PM Modi Attacks INDIA Bloc as Scamsters at Election Rallies in Bihar and UP

NEW DELHI: The Opposition INDIA bloc is a congregation of scamsters, which is communal, casteist and dynastic to the core, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at two back-to-back election rallies in Bihars Champaran and Maharajganj. Continuing with his stinging attack on the Opposition alliance later in the day in Uttar Pradeshs Prayagraj and Varanasi, Mr Modi accused the Congress and the Samajwadi Party of pandering to their votebank and being anti-development. Addressing election rallies in Bihar, Mr Modi predicted a big blow for the Opposition alliance on June 4, when Lok Sabha poll results will be out. The Prime Minister, who is seeking a third consecutive term in office, said that he considers the people of the country as his only waaris (successors). Modi has no personal virasat (legacy). For me, you are my successor. I dont have any other successors. So, I have to work very hard to ensure a bright future for you and your children, he said. The Prime Minister charged the RJD-Congress combine, which formerly ruled Bihar, with having brought disrepute to the land that gave the country its first President Rajendra Prasad. Mr Modi pointed out that BIhar, in the 1990s, had become known for rangdaari tax (extortion) and the NDA, which has been in power for nearly two decades, has been working hard to bring to a halt the trend of large-scale migration to other parts of the country because of missing industries and job opportunities in the state. The Prime Minister lambasted the Nehru-Gandhi family, which he referred to as the Congress' royal family, for keeping mum over controversial remarks made by its leaders and allies against people of Bihar in states such as Punjab, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Your vote is not just for electing your local MP but also to make your PM strong, he said, claiming that migrants from Bihar were treated well in Gujarat when he was the chief minister of that state. The Prime Minister also launched indirect attacks on leaders like former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, whom he said were orn with silver spoons. The nation cannot move forward with the sins of the INDIA bloc, which stands for corruption, appeasement politics, represents the 'tukde-tukde' gang and a perverted mindset that heaps scorn on Sanatan Dharma, he said. This is the reason why the INDIA bloc was exhausted in the very first phase of the elections. In the subsequent phases, it was battered. In the remaining two phases, the trend will continue, and on June 4, when votes are counted, the results will come as a big blow to the intentions of the Opposition alliance, he claimed. Targeting the Opposition bloc on the issue of corruption, Mr Modi said that the alliance does not look like a political front. It appears to be a congregation of scamsters who are together responsible for corruption scandals worth `20-lakh crores, he alleged. The Prime Minister claimed that the parties in the Opposition alliance have three common evils. He said: They are all communal, casteist and dynastic to a degree that is severe. Referring to Tejashwi Yadav, whom he did not mention by name, he said, I am told that the 'waaris of jungle raaj' has been saying I will be advised bed rest after the Lok Sabha elections. The 'shehzada' of the Congress says he wants to see me in tears. His party openly chants slogans like 'Modi teri kabr khudegi' (your grave will be dug). These people have a counterpart in Uttar Pradesh (an allusion to Mr Yadav) who says I have reached the end of my life and hence contesting from Varanasi, said Mr Modi, adding that the remarks showed a lack of sensitivity on the part of those orn with silver spoons, who have never known what a life filled with struggles. He also noted that the leaders of the INDIA bloc are furiously hurling abuses and curses at him as June 4 approaches. They cannot accept that Modi is being elected by the people of the country for another five-year term, Mr Modi claimed. In his speech, the Prime Minister also made a reference to the much-talked-about feast Mr Gandhi had enjoyed at former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav's residence last year. Those who refused the invitation to the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya had no problems in sharing a meal with the corrupt, he said. Mr Modi also referred to Champaran as Mahatma Gandhi's karma bhoomi and his own roots in Gujarat, the janmabhoomi (place of birth) of Mahatma Gandhi. Later, addressing a public rally in Uttar Pradeshs Prayagraj, Mr Modi said that the Opposition Congress and the Samajwadi Party have been competing over the appeasement of their votebank. He called both parties anti-development. The SP and the Congress are more concerned about their votebank than Kumbh (mela)...This election will decide the direction in which the Triveni of India's future will flow, Mr Modi said. The Prime Minister said that India is now known worldwide for its expressways and infrastructure and said that members of the INDIA block cannot digest the praise of India abroad. Drawing parallels between the spirit of Prayagraj and the modern Indian ethos, Mr Modi said, The people here do not live under pressure from anyone. Nor do they live in fear of anyone. The vitality I have seen in the people of Prayagraj is rarely found. And this is the temperament of today's India as well. Addressing a women's conference in his Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency late on Tuesday evening, Mr Modi said that women were neglected during the Congress and the Samajwadi Party rule. He also recalled Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav's infamous oys will be boys remark while lauding the Yogi Adityanath government on women's safety in Uttar Pradesh. The INDIA bloc's mentality has always been anti-women. The INDIA bloc opposes women's reservations. Wherever their government comes to power, it becomes difficult for women to live. The people of Banaras are familiar with the jungle raj in UP and Bihar. It was difficult for our sisters and daughters to step out of the house. Daughters had to leave their studies and stay at home due to safety concerns, he said, adding that for the first time, there is a government at the Centre that has cared about the dignity of women and provided them with respect.

INTERVIEW| 'It will be 2004 moment' on June 4; 'hugely impressive' turnaround in UP: Jairam Ramesh

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said a 2004 moment will be witnessed on June 4 with the INDIA bloc getting a clear mandate in the Lok Sabha polls and asserted that a primary factor in the alliance's strong performance would be a hugely impressive turnaround in Uttar Pradesh. In an interview with PTI , Ramesh also used cricketing terminology to claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was nurturing a communal pitch, but his party had refused to play on it and had also successfully navigated his googlies and bouncers. The Congress general secretary exuded confidence that the June 4 results day would be reliving of the 2004 moment when the saffron party was unseated from power despite its 'shining India' campaign. This is a 2004 moment, you will see. People keep asking me who will be the prime minister, I must remind you that the results of the 2004 election came out on May 13, 2004. By May 17, it was clear that Manmohan Singh was going to be the prime minister. This time it may be even quicker, and in any case, elections in India are not a beauty contest, not a 'kaun banega PM', it is about which coalition will get a mandate, Ramesh told PTI. We are a party-centred democracy. We are not like the American system, it is not a beauty contest between individuals, it is a choice between parties. This is a 2004 moment. In 1962, a film was released based on the Sherlock Holmes mystery -- 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' -- 'Bees saal Baad' starring Waheeda Rehman and Biswajeet...what happened in 2004, 'bees saal baad', you will see that repeating, he said. Ramesh also expressed confidence that there would be a dramatic turnaround in Uttar Pradesh. Noting that the road to Delhi is through Lucknow because Uttar Pradesh has 80 seats, Ramesh pointed out that the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra had gotten a tremendous response in places such as Prayagraj, Varanasi, Pratapgarh, Lucknow, Amethi, Rae Bareli, Aligarh, Moradabad, Amroha and Sambhal. In Uttar Pradesh, youth, women, SCs, STs, and OBCs came out in support of the yatra, he said. I think there has been complete disenchantment and disillusionment with the PM because the people are fed up with him. He (Modi) is tired, he is jaded and he is faded. One of the primary contributing factors in our strong performance on June 4, when the results come out, would be a hugely impressive turnaround in UP, Ramesh said. In the 2019 polls, the BJP had won 62 seats, NDA ally Apna Dal got 2 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan (SP, BSP, RLD) had won 15 seats and the Congress got one. PM will never tell you this...: Jairam Ramesh INDIA bloc confident of stopping BJP from getting majority: Kharge 'Hindu-Muslim rhetoric and no Viksit Bharat' Ramesh alleged that Modi had been indulging in polarisation throughout the election and preparing a communal pitch, but the Congress refused to play on that and pursued its 'paach nyay' agenda. Ramesh's attack came over Modi's remarks in an interview with PTI in which he had said that he has never uttered a word against minorities and the BJP has ot just today but never acted against them. I don't want to use the cricketing language too much. There is a pitch which he nurtures every day, and we still have nine days more. The campaigning ends on May 30. What new things he will bring on the communal pitch, only he knows, because he is the 3D masterthe master of distortion, diversion and defamation, Ramesh said. He (PM Modi) is trying to bowl googlies, he is trying to bowl bouncers; he is doing 'bodyline' but we have successfully navigated his googlies and bouncers. We've bowled a few googlies and bouncers back at him, which he has tried to avoid but has not been able to avoid, Ramesh said in a lighter vein. Ramesh claimed that Modi's entire campaign from April 19 has been based on communalisation with Hindu-Muslim rhetoric throughout and o talk of Viksit Bharat, Modi ki guarantee, or issues of the farmers, youth, women, workers, SCs, STs and OBCs. Asked about the remarks, Ramesh told PTI , What nonsense is he talking about? This prime minister is fast losing his memory. He has never had any adherence to the truth. He is 'jhoothjeevi' , but now what he says today, he forgets tomorrow and says he never said it. Of course he has been attacking the Congress party and has been talking of Hindu-Muslim, he said. Ramesh said the PM had raised the issue of the 'Muslim League' imprint on the Congress manifesto, the mangalsutra remarks and the allegation that the Congress will give reservations on the basis of religion, which were all ogus statements. This is the prime minister who, when asked some years ago whether he had any remorse at the killings during the Gujarat riots, said even when a small puppy comes under a car, one feels bad. This is the language that he has used, Ramesh said. Speak on inflation, jobs, not mangalsutra, Priyanka dares Modi Meanwhile, Ramesh said that the combined effort of the 'paanch nyay pachchees guarantee' programme, the campaigning by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who have campaigned so magnificently, that has worked in the party's favour. Ultimately, it is the people who want to vote for us. It is 'people versus Modi', not just the INDIA 'janbandhan' versus Modi; it is the farmers versus Modi, women versus Modi; it is labour versus Modi; it is youth versus Modi; it is the social engeneering, the SCs, STs, and OBCs against Modi, the Congress general secretary said. This is an election when people are rising up very quietly and sending a message to this jaded and faded prime minister. You are the outgoing PM and on June 4, you will be going out, Ramesh said. Elections have been held on 428 seats, but just after two phases, it was clear that the INDIA bloc will get a decisive mandate and the BJP will be 'saaf' in the South and half in the North, West, and East, he said, adding that his assessment is based on the feedback from workers and social organisations. After April 19, PM Modi's language has changed. He did not talk about viksit bharat but started his Hindu-Muslim rhetoric, mangalsutra, religion-based reservations, buffaloes, what all he has not said... he is preparing a communal pitch but we are not leaving our pitch of 'paanch nyay pachchees guarantees', he said. I think the PM is rattled. He used to talk about 400 paar and Modi ki guarantee, but has forgotten about that. He is the outgoing Prime Minister and INDIA bloc will get a clear and decisive mandate on June 4, Ramesh said. After the fifth phase on Monday, voting has been completed in 428 constituencies out of 543 in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Two more phaseson May 25 and June 1are remaining now. The counting of votes is on June 4. Interview | BJP to score big in South, NDA will cross 400, says PM Modi Why is Modi 'silent' on caste census? On Prime Minister Modi's remarks in the interview, asserting that even if one assumes he acts out of self-interest, his own welfare lies in the welfare of the Constitution, Ramesh said that on November 26, 1949, the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly and BR Ambedkar made a speech a day before in which he said that without the Congress, the Constitution would not have been made possible. Four days after the Constitution was adopted, the Organiser, which is an RSS publication, says there is nothing Indian about the Constitution because there are no 'manuvadi values'. Subsequently, MS Golwalkar, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Mohan Bhagwat, Bibek Debroy, so many spokespersons have been attacking this Constitution, saying the time for this Constitution is over, Ramesh alleged. The Congress leader said the Constitution is a flexible document that can be amended, but to do away with the document altogether lock, stock and barrel is another thing. Ramesh claimed that when Atal Bihari Vajapayee became the prime minister, LK Advani and company wanted a committee to review the basic structure of the Constitution. They appointed Justice JMNR Venkatachaliah, a very distinguished former chief justice, to head the panel but he said I am not going to be a party to doing away with the basic structure of this Constitution, he said. Subsequently, the BJP-led dispensation had to change the nature of the committee to one that would review the workings of the Constitution, he said. We (the Congress) of course boycotted that commission. So this has always been the objective of the BJP and the RSS. They are deeply uncomfortable and hostile to the idea of BR Ambedkar's Constitution because one of the pillars of this Constitution is social justice and the road to social justice is through reservation, he said. Ramesh asked why Prime Minister Modi is silent on the issue of the caste census. He also asked the prime minister to clarify his stance as to whether he will remove the 50 percent cap on reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs. Why has the PM not said a word on this? He is going around spreading an epidemic of lies that the Congress is giving reservations based on religion. Where have we given reservations based on religion? The 1994 reservations in Karnataka, which he keeps referring to, were given to minoritiesMuslims, Christians, Jains, and Buddhistsbased on socio-economic criteria, and that is how they were introduced in the reservation law, he said. Subsequently, the PM, in an interview to a TV channel had said he himself given reservation to Muslims by adding them to the OBC list. If the PM does it, it is not a religion-based reservation; if the Congress does it, even though it is based on socio-economic criteria, it is religion-based, Ramesh said. Asked about the prime minister's remark that his Adani-Ambani comments were validated by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's comments, Ramesh said he does not know what the context of Chowdhury's remarks was but Modi should be asked why action has not been taken against the two businessmen. Chaos at Akhilesh Yadav's Rally in Sant Kabir Nagar There was chaos at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's election rally in Sant Kabir Nagar on Monday as a large number of party workers and supporters climbed over barricades to move towards him. This comes a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Yadav abandoned a joint poll meeting in the Phulpur area of Prayagraj without delivering a speech as their supporters broke through barricades trying to reach the dais. On Monday, SP workers in Sant Kabir Nagar broke through the security cordon, reached Yadav's car and clicked pictures with him. Microphones, chairs and coolers set up at the venue were damaged in the process. Yadav managed to reach the stage with help from police personnel. The SP leader was in Sant Kabir Nagar to campaign for INDIA bloc candidate Pappu Nishad. In his address, Yadav said, ''I have heard that people are not going to the rallies of rival parties. They are making policemen sit there in plain clothes.'' ''A lot of injustice has been done to 'Siksha Mitra' (ad-hoc teachers) youths and we will work towards making them permanent teachers,'' he said, claiming that the BJP deliberately leaked question papers of competitive exams so that they don't have to give jobs to youngsters. Yadav also asked people to vote in favour of the INDIA bloc and said that their votes would save the Constitution and democracy.

Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav had to leave...: Congress leader Rewati Raman Singh after public rally in UP's Phulpur turned uncontrollable

Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav had to leave...: Congress leader Rewati Raman Singh after public rally in UP's Phulpur turned uncontrollable Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav had to abruptly exit a public rally in Phulpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday after the crowd became uncontrollable. The leaders, out for the poll campaign ahead of the fifth phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh's Phulpur, had to rush out of the event owing to security reasons due to the large turnout. Congress leader Rewati Raman Singh explained the situation, stating, The crowd had become too large, and there weren't enough police officers, which caused the crowd to become uncontrollable and rush the stage. As a result, Akhilesh Ji and Rahul Ji had to leave without giving their speeches. He attributed the lack of adequate security to the police being engaged in election duties elsewhere. When questioned about the coordination between Congress and Samajwadi Party workers, Singh emphasized the sheer size of the crowd as the primary cause of the chaos. Commenting on the BJP's ambitious target of 400 paar seats, Singh remarked, These rallies show what the people want. These people intend to change the Constitution, and they have already said so, which is why they are shouting '400 Paar'. The people themselves are fighting this election to save the Constitution and to protect reservations. The rally, part of the poll campaign, highlighted the strategic alliance between Congress and the Samajwadi Party. Singh confirmed, This is a strategy because both are in an alliance. The Samajwadi Party and Congress have an alliance. Singh expressed confidence in the INDIA alliance's prospects, predicting a strong performance. The INDIA alliance will form the government. Rahul Gandhi will also win from Raebareli, and there is hope for Congress's victory in Amethi as well. On his son Ujjwal Raman Singh's candidacy for the Prayagraj seat, Singh was optimistic. After 40 years, Congress's withered hand will now be seen blooming. He hinted at a significant change, stating, Whenever Allahabad changes, change happens in Delhi as well. This election is being fought by the people. While Singh avoided making precise predictions about the number of seats the INDIA alliance might secure in Uttar Pradesh, he suggested they could win around 40 seats. Rewati Raman Singh, a seasoned politician, has served as an MLA eight times, an MP of the Lok Sabha twice, and an MP of the Rajya Sabha once. His son, Ujjwal Raman Singh, is currently the Congress candidate from Prayagraj. BJP has fielded Neeraj Tripathi, son of former Governor of West Bengal and Speaker of UP Legislative Assembly Keshari Nath Tripathi, from the Allahabad Lok Sabha seat. Polling in the constituency will take place in the sixth phase of the ongoing elections on May 25. (ANI)

'PoK belongs to India, we will take it back': Amit Shah in UP poll rally

PRAYAGRAJ/JAUNPUR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) belongs to India and we will take it back. Addressing rallies in Prayagraj and Jaunpur districts of Uttar Pradesh to seek votes for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates, he also said we need a strong prime minister who can give a befitting reply to Pakistan. Accusing the Congress of preserving Article 370 of the Constitution for 70 years, Shah hit out at the president of the party, Mallikarjun Kharge. Slamming Kharge for saying people in other states have nothing to do with Kashmir, he said, Khargeji, you are aged above 80 years, but you have not been able to understand this country. Every child of Allahabad is ready to give their lives for Kashmir. (NC chief) Farooq Abdullah and (Congress leader) Mani Shankar Aiyar say give respect to Pakistan because it has the atom bomb. Rahul baba, today, from the sacred land of Prayagraj I will say that PoK is ours, will remain ours and we will take it back. In a video clip that has gone viral on social media, Aiyar is purportedly heard saying India should give respect to Pakistan as it is a sovereign country and engage with it as it also possesses the atom bomb. While Aiyar has said the video was old, the Congress has distanced itself from the remarks made by him some months ago. Hitting out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Jaunpur's Machhlishahr constituency, Shah said, The Congress, SP and the INDI Alliance threaten us, saying give respect to Pakistan, do not ask for PoK because they have the atom bomb. Rahul baba, if you want to feel scared, feel scared of the atom bomb, but PoK belongs to India and we will take it back. He pointed out that on August 5, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi abrogated Article 370, which had bestowed special rights on Jammu and Kashmir. In Prayagraj, he said, Rahul baba used to say if Article 370 is scrapped, then streams of blood will flow. I have come to tell Rahul baba that leave streams of blood, no one has the courage to even throw a small stone. This is the government of Narendra Modi, who has worked towards freeing the country from terrorism. Claiming that opposition leaders did not attend the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya as they were afraid of losing their vote bank, Shah said those in the BJP do not fear anyone. The Congress and the Samajwadi Party kept the Ram temple (matter) pending for 70 years. The SP government opened fire on kar sevaks. You made Modiji the prime minister for the second time, he won the court case, performed the 'bhoomipujan' (ground-breaking ceremony) and also the 'pran pratishtha' (consecration) of the temple, he said. In Kashmir, where the Army had to be taken along for hoisting the tricolour, at that same Lal Chowk (in Srinagar) now, the 'shobhayatra' of Lord Krishna is taken out, Shah told the Jaunpur rally. He said during the previous Congress-led UPA rule at the Centre, there were bomb blasts virtually everyday. The aliya, maliya, jamaliya would infiltrate and explode bombs. When the Modi government came, they carried out explosions in Pulwama and Uri and in 10 days, surgical strikes and airstrikes were conducted and terrorists eliminated in Pakistan by Modiji, the home minister said. Claiming that leaders of the INDIA bloc have said Article 370 will be brought back if the alliance of opposition parties forms the government, he said, Should Article 370 be brought back? They want to bring back triple talaq, should it be brought back? They want to give reservation to Muslims, should it be given? They want to scrap the CAA, should it be scrapped? They also want to destroy nuclear weapons. This INDI Alliance cannot take the country forward. Hitting out at dynasty politics, Shah claimed that RJD chief Lalu Prasad wants to make his son the chief minister of Bihar, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wants to make her son the prime minister, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray wants to make his son the chief minister of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin wants to appoint his son to the top post in the southern state and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wants her nephew to succeed her. Rahul baba, this country is not a grocery shop. We need a strong prime minister who can give a befitting reply to Pakistan. Who is that prime minister who has a 56-inch chest? The writing on the wall is that on June 4, Modiji is going to become the prime minister for the third time, he said. Claiming that Congress leaders say the country should be divided into two parts -- South India and North India -- Shah said the opposition party is not satisfied with dividing India once, it wants to divide the country again. The BJP will never allow another division of the country, he added. The senior BJP leader also accused the Congress of spreading the lie that if Modi comes to power for a third time, he will abolish reservation. Modiji has the majority for the last 10 years and he did not use it to abolish reservation. The Congress, SP and BSP are spreading lies. As long as the BJP has even one MP, no one can touch reservation, he said. The home minister also accused the Congress of being anti-Dalit and alleged that it has always insulted B R Ambedkar. Allahabad and Machhlishahr are scheduled to go to polls in the sixth phase of the seven-phase parliamentary election on May 25.

BJP going to win only one seat in UP: Rahul Gandhi

BJP going to win only one seat in UP: Rahul Gandhi Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that the BJP is winning only one seat in Uttar Pradesh. ''Have you heard (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi is winning only one BJP seat of Kyoto (Varanasi) in Uttar Pradesh,'' said Gandhi while addressing a joint poll meeting with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav in Prayagraj in support of INDIA bloc candidate Ujjawal Raman Singh. ''We are going to make a law for an MSP of farm produce and we will also provide support to the unemployed youth,'' he added. ''We will throw the Agniveer scheme into the garbage and provide recruitment in the armed forces as it used to be done before,'' Gandhi said. Speaking before Gandhi, Yadav alleged that the BJP is after people's lives and the Constitution. ''The BJP put our lives in danger with the Covid vaccine and now wants to destroy the Constitution,'' Yadav said. Yadav promised that jobs will be be provided to the youth after the INDIA bloc government is formed. ''We will take back the Agniveer scheme of recruitment in the armed force and will provide permanent jobs,'' Yadav said. Ujjawal Raman Singh is contesting from the Allahabad Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket. He is pitted against BJP's Neeraj Tripathi. Allahabad HC initiates criminal contempt proceedings against 10 attorneys for 'physical assault on litigants'

Allahabad HC initiates criminal contempt proceedings against 10 attorneys for 'physical assault on litigants' Taking a serious note of assault of litigants at the district court here, the Allahabad High Court has issued criminal contempt notice to ten advocates and also restrained them from entering the district court premises. The high court's notice came after the district judge submitted the report in the case. On April 30, the high court had restrained two lawyers from entering the district court premises for their alleged involvement in the same incident. Some advocates on April 29 entered the senior division court located on the district court premises and allegedly beat up a litigant. Passing its order on Monday, a division bench comprising Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Mohd Azhar Husain Idrisi observed, ''The incident in this case has to be viewed with utmost seriousness. This court cannot allow the court proceedings to be obstructed in a manner that litigants are brutally thrashed in the court room and the presiding officer has to flee to her chamber for her safety.'' ''This type of aggressive and violent conduct in the court will cause a virtual collapse of the system. This court cannot be a silent spectator to events of this kind. A clear and unequivocal message must go to unscrupulous persons that incident of this kind would not be tolerated and shall be dealt with sternly,'' said the bench. It also called upon the commissioner of police, Prayagraj, to ensure that adequate police force is made available on the direction of district judge to allow smooth functioning of the court. The high court also directed the commissioner of police to authorize a responsible officer, not below the rank of assistant commissioner of Police, to specify the criminal history of all the persons against whom notices are issued in the present contempt matter. The status of the investigation or the action taken in this regard should also be specifically disclosed, the court said in its order.

Over 93% Pass Class 10 CBSE Board Exams; Class 12 Pass Percentage at 87.98%

Over 93% Pass Class 10 CBSE Board Exams; Class 12 Pass Percentage at 87.98% Girls continued to outshine boys in CBSE board exams for classes 10 and 12 while pass percentage and the number of students scoring above 90 and 95 per cent witnessed marginal increases from last year. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exam results for classes 10 and 12 were announced on Monday. The pass percentage in Class 10 stood at 93.60, a rise of 0.48 percentage points from last year. The pass percentage in the Class 12 exam saw a marginal increase of 0.65 percentage points from last year to 87.98. CBSE officials attributed the rise in pass percentage to an increase in the number of competency-based questions in the exams this year. A similar trend was witnessed in the number of students who scored above 90 per cent and 95 per cent marks. In Class 12, a total of 1.16 lakh students scored above 90 per cent and 24,068 above 95 per cent. Among the students who scored above 90 per cent, 262 are from the Children With Special Needs (CSWN) category. Forty-three students from the CSWN category have scored above 95 per cent. Officials said the board has also decided to scrap awarding first, second and third divisions based on students' scores. ''According to the earlier decision of the board to avoid unhealthy competition among students, the CBSE has not published the merit list. However, the board will issue merit certificates to 0.1 per cent of students who have scored the highest marks in the various subjects,'' said CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj. The CBSE also announced that it will conduct board exams for classes 10 and 12 for the 2024-25 academic session from February 15. The 2024 board exams for classes 10 and 12 also began on February 15. These concluded in 28 and 47 days, respectively. More than 1.32 lakh candidates have been placed in the supplementary category or compartment in Class 10 while the figure for Class 12 is more than 1.22 lakh. The Trivandrum region recorded the highest pass percentage in both classes 10 and 12 at 99.91 and 99.75, respectively. In Class 12, schools under the Central Tibetan Schools Administration achieved the highest pass percentage at 99.23 while Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas recorded the highest pass percentage for Class 10 at 99.09. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated the students on their results and advised them to make an effective plan for higher studies. ''Heartily congratulate my young friends who have successfully cleared the CBSE Class X and Class XII examinations. While you cherish the success and enjoy the fruits of your labour, do also utilise this time to make an effective plan for higher studies. Wishing all a happy, healthy and bright future,'' Pradhan said in a series of posts on X. ''To all my friends who have not met their expectations, don't lose heart. All of you have it in you to overcome any challenge. I am sure your moment of glory is not far away. Keep hustling,'' he added. The supplementary exams for classes 10 and 12 will be conducted from July 15. Based on National Education Policy - 2020 recommendations, the CBSE last year changed the nomenclature of the compartment examination to supplementary examination. Bhardwaj said Class 12 students will be allowed to improve their performance in one subject in the supplementary examination. Class 10 students will be allowed to improve their performance in two subjects. The official said, ''Three categories of students will be eligible to appear in the supplementary examinations -- Class 10 students who were unable to pass two subjects and Class 12 students unable to pass one subject and were placed in compartment category.'' ''....students who were declared pass by replacing sixth or seventh subject; and classes 10 and 12 students who were declared pass but wish to improve their performance in two and one subject respectively,'' Bhardwaj added.
