Congress leaders as divisive forces. Pawan Kalyans slogans of Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji, Jai Maharashtra and his speech, interspersed with Marathi, Hindi, and Telugu, resonated well with the crowd. Later, he addressed election rallies at Bhokar in Nanded district.
Pawan campaigns for NDA in Maharashtra, recalls Shivaji
Vijayawada: Jana Sena president and AP Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan campaigned for the NDA alliance at Degloor in the poll-bound Maharashtra state on Saturday. We are undertaking significant development programmes to transform Maharashtra into a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2028, he told the gathering. He underlined that Maharashtra will play a vital role in making India a three-trillion-dollar GDP nation. Pawan Kalyan will be campaigning in several Telugu-dominating places, as part of which he addressed a public meeting at Degloor. The Deputy CM said, I came to honour the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji, who taught us the meaning of fighting for our rights. I express my respect for the soil that imparted the concept of self-rule. I am here to pay tribute to the great land that became the Karmabhumi of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. In line with the values taught by Rani Mata Jijabai, I stand before you today. Pawan Kalyan sought support of people for NDA candidates contesting from Nanded Lok Sabha and Degloor assembly constituencies. He mentioned development programmes taken up by the NDA government in the last 10 years, like construction of 11,000 kilometres of roads, including the crucial 701-kilometre Samruddhi Mahamarg from Nagpur to Thane by India's Highway Man Nitin Gadkari. The Deputy Chief Minister, a popular actor, said fighting in movies is easy, but standing up for dharma in real life is difficult. The eternal dharma is strong; we must unite to protect Marathi language and culture, he stated Pawan Kalyan declared that the fortresses fought for by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stand guard over southern India, keeping invaders at bay and preventing the destruction of temples. I urge you to give solid support to the NDA alliance, he added.

Effective HIV Prevention Methods Everyone Should Know
By Dr Monalisa Sahu, Consultant Infectious Diseases, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) affects millions worldwide, yet with the advancements in science, there are now effective methods to prevent its spread. Prevention is critical to control and ultimately eliminate HIV, and understanding these methods is essential for everyone. Key HIV prevention strategies that can empower individuals and communities to reduce their risk: 1. Condom Use How Condoms Work: Condoms act as a physical barrier that prevents the exchange of bodily fluids, such as semen and vaginal fluids, which can carry HIV. They are highly effective when used consistently and correctly during every sexual encounter. Types of Condoms: Latex condoms are the most common, but non-latex options, such as polyurethane, are available for those with latex allergies. Importance of Correct Use: Knowing how to put on a condom properly and ensuring it is used from start to finish during intercourse can maximize its effectiveness in preventing HIV. 2. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) What is PrEP: PrEP is a daily medication that people who are at high risk for HIV can take to reduce their chances of contracting the virus. When taken consistently, PrEP has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection from sexual contact by over 90% and from injection drug use by over 70%. Who Should Consider PrEP: PrEP is highly recommended for those in high-risk groups, such as individuals with HIV-positive partners, those who have multiple sexual partners, or people who use injectable drugs. Access and Adherence: Access to PrEP varies by location, but it is increasingly available through healthcare providers and community health centers. Adherence to daily intake is critical for PrEPs effectiveness. 3. Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) How PEP Works: PEP is a short-term treatment that can prevent HIV infection after potential exposure. It involves taking antiretroviral medications for 28 days and must be started within 72 hours of exposure to be effective. When to Use PEP: PEP is intended for emergency situations, such as after unprotected sex with a partner of unknown HIV status or after a possible exposure through needle-sharing. Access to PEP: PEP is available in emergency rooms, clinics, and some pharmacies, though availability varies by location. Access to PEP and quick action can make a significant difference in preventing HIV. 4. Regular Testing and Treatment for HIV The Importance of Testing: Knowing ones HIV status is essential for both prevention and treatment. Regular testing allows individuals to seek early treatment if positive, which reduces the viral load and the risk of transmission to others. Treatment as Prevention (TasP): People living with HIV who take antiretroviral therapy (ART) as prescribed can achieve an undetectable viral load, meaning the virus cannot be transmitted to sexual partners. This concept, known as undetectable = untransmittable (U=U), highlights the preventive benefits of treatment. Access to Testing: Many clinics, community health centers, and even home test kits offer accessible HIV testing options. Regular testing is encouraged, especially for those at higher risk. 5. Harm Reduction for Injection Drug Users Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs): These programs provide clean needles and syringes to individuals who inject drugs, reducing the risk of HIV transmission through shared or contaminated equipment. Supervised Injection Sites: In some countries, supervised injection sites provide a safe space for injection drug users, with access to clean supplies and medical staff, further reducing the risk of HIV and other infections. Education on Safe Practices: Harm reduction also includes education on safer injection practices, which is crucial for preventing HIV and Hepatitis C transmission. 6. Education and Awareness Understanding HIV and How it Spreads: Comprehensive education is one of the most effective tools for HIV prevention. Understanding how HIV spreads, risk factors, and prevention methods can empower people to make informed decisions. Community Outreach and Advocacy: Educational programs, especially in communities with high HIV prevalence, can raise awareness, dispel myths, and encourage safe practices. Empowering Youth and Vulnerable Populations: Young people and vulnerable populations, such as the LGBTQ+ community, often benefit from targeted educational campaigns that address unique risks and preventive measures. HIV prevention requires a multifaceted approach involving individuals, communities, and healthcare providers. By embracing these prevention methods, from consistent condom use and PrEP to regular testing and harm reduction, we can collectively work toward reducing HIV transmission rates and improving public health. Awareness, education, and accessibility are vital, ensuring everyone has the knowledge and tools they need to prevent HIV.
Mumbai:The political landscape in the Magathane Vidhan Sabha constituency is heating up as three prominent candidates Prakash Surve, Udesh Patkar, and Nayan Kadam gear up for a fierce electoral battle. This year's Assembly elections are shaping up to be a pivotal moment in Magathane, a constituency traditionally dominated by the Shiv Sena but now witnessing a significant shift in political dynamics. Impact of the Shiv Sena Split on Magathane The split in the Shiv Sena has led to a major shake-up in Magathane. Prakash Surve, a two-term MLA who switched allegiance to the Eknath Shinde faction, faces an uncertain electorate. Having secured victories in both the 2014 and 2019 elections, Surve's political career was bolstered by a loyal Marathi voter base. However, with the Shiv Sena now divided, the vote bank is expected to fragment between the Shinde-led faction and the original Shiv Sena under Uddhav Thackerays leadership. Surve, representing the Mahayuti alliance, faces tough competition from Udesh Patkar, a candidate backed by the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, and Nayan Kadam from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), both vying to attract disillusioned Shiv Sena supporters. The electorate's decision will likely hinge on how this split impacts the constituency's traditional voters. Gujarati Voter Influence and MNS's Growing Strength While Marathi voters have historically dominated the Magathane constituency, the sizeable Gujarati community holds considerable sway over the election outcome. Prakash Surve, as the Mahayuti candidate, is expected to benefit from a significant share of Gujarati votes, which could play a decisive role in the final tally. However, the enduring presence of the MNS, particularly after Nayan Kadam's strong showing in 2019 with 49,146 votes, cannot be ignored. Kadams candidacy signals the MNSs continued influence in the region, with a possibility of attracting voters dissatisfied with both factions of the Shiv Sena. A High-Stakes Three-Way Battle The Magathane constituency is set for a classic three-way showdown, with each candidate bringing a unique appeal to the electorate. Prakash Surves experience as a two-term MLA and his alignment with the Shinde group positions him as a strong contender. Udesh Patkar, the Thackeray factions representative, seeks to restore the traditional Shiv Sena values in a constituency long associated with the party. Meanwhile, Nayan Kadam of the MNS aims to capitalize on his party's past success in Magathane, posing a credible threat to the other candidates. As polling day comes on November 23, the outcome of this tightly contested race remains uncertain. Will Prakash Surve retain his hold on Magathane, or will a fresh face from the Thackeray faction or MNS emerge victorious? The stakes are high, and all eyes are on this crucial constituency as voters prepare to decide its political future. After shooting Siddique, Gautam reportedly changed his appearance and mingled with the crowd, staying on the scene to observe the ensuing chaos and deflect suspicion. To escape, Gautam took an auto-rickshaw to Kurla station, then traveled by local train to Thane. From there, he boarded a train to Pune and discarded his mobile phone along the way to avoid detection. This strategic disposal of evidence was part of his attempt to evade police tracing, according to the report.

Maharashtra polls: Friendly face-offs between allies in 29 out of 288 assembly seats
Mumbai: The November 20 Maharashtra election will witness friendly contests among the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies in 29 out of 288 assembly seats. Friendly fights, however, are more complicated for the MVA, especially since smaller parties who are part of the INDIA bloc are also in the mix. The ruling Mahayuti's partners BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress, will contest alongside each other in six seats Mankhurd Shivajinagar (Mumbai), Ashti (Beed), Sindhkhed Raja (Buldhana), Katol (Nagpur), Morshi (Amravati), Dindori (Nashik), Shrirampur (Ahmednagar) and Purandar (Pune). The opposition alliance of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) and Congress will engage in such face-offs in 21 assembly constituencies. One of the major fights will take place in the Nanded North seat, where Congress's Abdul Gaffoor is in the fray with Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sangita Patil. In most constituencies, MVA allies are contesting alongside candidates fielded by the Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWPI), Samajwadi Party and the Left. The Samajwadi Party has fielded eight candidates and will be contesting alongside the Congress on six seats, namely Bhiwandi West (Thane), Tuljapur (Dharashiv), Aurangabad East (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Malegaon Central (Nashik) and with NCP SP in Paranda (Dharashiv), and Shiv Sena UBT in Dhule City assembly seats. The PWPI has fielded candidates on 14 seats and is in contest with the Shiv Sena (UBT) in Sangole, Loha, Pen, Uran, Ausa, Malegaon Outer and Panvel, and with NCP (SP) in Katol. A PWPI leader said they had sought six seats where they are in serious contest. However, the bigger parties fielded candidates despite our strong presence in these constituencies, he said. The leader said the party had to field candidates wherever it has influence, as it needed to fulfil the electoral criteria of getting the desired number of votes. Asked about the possibility of eating into the alliance's votes, he said, It will happen. But what can we do? We sought seats from bigger parties, but they remained adamant. In an interview earlier this year, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi said the Maha Vikas Aghadi should have fought the polls as a united front, but it had not even called his party for talks. He said, They (MVA) think they can win the polls on their strength, and there is no need for us (SP). Solapur City Central will see a contest between the CPM's Narsaya Adam and the Congress, while in the Wani constituency, CPI's Hepat and Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sanjay Derkar are in the fray. In Mahayuti, the Shiv Sena and the NCP are in a friendly contest in Purandar, Dindori, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, Sindkhedraja and Shrirampur. The NCP and BJP will battle it in Katol, Morshi and Ashti.
