Shifting cultivators, rubber tappers more susceptible to malaria: Tripura Health Secretary

Shifting cultivators, rubber tappers more susceptible to malaria: Tripura Health Secretary Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte said that the state health department has launched a comprehensive drive to eradicate malaria by 2027. As a part of the drive, the state government has undertaken multi-pronged initiatives that include the testing, treatment, and distribution of preventive medicines and protective gear. Speaking to reporters on Saturday on the sidelines of a visit to Subalsingh, a nondescript village under West Tripura district, the top official said that the state government had identified 126 villages comprising 700 localities that are considered to be endemic zones for malaria. There are as many as 126 villages, which consist of 700 paras (localities). The total population living here is around 3.5 lakh people. This target population will be tested, for sure. Apart from that, 9.5 lakh treated mosquito nets are going to be distributed this season, he added. According to him, rubber tappers and the Jhumia population of the state are more prone to the vector-borne disease. We have seen that water gets accumulated in the bowls installed in rubber plants for collection latex where the parasites carrying mosquitoes breed. This is how rubber tappers fall prey to the disease. The Jhumia population, which earns their livelihood through shifting cultivation, is also found to be prone to this disease. We are taking special care of people belonging to these two categories through the distribution of preventive medicines, he added. For household testing, ASHA and Anganwadi workers have been imparted special training. The ASHA workers have been imparted training to carry out doorstep testing, said Gitte. According to health officials, in the last few years, the cases of malaria have been in gradual decline. Last year, deaths due to the dreaded disease were in the single digits. (ANI)

NIA Charges Two Bangladeshi Nationals for Human Trafficking in India

NIA Charges Two Bangladeshi Nationals for Human Trafficking in India The NIA on Saturday charge-sheeted two Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly crossing into India illegally 10 years ago and pushing people from their country into forced labour through an organised racket. The probe of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the case has revealed that the accused -- Muhammed Sahajalal Haldar and Muhammed Idris alias Erdish Khan -- had crossed into India through Benapole on the India-Bangladesh border and had initially worked as waste segregators, according to a statement. Benapole is a town in Bangladesh's Jessore district. Later, they first rented land at Seegehalli and then at Margondanahalli in Karnataka, and started their own waste segregation units by constructing godowns and temporary sheds, the NIA said in its statement. They used to employ trafficked Bangladeshi nationals and force them into hard labour on meagre wages under the threat of arrest by the Indian police, it said. As part of an elaborate human trafficking network, Bangladeshi nationals were brought to India through the India-Bangladesh border on the pretext of secure jobs with valid Indian identity documents, according to the findings of the probe. ''Further strengthening its case against the human trafficking network, the NIA on Saturday charge-sheeted two men for illegally crossing into India 10 years ago and pushing Bangladeshi nationals into forced labour,'' the statement said. The charge-sheet was filed in a special NIA court in Bengaluru against Haldar and Khan, who were arrested in February with the help of the Internal Security Division of Karnataka, after being on the run for months, it said. The NIA had registered a case in this regard on November 7 last year after receiving credible inputs about certain Karnataka-based entities working with facilitators and traffickers in Assam and Tripura in India and Bangladesh to establish a transnational human trafficking network. Nationwide searches by the NIA had led to the arrest of several accused in the case and the agency had earlier charge-sheeted 12 Bangladeshi nationals. ''Further investigations are continuing to track other suspected traffickers, including 'dalals' and touts involved in the racket,'' the agency said.

All-India Kisan Sabha, Tripura welcomes bail given to NewsClick editor by Supreme Court

All-India Kisan Sabha, Tripura welcomes bail given to NewsClick editor by Supreme Court The All-India Kishan Sabha (AIKS), Tripura State Committee, welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to grant bail to News Click editor Prabir Purkayastha on Wednesday. Purkayastha had been detained since October 2023 amid allegations of receiving foreign funding for the news portal, an accusation that led to his arrest under the UAPA law. Pabitra Kar, the state secretary of AIKS Tripura, hailed the apex court's judgement, criticising the basis for Purkayastha's prolonged detention. The editor was targeted and arrested solely because of his support for the historic farmers' movement and his critical stance against the Modi government, Kar stated during a press meet at the AIKS Agartala office. Kar highlighted that despite the serious accusations of receiving funding first from Khalistani sources and later from Chinese entities, the police failed to present any substantial evidence supporting these claims, raising questions about the motives behind the arrest. What is the meaning of being detained for so long if there is no proof? Kar asked. The AIKS leader did not hold back in accusing the BJP of using state machinery to suppress dissenting voices, particularly those not aligning with RSS ideologies. The pattern of arresting prominent figures like Arvind Kejriwal, Navalkar, and Hemant Soren showcases a troubling trend of politically motivated arrests, he added. The AIKS has consistently supported Purkayastha, stating at the time of his arrest that it was both unjust and illegal. The organisation vows to continue its struggle against what it perceives as illegal arrests and actions by the police that go against public interest. Today's development has been a significant relief for Purkayastha's supporters and a noteworthy event for those monitoring the intersections of press freedom, government accountability, and the right to dissent in India. Assam score big win over Tripura in Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's NFC

Assam score big win over Tripura in Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's NFC Assam moved to the top of Group G in the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men's National Football Championship, defeating Tripura, while Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh played out a goalless draw at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground. After the win on Monday, Assam has now garnered four points from two matches, and is at the top of Group G, followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, who are on two points apiece. Tripura trails the pack with a solitary point to their name, as per a press release from the All India Football Federation (AIFF). *Assam demolish Tripura Assam 6 (Pintu Handique 34', 59', Nicodim Narjary 42', 45', Gwgwmsar Gayary 57', 86')beatTripura 0 Assam completed a 6-0 rout of Tripura as they moved to the top of Group G. The score was 3-0 in Assam's favour at half-time. Pintu Handique (34', 59'), Nicodim Narjary (42', 45'), and Gwgwmsar Gayary (57', 86') scored a brace each. It took Assam a little over half an hour to get going, when Narjary played a deft low cross to Handique, who slotted it in from close range. Narjary scored two in quick succession close to the half-time break. He had Ray Rajkumar to thank for both his goals, as the latter's pin-point crosses from the left flank handed the opportunities to Narjary, who, with two strikes, put his side 3-0 up at half-time. Tripura's miseries were doubled after the change of ends. Gayary and Handique scored two more, close to the hour mark, before the former put the final nail in the coffin with four minutes of regulation time left. A cross from the left by Ray Rajkumar caused some confusion inside the Tripura box, as Narjary ran onto the ball and scored. *Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh play out stalemate Arunachal Pradesh 0 drew with Madhya Pradesh 0 Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh played out a goalless draw in a match that saw two contrasting halves. Madhya Pradesh had more impetus in the first half, as they looked to make inroads near the Arunachal penalty area. Naganba Waikhom had a good effort early on in the second minute from a free-kick that was approximately 30 yards out. While the Madhya Pradesh defender belted his effort, Arunachal keeper Anant Shah collected it without much fuss. Shijagurumayum Jackson perhaps had the best chance of the match for Madhya Pradesh in the 24th minute, when he ran onto a low cross inside the six-yard box, but ended up skying it. Arunachal Pradesh changed their tempo in the second half, mounting incessant attacks on the opposition goal. Their perseverance almost paid off in injury time, when Tobom Langkam's free-kick from a potentially dangerous position was blocked. (ANI)

Tripura brick kiln workers stage protest over unpaid wages, poor working conditions

Tripura brick kiln workers stage protest over unpaid wages, poor working conditions Hundreds of brick kiln workers gathered for a protest outside the office of the Labour Commissioner in Agartala on Monday, voicing their grievances against the alleged negligence of kiln owners and the state government in ensuring fair wages and basic amenities. The demonstration, organised by the Tripura Brick Kiln Union, lasted for over two hours, with participants demanding immediate action to address their plight. The protestors, including many migrant workers from various divisions across the state, expressed severe discontent with the ongoing issues related to wage non-payment and lack of essential services such as food, drinking water, and medical care at the workplace. Thousands of workers, including children and women, are suffering immensely. Some have not been paid for up to one and a half months, stated Tapan Das, State General Secretary of the Tripura Brick Kiln Workers Union. The union has put forth several demands, including the provision of food, fuel, drinking water, and medical supplies during work hours, accurate accounting of labour hours in the presence of labour officials, and the covering of all transportation and sustenance expenses for workers returning to their home states. Leaders from various labour organisations, including CITU State General Secretary Shankar Dao, joined the protest. Dao criticised the current state government for its failure to protect the labourers' rights, contrasting it with the previous administration's policies. Under the Left Front government, the workers' welfare was prioritised, and the brick kiln industry flourished. Now, due to the neglect of the current government, many kilns have shut down, leaving thousands jobless, he remarked. The protest concluded with a delegation of union leaders submitting a memorandum to the Additional Labour Commissioner, demanding urgent intervention to resolve the issues faced by the workers. The union warned of a larger state-wide movement if their demands are not met promptly. The state government and labour department have yet to respond to the allegations and demands raised by the brick kiln workers. (ANI)

Tripura: Anant Ambani's Vantara leads timely rescue of ailing elephants in Unakoti In a display of compassion and swift action, Anant Ambani's Vantara organization orchestrated a remarkable rescue mission, spanning thousands of kilometres, to aid an ailing elephant and her calf in Tripura's Unakoti district. The rescue effort, captured in an online video that has since gone viral, showcased the dedication of Vantara's team and the impact of collaborative action in wildlife conservation. Upon receiving the distress call, Vantara mobilized a convoy of vehicles, including ambulances and feed trucks, alongside a team of skilled personnel, to provide essential care for the elephants named Pratima and her calf, Maniklal. Despite the daunting distance of 3,500 kilometres from Jamnagar to Tripura, the convoy accomplished the journey in a mere 24 hours, demonstrating unparalleled efficiency and commitment to the cause. The rescue operation revealed the dire condition of Pratima, with extensive wounds, lacerations, and severe stiffness in her limbs. Additionally, she exhibited signs of blindness in one eye, while her calf suffered from malnutrition. Subsequent veterinary care provided by Vantara's dedicated team ensured the elephants received the necessary treatment and rehabilitation. However, the rescue also shed light on a concerning aspect, as highlighted by PETA in a released statement. Pratima and her calf were unlawfully held without an ownership certificate, in violation of wildlife protection laws, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement and oversight in safeguarding vulnerable species. The successful rescue and rehabilitation of Pratima and Maniklal exemplify the positive impact of collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation and serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting our natural heritage. Odisha enters the ballot phase on May 13 in high stake southern belt

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha is all set to enter the poll arena with voting for four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly constituencies to go underway in the high stake battlefield across the southern districts on Monday. Around 62.87 lakh voters, including 30.97 lakh male and 31.89 lakh female, will exercise their franchise at 7,303 booths in the first of the four phase elections in the state. Of them around 1.75 lakh are first timers. As many as 37 candidates are in fray from Koraput, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Kalahandi Lok Sabha seats while 243 candidates are in the race from the 28 Assembly segments. The contest will be keen with both the ruling BJD and main rival BJP leaving no stone unturned to capture the seats while the Congress too is no pushover in this belt of the state. All eyes will be on the Berhampur Lok Sabha seat where BJP candidate Pradeep Panigrahy is locked in an intense fight with Bhrugu Baxipatra of the BJD. The seat has assumed importance as Panigrahy was once a close aide of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik till he was convicted and jailed in a job scam. After his release from jail, he turned a bitter critic of the chief minister and joined BJP which has fielded him from the seat. The BJD candidate Baxipatra was the state BJP vice-president and a major contender for the party ticket. With the party preferring to field Panigrahy instead, he joined BJD to be fielded by the ruling party from the seat. The BJP had virtually pressed its entire top leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and national president JP Nadda, Defence minister Rajnath Singh and chief ministers of Assam, Tripura and Chhattisgarh Himanta Biswa Sarma, Biplab Deb and Vishnu Deo Sai respectively to campaign in the first phase polls. While the prime minister addressed huge public meetings at Berhampur and Nabarangpur on May 6, other leaders held separate public meetings in the area. Berhampur is in Ganjam, the home district of chief minister Naveen Patnaik and a defeat at the hands of the BJP will be a huge setback for the ruling party. The BJD campaign was led by Naveen and party leader VK Pandian. While the chief minister has already visited the area twice, Pandian has covered all the Assembly constituencies going to polls in the first phase polls. Besides BJD and BJP, the Congress is also in the fight in this phase as its only sitting MP from the state Saptagiri Ulaka from Koraput is locked in a triangular fight against Kaushalya Hikaka of the BJD and Kaliram Majhi of the BJP. However, Congress campaign in this round has suffered as no national leaders visited these constituencies. Besides Berhampur and Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi constituencies will also go to polls in this phase. BJP has fielded Malvika Deo, wife of Arka Keshari Deo, a former MP and erstwhile scion of Kalahandi royal family, while the BJD nominated Lambodar Nial, who had lost elections twice consecutively in 2014 and 2019 from Khariar Assembly segment. Congress has fielded Draupadi Majhi, a former municipality chairperson from the seat. The BJP had won the seat in 2019. The Nabarangpur LS seat is expected witness a triangular fight between former MP Pradeep Majhi of BJD, former MP Balabhadra Majhi from BJP and former MLA Bhujabal Majhi of Congress. The seat has been won by the BJD for the last two elections. Among the heavyweights in the fray for the Assembly in this round are president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Sarat Pattanayak from Nuapada who is pitted against Planning and Convergence minister Rajendra Dholakia. Former leader of the Opposition Pradipta Nayak has entered the fray from Bhawanipatna seat while chairman of the Congress campaign committee Bhakta Charan Das is contesting from Narla in Kalahandi district. Former minister Dibyashankar Mishra is in the fray from Junagarh while senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati is testing his luck from Jeypore seat. Biplab Patro, the son of former Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro, is also fighting from Digapahandi seat against Odia cine star and former Berampur MP Sidhant Mohapatra of BJP. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for smooth and peaceful conduct of polling. With six districts including Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi and Nuapada having Left wing extremism history, the Election Commission has declared 17 per cent booths as critical. It has also made elaborated security arrangements deploying 104 CAPF companies in strategic locations to maintain law and order and ensure smooth voting. There will be webcasting in 60 per cent of the booths, chief electoral officer, Odisha, Nikunja Bihari Dhal said. While normal voting time is from 7 am to 6 pm, the duration has been reduced by two hours to 4 pm for multiple booths in Nuapada, Khariar, Lanjigarh, Narla, Umerkote, Jharigam, Nabarangpur and Dabugam Assembly constituencies due to their sensitive nature. The timing has also been kept from 7 am to 5 pm in some booths in Nuapada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati and Nuadapa districts. Dhal said provision of air ambulance has also been made at Koraput for any emergency situation.

Tripura forest officials launch drive to radio collar wild elephant, 'Moti'

Tripura forest officials launch drive to radio collar wild elephant, 'Moti' The Forest department of Tripura in collaboration with ANCF (Asian Nature Conservation Foundation) launched a special operation to radio-collar one elephant, that has been entering human settlements and destroying paddy fields and small huts in the hilly parts of Khowai district. The drive to radio collar the wild elephant who has been given the name of 'Moti' by locals began on Sunday. 'Moti' roams in the forest alone and had recently destroyed paddy fields and small huts in human settlements close to forest areas, forest official said. Locals have been urging officials to look into the issue where wild elephants enter human settlements quite frequently, a senior forest official told ANI. District Forest Officer Akshay Bhodre said, The operation was launched on Sunday and will continue until the troublemaker elephant can be radio collared. Radio collaring helps us keep track of the movement of the elephant in the forest areas. If we get his movement inputs we can accordingly plan and deploy our forest guards and volunteers to keep him at bay from the human settlements. The district official said that already one elephant had been radio collared enabling them to track the movement of the wild elephant herd moving inside forest areas. To assist forest department of Tripura, Padma Shri awardee veterinarian KK Sharma, famed as the elephant doctor of Assam has arrived at Tripura and is part of the team which is supervising the whole operation. Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of his visit to the forest areas, the elephant doctor said, Elephants are the protectors of the forest. Earlier there used to be a lot of elephants in the jungle but now there are only a small group of 16 female elephants and Moti. Encroachment in the reserve forest areas is the reason behind such conflicts. Stating that in absence of elephants the whole forest would turn into a barren land, Sharma said, The elephants must stay in the forest areas but we also have to look after the people living around the forest. Last year we installed a radio collar on one elephant which provides us with the real time location of that elephant. Moti is a loner so we are trying to radio collar him now. (ANI)

Telangana: Leaders find own ways to relax on eve of polls

With the all-consuming and stressful campaigning done and dusted, the top leaders of political parties tried to find their ideal stress-busters on the eve of Lok Sabha elections in the state on Sunday. While some, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, indulged in sporting and leisure activities, others like state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy relaxed by visiting places of worship. Revanth, who is also the president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), took time off to play football with students at the University of Hyderabad. To everybodys surprise, Revanth looked relaxed even after leading 58 election campaign meetings across Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka in the last few days. It was a delightful sight for many as the chief minister took to the football field for close to two hours under the scorching sun, making right moves like a professional player. Donning jersey No 9 bearing his name, Revanth was seen running and dribbling the ball to the best of his ability before passing it to students and his party colleagues, like a perfect team player, during the match. The match was organised by the Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) and students of the university. That the team represented by the CM emerged victorious came as an icing on the cake for both the organisers and Revanths colleagues. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi plays gully cricket with youngsters near his residence in Shastripuram Later taking to X, Revanth said, Until yesterday, the campaign for the parliament election was head-on. While getting ready for public service again from tomorrow... played football with young players at the Central University ground. Willow wielder AIMIM chief Owaisi, meanwhile, found time to play his favourite sport of cricket with people, mostly children, on the road near his residence in Shastripuram. He was passing through the area when he saw children playing gully cricket. So he joined them and had some fun, a party colleague told TNIE. While Owaisi was wielding the willow, delighted children, some of them posing as fielders standing close to their famous visiting batter, recorded the moment on their phones. It may be mentioned here that during his student days at the Nizam College, Owaisi represented Osmania University in the Vizzy Trophy inter-university (U-25) team as a fast bowler in 1994. He was also selected for the south zone university team. BJP state president G Kishan Reddy offers prayers at the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad on Sunday Temple visits Meanwhile, a relaxed Kishan Reddy visited as many as five temples, starting with Sri Sringeri Shankarmath in the city on the occasion of Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti. Telangana Leaders' Pre-Election Leisure: Football, Cricket, and Temple Visits

Hyderabad: As the final countdown for the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana on May 13 begins, political leaders are taking a well-deserved break from the hectic campaign trail, opting for a more relaxed and leisurely approach. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, known for his passion for football, recently indulged in a friendly match at the University of Hyderabad on Sunday. Sporting an 'I.N.D.I.A.' jersey with his name emblazoned on the back, Reddy joined students and Congress workers for an exhilarating game that lasted over an hour. He played barefoot at times, alongside the students and later leading a team against a side led by NSUI state president Venkat Balmoori who called it a refreshing change from the rigors of the campaign trail. Aiming to increase voter turnout by 3 per cent in Andhra Pradesh, says CEO

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO)Mukesh Kumar Meenasays that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is striving towards increasing the voter turnout in the State to around 82% against the 79% in the 2019 elections. He said the polling will be conducted between 7 am to 6 pm in 169 Assembly constituencies. In three of the remaining six segments, the voting process will begin at 7 am and end at 4 pm and the other three will begin at 7 am and end at 5 pm. What arrangements have been made for the polling on May 13? As of now, all the logistical activities such as printing of ballot papers, commissioning of EVMs have been completed. Voters list is ready and also shared with the candidates. Similarly, training for the polling staff, casting of postal ballots, and home voting was also completed. Separate dispatching centres have been set up for each Assembly constituency at the district headquarters, where the polling staff and security personnel will arrive on May 12 and dispatched to their stations by the evening on the same day, along with election material. In case of big districts like Alluri Sitharama Raju, dispatching centres have been set up at Paderu and Rampachodavaram to avoid long journeys for polling personnel. How are the polling stations equipped to conduct the elections smoothly? The number of polling stations was increased to 46,389 from 46,165. We have created 224 auxiliary polling stations at the main polling stations, where the upper limit of electors has exceeded 1,500. Apart from all basic infrastructure facilities such as drinking water and ramps, we are also setting up shades at the polling stations in view of prevailing summer conditions in the State. An ANM (Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife), along with medicines, will also be kept available at polling stations across the State. During the elections in 2019, voters were seen standing in queue lines till the night. Are you anticipating a similar situation in this election as well? As the weather is much harsher now, voters may turn less at polling stations between 12 pm and 4 pm. They may opt to arrive in the evening to escape the scorching heat to vote. We have already given instructions to the district election officers to make arrangements accordingly. There are around 3,000 to 4,000 polling stations where there are over 1,200 voters. In all such stations, we will utilise the reserve staff to expedite the polling process. As we cannot rule out the possibility of untoward incidents at the end of the polling, web cameras have been installed to keep a close watch and take necessary measures at the respective polling booths. Several officers including the Director General of Police (DGP) have been transferred and were out of election duties. What about the politicians crossing the norms prescribed by the ECI? More than 400 politicians including Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives were booked for violation of MCC. With regard to the Chief Minister YS Jagan and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, we have issued notices for the objectionable speeches during the electioneering. As the ECI specifically asked about the two leaders, we have sent the explanations given by them along with our observations. Holding the position of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is a challenging job as you will become a soft target to the political parties even if you go by the rule book. How are you facing it? In fact, every IAS officer is trained on conducting elections right from the beginning of their career. I have been involved in conducting elections in my capacity as Sub-Collector, Joint Collector and Collector. Additionally, I have also discharged duties as observer in four States, including Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura. With all the experience I have gained, I am balancing the things in my capacity as the Chief Election Officer. But one thing is clear, that violations will not be entertained, the action will be to the logical end against the violators. What is the number of new voters? About 10.30 lakh voters are aged between 18 and 19. What are the measures being taken for enhancement of poll percentage? The turnout of voters was around 79% in the 2019 polls. We are making efforts to increase it to 82 to 83% in this election. We are focusing on the segments, where the poll percentage was less to the national average of 68% and identified 20 such constituencies including 19 Assembly constituencies from urban areas and one rural segment - Paderu. We are involving resident welfare associations and conducting voter awareness activities in colleges and universities. Additionally, through SVEEP, the initiative of the ECI, widespread programmes are being carried out to enhance the voter turnout.

Two Fuel-Carrying Trains Arrive in Tripura to Alleviate Fuel Crisis

Two Fuel-Carrying Trains Arrive in Tripura to Alleviate Fuel Crisis Two trains with petrol and diesel headed to Tripura on Saturday amid a fuel crisis due to disruption in railway freight services in Assam's Dima Hasao, an official said. Goods train services have been disrupted on the line since April 26, following the derailment of a freight train in Jatinga area of Dima Hasao. However, passenger train services remained normal. ''Two trains carried petrol and diesel today. Three-four days back, we had sent another freight train with essential commodities like sugar and edible oil,'' North East Frontier Railway spokesperson Sabyasachi De told PTI. One of the trains has 49 wagons and is heading to Dharmanagar in Tripura, he said. The other train has 50 wagons, of which 25 were meant for Dharmanagar and 25 for Silchar in Assam, he added. De said work on the restoration of the tracks was underway. ''We could send the two trains today as there was no rain for the last two-three days. The restoration work depends on how the weather is. We are trying our best,'' he said. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha thanked Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw. ''I express my sincere gratitude to Railway Minister Ashiwani Vaishaw for initiating proper steps to resolve the issue of goods train service. I also thank the NFR authority and workers for their tireless efforts amid the adverse climate,'' he said. The Tripura government started rationing petrol and diesel for two-wheelers, cars and commercial vehicles from April 30. ''The fuel crisis remains. We don't know when the track will be ready for resumption of goods train service fully,'' Director of state Food and Civil Supplies Department Nirmal Adhikari said.
