Congress Fields Candidate with Similar Name to Confuse Voters, Says Konda

Hyderabad: The BJP candidate from Chevella Lok Sabha seat Konda Vishweshwar Reddy expressed dismay over the deteriorated use of harsh and abusive language by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during public discourses. The BRS used to be abusive of its opponents and the Central government. While Revanth Reddy in the initial days exemplified dignified discourse, he has unfortunately succumbed to employing abusive language towards the Centre and Prime Minister, which is not good for the development of Telangana, the BJP candidate said. Addressing a press conference at BJP state office in Nampally, Vishweshwar Reddy said Revanth Reddy was telling lies about the Central governments contribution towards several sectors and listed the welfare activities of the BJP-led Narendra Modi government. Vishweshwar Reddy said that the Congress government had promised Rs 2,500 pension to every woman, Rs 4,000 financial assistance for the unemployed, a bonus of Rs 500 on MSP to farmers, Rythu Bandhu of Rs 15,000 for every farmer, Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver But was adopting delaying techniques, he said. On the Centre's schemes, Vishweshwar Reddy said, Many economically disadvantaged people are getting free 5 kg rice every month, the state farmers benefiting through MSP worth Rs 25,000 crores every year, getting subsidised urea, the sarpanches in gram panchayat are getting the funds directly from the Centre, many rural works are taken up under the employment guarantee scheme- MGNREGA, funds released for Rythu Vedika, burial grounds, etc. Charging that the Congress always played divide-and-rule politics, Vishwweshwar Reddy said that the Congress had ordered firing on separate Telangana agitators in 1960, which led to the death of 400 people. The Congress party's involvement in Operation Blue Star, where the Indian Army was deployed to attack Sikh militants in the Golden Temple, is a dark chapter in Indian history. The Congress had imposed a state of emergency in the country and altered the Constitution multiple times, yet, hypocritically the Congressmen now level accusations against the BJP of tampering with the constitution. The Congress leaders had humiliated Dr Ambedkar by getting him defeated twice in the Bombay elections. The BJP holds Dr. Ambedkar in the highest regard, honoured him with the Bharat Ratna, he pointed out. The Congress had altered the reservation policy by providing Muslim reservation in Karnataka, which is against Ambedkars policy against communal reservation and the rulings of High courts, he said Vishweshwar Reddy said the Congress candidate in Chevella is resorting to personal attacks, lacking substantive issues to engage in meaningful debate. He stooped to a new low by verbally attacking my deceased mother and my wife, Sangita Reddy, showcasing his disgraceful character. I am readily accessible to the people, with my residence gates always open, contrasting sharply with the locked gates and guarded security personnel at your residence. You're taking credit for the projects I secured for the constituency from the Central government, including the highway. From being a scamster, you have now resorted to deceit by fielding a candidate in my name Konda Vishweshwar Reddy against me, aiming to confuse voters and diminish my margin. Your actions betray your fear of the overwhelming support for me, he said

Spoke to public prosecutor to seek stringent punishment...: Siddaramaiah on Neha Hiremath's murder case

Spoke to public prosecutor to seek stringent punishment...: Siddaramaiah on Neha Hiremath's murder case Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the state government has spoken to the Public Prosecutor to seek stringent punishment for the accused in the Neha Hiremath's murder case. He stated that Amit Shah has referred to Neha Hiremath's murder as a case of love jihad to play politics. Whatever he is saying is because of politics. We caught the accused immediately, we also spoke to the public prosecutor to seek stringent punishment for him. He is calling the incident as love jihad because he wants to play politics...what has he done in Manipur, he said. During a rally in Hubballi city, Amit Shah criticised the Congress and questioned their handling of the Neha Hiremath murder case. He accused them of neglecting security for girls on educational campuses and added that if they are not capable, they should leave the seat of power. Neha (21) was stabbed to death allegedly by her former classmate, Fayaz Khodunaik, on April 18 at the campus of KLE Technological University in Hubballi Dharwad, where she was a first-year MCA student. Her father, Niranjan Hiremath, is the Congress Councillor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. The police arrested Fayaz within hours of the incident and produced him before a magistrate, who sent him to 14-day judicial custody. The CID took Fayaz's custody and was later brought to Hubballi from Dharwad. While a police investigation suggests Neha and Fayaz were in a relationship, her family members have said that he was pestering her and that she had rejected his marriage proposal. The case also sparked protests across the country. BJP has attacked the Siddaramaiah government over the incident and has demanded a CBI probe. Earlier, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that the government strongly condemns the murder of Neha Hiremath and that the CID investigation has been expedited to punish the accused. When I was CM earlier, I had handed over cases to the CBI. What moral right do they have to ask? Let them not indulge in politics with the case, he said. Earlier, Congress General Secretary and Karnataka-in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala also visited Neha Hiremath's family and assured them of justice. (ANI)

Heatwave to Persist for Two More Days in Eastern and Southern Peninsular India

Heatwave to Persist for Two More Days in Eastern and Southern Peninsular India The record-breaking heatwave spell affecting east India and parts of the southern peninsular region continued unabated on Friday, with temperatures settling above 44 degrees Celsius in at least 13 places. Intensely hot conditions prevailed in parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Maximum temperatures settled in the range of 43-46 degrees Celsius in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and 40-43 degrees in parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Marathwada and north interior Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh sizzled at 46.3 degrees Celsius, the highest maximum temperature in the country on Friday. The mercury settled at 44.6 degrees Celsius in Odisha's Boudh, 45 degrees in Khammam (Telangana), 46.2 degrees in Cuddapah (Andhra Pradesh), 43.4 degrees in Erode (Tamil Nadu), and 44.6 degrees in West Bengal's Kalaikunda. The IMD said the ongoing heatwave spell in east and south peninsular India will continue until May 5-6 and abate thereafter. The Met office on Wednesday said above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country in May and a significantly high number of heatwave days expected over the northern plains, central region and adjoining areas of peninsular India. April witnessed record-smashing maximum temperatures in east, northeast and southern peninsular India, prompting health warnings from government agencies and some states to suspend in-person classes in schools. A number of stations recorded their highest-ever April day temperatures. Five active western disturbances led to rainfall, thunderstorms and hail storms over north and central India at regular intervals in April, preventing heat waves. IMD data shows that heat waves this April were far worse than in 2023, the warmest year on record so far. This trend is likely to continue in May, with around eight to 11 heatwave days predicted over the south Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and the Gujarat regions. The remaining parts of Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, north interior Karnataka and Telangana may record five to seven heatwave days during the month. Normally, the northern plains, central India and adjoining areas of peninsular India experience around three days of heat waves in May. India witnessed two spells of heat waves in April -- from April 5 to 7 and April 15 to 30. The IMD attributed the prolonged heatwave spell over east, northeast and south peninsular India in April to the absence of thunderstorms and an anticyclone at lower levels over the west central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining eastern coasts of India. This caused the sea breeze to cut off over Odisha and West Bengal on most days. The weather office said south peninsular India recorded an average maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius in April, the second-highest since 1901. The mean temperature (28.12 degrees Celsius) in April in east and northeast India was the highest since 1901, it said. The IMD said above-normal maximum temperatures have become frequent over south peninsular India since the 1980s. The region recorded 12.6 mm rainfall in April -- the fifth lowest since 1901 and the second-lowest since 2001. According to IMD data, the number of heatwave days this April was the highest in 15 years in Gangetic West Bengal and nine years in Odisha. Odisha also experienced the longest heatwave spell (16 days) in April since 2016. Amid the prevailing but weakening El Nino conditions, the IMD had earlier warned of extreme heat during the April-June period, coinciding with the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections. Hundreds of thousands of voters had to cope with the searing heat when they stepped out to exercise their franchise in the second phase of the elections on April 26. Polling for 94 constituencies across 12 states will take place on May 7. The weather office had earlier expected four to eight heatwave days in different parts of the country in April against a normal of one to three days. Ten to 20 heatwave days are expected against a normal of four to eight in the entire April-June period.

IPL 2024: Venkatesh Iyer Hits 70, But KKR Shot Out For 169 As Thushara, Bumrah Claim Three Each

Ilandari Dewage Nuwan Thushara: Venkatesh Iyer struck a fighting half-century but Mumbai Indians rode on three-fers by pace duo Jasprit Bumrah and Nuwan Thushara to bowl out Kolkata Knight Riders for 169 in Match 51 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium here on Friday. Thushara justified skipper Hardik Pandya's decision to bowl first by claiming three wickets in his first two overs. With Pandya and Piyush Chawla chipping in with a wicket each, KKR were 57/5 soon after the Power-play. But Venkatesh Iyer played a brilliant, controlled knock to score 70 off 52 balls and raised an 83-run partnership with Manish Pandey (42) for the sixth wicket to take them to 140. However, Bumrah claimed three wickets off 18, two of them in the same over, to hasten KKR's downfall as they managed a paltry score. The name Ilandari Dewage Nuwan Thushara -- is a mouthful for anyone. On Friday, the Sri Lankan pacer with a slingy bowling action that reminds of Mumbai Indians legend Lasith Malinga, proved a handful for Kolkata Knight Riders batters. The 29-year-old landed three lethal blows in his first spell of two overs, sending back the dangerous Phil Salt (5), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (13) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (6) as KKR slumped to 28/3 in three overs. Thushara has claimed only one wicket in the three matches he has played for MI this season. But Friday proved his day as he opened the bowling and struck the first blow in the opening over itself. Salt smashed the third delivery of his first over down the ground for a four but after bowling a wide down the legside, Thushara had his revenge as he got the ball to nip away off the pitch and Salt, attempting to play it past midwicket, gets a leading edge behind point where Tilak Verma pouches it despite a collision with Naman Dhir. Raghuvanshi hammered Thushara for a six, lifting him over midwicket as the bowler drifted onto the pad -- the first over costing 14 runs but more importantly Thushara claimed the first wicket. Raghuvanshi hammered the Sri Lankan for another six off the first ball of his second over but Thushara had his revenge off the next ball, as he changed the line and cut down the pace, getting the batter to pop a simple catch to Suryakumar Yadav at cover. Shreyas Iyer struck a four off the first delivery he faced and a double on the second before spooning a catch to Tim David at mid-on while trying to flick a fullish delivery of this pads, beaten for pace this time. Hardik Pandya brought himself into the attack and was carted for a huge six by Sunil Narine off his first delivery. But the Mumbai Indians skipper had his man off the next delivery as this time he out-thought the West Indies batter with pace and bowled him. KKR were struggling at 57/4 after the Power-play and it became 57/5 when Piyush Chawla foxed him with a slower one as the batter chipped it back to the bowler for a simple catch. Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey, brought in as an Impact Substitute for Raghuvanshi, revived the innings with an 83-run stand, starting cautiously before unleashing some super shots to boost the scoring rate. Venkatesh started by hitting two fours off Gerald Coetzee in the fourth over and took a four off Naman Dhir. After a spell of slow batting, he exploded into action in the 12th over, hammering a four and a six off Coetzee, the maximum over extra-cover fence executed quite well. He reached his half-century off 36 balls, studded with five boundaries and a six. The experienced Pandey, who tonked Bumrah for a four and six in three balls in the 14th over, hammered Pandya over long-on for another six but fell soon after as Hardik sent down a slow cutter wide off off-stump and the Karnataka batter was caught by substitute Brevis at extra-cover. Pandy made 42 off 31 balls, hitting two fours and as many sixes, but did his job in his first outing as he helped KKR recover from a precarious position. Disaster struck KKR when Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell, after hitting a six each off Pandya, got into a horrendous mix-up, resulting in the West Indies dasher getting run out. Venkatesh Iyer continued to propel the KKR innings but Bumrah expedited their demise by landing two blows in the 18th over, sending back Ramandeep Singh and Mitchell Starc with two superb deliveries. From 140/5, the Knight Riders slumped to 155/9 and their innings finally ended with a ball to spare when Bumrah beat with an un-hittable delivery as he lost his balance and fell over, trying to flick him to the boundary. Only three KKR batters managed to reach double figures as the Mumbai Indians bowlers used the conditions perfectly to get themselves into a strong position to score their fourth victory in IPL 2024, Brief scores: Kolkata Knight Riders 169 all out in 19.5 overs (Venkatesh Iyer 70, Manish Pandey 42; Jasprit Bumrah 3-18, Nuwan Thushara 3-42, Hardik Pandya 2-44) against Mumbai Indians.

Heavy rush in Chennai airport

Chennai: The hustle and bustle at the Chennai airports domestic terminal has increased of late as more and more people are taking flight from the city in view of the broiling heat with various airlines operating a plethora of special summer services to different destinations like Thoothukudi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Those leaving for destinations within the State like Madurai and Coimbatore are mostly headed to salubrious hill stations like Kodiakanal and Ooty and the others, too, are travelling with families with different places to take a break from the sultry weather that is becoming unbearable day after day. According to airport sources about 40 special flights are being operated from Chennai over and above the regular services, leading to the heavy rush since morning hours at the airport. Apart from the heat, many politicians are also leaving the city with families in the aftermath of the Lok Sabha elections, sources said. Also many families are visiting the hometowns across the State in view of the summer vacation for schools and colleges, adding to the crowds at the airport and prompting the airlines to cash in on the increased demand for tickets. Hitherto, only three onward and three return flights were operated to Thoothukudi, the airport that caters to the people in the southern districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. But now four plus four flights are being operated. Similarly the demand for seats in the flights to Trichy, the city in the central part of the State that connects many towns and villages in several districts, has gone up and six flights are taking off from Chennai every day as against the four before the onset of the summer. To Coimbatore, too, the number of daily flights have been increased from 6 to 8 and for Madurai it is 7 now as against the earlier 5 and many of those passengers are leaving for destinations in the hill stations near them. Similarly, many people are also taking holidays in Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the States of Karnataka and Telangana, impelling the flight operators to raise the number of services. So Bengaluru now has 11 flights as against the earlier 8 and Hyderabad has presently 14 services one way while it used to be 10 plus 10 otherwise. Even people travelling to faraway destinations in the country and abroad has increased phenomenally with a thrice a week direct flights being introduced for Durgapur from mid-May. Similarly, even international airlines like Air France have increased their weekly flights between Paris and Chennai from 3 to 5. Indigo Airlines has also announced the introduction of a direct flight from Chennai to Bangkok, a favorite destination for tourists from all over the world, from May 15 and Air Mauritius has reintroduced its direct flight from Mauritius to Chennai after a gap of four years. Since flights to Singapore, Malaysia, London and other international tourist spots have also increased from Chennai that saw an introduction of about 40 additional or new flights, this May will see an additional 400 flights taking off from Chennai, airport sources said. The increase in number of flights had come as a boon for travelers as they were able to get seats to their favoured destinations and also did not have to cough up huge amounts as premium charges.

EC intensifies efforts to boost voter turnout after decline in LS polls

EC intensifies efforts to boost voter turnout after decline in LS polls The Election Commission on Friday said it has ''doubled up'' its voter participation interventions to overcome the ''small'' dip in turnout in the first two phases of the Lok Sabha polls. The turnout stood at 66.14 per cent in the first phase and at 66.71 per cent in the second phase. Compared to the voter participation in the past, this is ''among the best'' but ''somewhat lags'' behind the high benchmarks of the 2019 general elections, it said. In 2019, a voter turnout of 69.43 per cent was recorded in the first phase and 69.64 per cent was recorded in the second phase. The weather conditions are predicted to be normal in the 11 states and union territories that will go to polls in the third phase of elections on May 7, the poll panel noted. Following the dip in the turnout in the first phase, the EC had directed state chief electoral officers of Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka to come up with additional set of plans to enhance voter participation. The poll panel also held one-on-one interactions with district electoral officers from low-turnout districts to enhance voter participation. The EC said it remains committed to taking up all possible interventions to boost voter turnout in the next five phases. The commission said it is leading a set of additional initiatives for this purpose with chief electoral officers and senior officers at Nirvachan Sadan.

Siddaramaiah wishes Rahul Gandhi success in Raebareli contest, says seat nurtured by Sonia Gandhi with dedication

Siddaramaiah wishes Rahul Gandhi success in Raebareli contest, says seat nurtured by Sonia Gandhi with dedication Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wished success to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as he filed his nomination from Raebareli, saying the seat has been nurtured former party chief Sonia Gandhi with her dedication and her enduring legacy in the constituency has been a beacon of progress and hope. After a lot of speculation, Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Raebareli on Friday. Siddaramaiah said Rahul Gandhi is continuing the noble journey with the decision to contest from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. It's a touching moment as @RahulGandhi prepares to contest from Rae Bareli, a seat Sonia Gandhi has nurtured with her dedication and leadership for many years. Her enduring legacy in the constituency has been a beacon of progress and hope, Siddaramaiah posted on X. Wishing Rahul Gandhi immense success as he continues this noble journey, carrying forward the torch of service and commitment passed down by Sonia Gandhi. Together, may they inspire countless hearts across our nation he added. Sonia Gandhi, who represented Rae Bareli since 2004, is now a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan. Rae Bareli is considered a traditional stronghold of the Gandhi family. There was anticipation earlier that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest from either Amethi or Raebareli, two seats in Uttar Pradesh which are prestige battles for the party. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders offered prayers after he filed his nomination papers from Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli seat. Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra were among those who offered prayers during the puja held at the house of late party leader Gaya Prasad Shukla in Raebareli. The house has been associated with the party for decades. Locals said the puja was held after filing the nomination due to paucity of time earlier. It started with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1967. It has become a norm that whenever a member of the Gandhi family files nomination, they first offer prayers here, KC Shukla, grandson of Gyan Prasad Shukla, told ANI. Rahul Gandhi, who is MP from Wayanad in Kerala and is re-contesting from the seat, lost from Amethi in 2019 Lok Sabha polls to Union Minister Smriti Irani. Rahul Gandhi had won the seat, also a Gandhi family stronghold, three times in a row till 2019. Congress has fielded KL Sharma, a loyalist of the Gandhi family, from Amethi against Smriti Irani. Rahul is pitted against BJP candidate and three-time MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh in Raebareli. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a dig at the Rahul Gandhi, saying that Sonia Gandhi has tried to launch Rahulyaan nearly 20 times and he will lose election from the Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. We launched Chandrayaan-3 and it was successful. On the other hand, Sonia Gandhiji has tried to launch Rahulyaan nearly 20 times and has failed every time. Now he has run from Amethi and is contesting from Raebareli. I want to tell you (Rahul Gandhi) the result from here, 'Rahul Baba' will lose to the BJP candidate, Dinesh Pratap Singh with a huge margin in Raebareli, Amit Shah said at an election rally in Belgavi's Hukkeri town. Voting in Amethi and Raebareli seats will be held on May 20. (ANI)

BJP Urges EC to Extend Polling Hours to 6am-7pm for Karnataka LS Polls Amid Heatwave

BJP Urges EC to Extend Polling Hours to 6am-7pm for Karnataka LS Polls Amid Heatwave Citing the ongoing heatwave in the state, Karnataka BJP on Friday petitioned the Election Commission with a request to modify the polling hours to the 6am-7pm period in the 14 parliamentary constituencies in the state that goes to polls on May 7. Polling is currently scheduled to be held in the second phase in the state in 14 segments in the northern districts between 7am to 6pm on May 7. ''It has become hard to come out and vote between hours 10.00 to 17.00 due to uncontrollable heat. The average heat in those parts (north Karnataka) covering 14 parliamentary constituencies are between 37 and 42 degree (Celsius). The mercury is rising at an alarming level and it would become hard for the electors to come out and vote,'' BJP's petition said. The petition highlighted the alarming rise in temperatures, which are expected to go beyond 40 degree Celsius, and also stated that the number of voters over the age of 40 is high and that they are vulnerable to the heatwave. ''To keep up the good spirit of voting, necessary action should be taken,'' the BJP petition urged the Election Commission, saying, ''In this background, it is requested to modify the time of voting in the 14 parliamentary constituencies from 06.00 to 19.00 hours on May 7''. Polling was held between 7 am and 6 pm during Karnataka's first phase of the Lok Sabha polls in 14 constituencies on April 26.

26 per cent jump in apprenticeship scheme as more youths upskill to get better jobs

NEW DELHI: More and more Indians are arming themselves with skilling and upskilling courses under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) to get better jobs, with the programme witnessing a 26 per cent jump in enrollment in 2023-24 as compared to the previous year, officials said Friday. The scheme, launched in 2016, saw an enrollment of 35,333 people in 2018-19. In 2023-24, the figure touched 931,406. In 2022-23, the total number of apprentices registered was 738,704. Maharashtra registered the maximum number of enrollments in the scheme. The state saw an impressive enrollment of 263,239. It is followed by Tamil Nadu at 101,519. The other states are Gujarat (83,611), Karnataka (78,497), and Uttar Pradesh (71,378). This staggering increase represents a significant Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 74.76% over the five years, the officials added. Officials said the enrollment of apprentices has witnessed remarkable growth over the past few years. This ambitious initiative has emerged as a game-changer, as it helped in bridging the gap between formal education and industry demands while addressing the pressing issues of youth unemployment and underemployment, the officials added. The programme has helped foster business growth and innovation while providing valuable on-the-job practical training and opportunities for aspiring professionals, they said. This symbiotic relationship is driving inclusive economic development, empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds, and nurturing personal and professional growth across sectors, the official added. Under the scheme, apprentices not only get training to enhance their capacity, but are offered stipend support. The scheme's objectives include fostering a skilled workforce, incentivising establishment participation, facilitating upskilling opportunities, and encouraging apprenticeship enrollment in small enterprises and underserved regions, thus contributing to inclusive economic development and effectively addressing the skills gap in the country. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), which manages the programme, also oversees the operation of the apprenticeship portal, which serves as a platform for facilitating the enrollment process. NSDC was set upas part of a national skill development mission in the country. NSDC is also responsible for disbursing partial stipend support to apprentices, both for designated and optional trades, through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism. It also undertakes capacity-building initiatives for stakeholders involved in the apprenticeship programme, which includes organising awareness campaigns, trade fairs (melas), workshops, seminars, and other events aimed at promoting the programme and engaging with various participants. Officials added that by fostering inclusive skill development and creating employment opportunities, this scheme is not only empowering individuals but also shaping a workforce that is future-ready and adaptable to the ever-evolving demands of the industry.

India to host SA women for a Test, three ODIs, T20Is in June-July

BENGALURU: India will play host to South Africa women's team for one Test, three ODIs and three T20Is across June and July. The one-dayers and T20Is will be played in Bengaluru, a Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official informed, while the Test match will be played at Chennai. The ODIs will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium from June 16, while the one-off Test will start at the MA Chidambaram Stadium from June 28. The teams will then return to Bengaluru for the T20Is on July 5, 7 and 9 and they will precede the women's T20 World Cup to be played in Bangladesh in September-October. The white-ball format matches were originally a part of the ICC Future Tours Programme (FTP) in late 2023, but they had to be pushed ahead because of the 50-over ICC Men's World Cup held in India last year between October and November. However, the Test match is an addition to the fixture and a part of the initiative by BCCI and Cricket South Africa (CSA) to give more impetus to women's cricket in the traditional format. It may be recalled that India had played a Test each against England and Australia at Mumbai in December last year. India had beaten England by a massive 347 runs, the largest in women's Test cricket, and Australia by eight wickets in those matches.

Molestation and abduction cases: Second notice served to MLA Revanna, says HM Parameshwara

BENGALURU: Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Friday said a second notice has been served to JD(S) MLA and former minister H D Revanna in connection with the cases of molestation and abduction registered against him. H D Revanna is the son of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda. Revanna's son and JD(S) Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna is also facing rape and molestation cases after a huge cache of explicit videos and photos allegedly involving him went viral. Prajwal is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from Hassan, which went to the polls on April 26. Speaking to reporters here, Parameshwara said earlier a notice was served under section 41 A of CrPC to which Prajwal Revanna's advocate had sought seven days' time. FIR registered against HD Revanna over abduction of woman The Special Investigation Team, which was set up to investigate the sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal Revanna, has replied that it would not be possible to give them the time sought as there is no such provision, the minister said. He added that H D Revanna who was also served the notice has sought 24 hours' time. As time cannot be given, procedurally a second notice has been issued (to MLA Revanna), because law says due opportunity has to be given. If they don't respond to the notice, action will be taken in accordance with law, the minister said. Amid reports that the victims of MP Prajwal's alleged sexual abuse are not coming forward to record their statements, Parameshwara said, We are trying to instill courage in them to come forward and give statements; the government will protect them. SIT has identified those in the video and is giving them courage. We expect more women to come and give statements. Is being part of Modi's family 'guarantee of protection' for criminals: Rahul on Prajwal's case Underlining the gravity of the matter his department is dealing with, the minister said this was not like any other case. This is a sensitive case involving the lives of women and their families, he explained. Stating that a lot of the information pertaining to the case cannot be shared in the public domain, Parameshwara said a second case has been registered. Measures were taken yesterday to ensure that the statement is recorded before the magistrate itself and the process is on and it will continue today too, the minister said. No one should say the SIT pressurised them to give a statement, so straight away statement is being recorded before the magistrate under section 164 of CrPC, Parameshwara said. To a question on SIT raiding Prajwal's house, the minister said he was not aware of it but added that a look-out notice has been issued and all international airports have been alerted, as per the procedure, with photos of Prajwal who had left the country when the allegations against him became public knowledge. A letter has also been sent to the prime minister by the chief minister asking for Prajwal's diplomatic passport to be cancelled. Everything is going as per law with speed, the minister added. Asked about allegations that one of the victims has allegedly been kidnapped by Revanna, Parameshwara said it is being inquired into to find out whether it is true or not. In case such a thing has happened, action will be taken by the SIT, he said. Everything is coming out, one after another, and everything is being examined by the SIT. Some more women have to come and give statement, he added. SIT to invoke rape charge, HD Revanna seeks anticipatory bail

New Rape and Kidnapping Cases Filed Against JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna in Sex Tapes Scandal

Bangalore : JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna and his father, former Karnataka minister HD Revanna, are facing rape and kidnapping charges in connection with the sex tapes scandal. These are the latest developments in the case involving the father-son duo. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police filed a rape case against Prajwal Revanna under Section 376 of the IPC. The charges include Section 376(2)(N) (repeatedly committing rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354A(1)(ii) (demanding sexual favors), 354(B) (assault or criminal force on a woman with the intent to disrobe her), 354(C) (uploading of nude or semi-nude pictures), and the IT Act. Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, has been named as the sole accused in the FIR, which was submitted to the magistrate's court by SIT officers on Thursday. Additionally, a kidnapping case has been filed against Prajwal Revanna by one Raju HD under Section 364A (kidnapping for ransom) and 365 (kidnapping with the intent to secretly or wrongfully confine a person) of the IPC. According to the complaint, Raju alleged that his mother was forcibly taken away on April 29, and videos of her being sexually harassed went viral on social media. Raju claimed that he and his mother had worked at the Revanna house and farmhouse for six years before quitting three years ago. Shortly before the Lok Sabha elections began, a person identified as Satish took Raju's mother to a different region. On the day of the election, Satish brought Raju's mother back home and instructed Raju and his mother to elope if the police came to their house. On April 29, Satish forcibly took Raju's mother, claiming that HD Revanna had ordered her to be brought to him, threatening that a case would be filed against Raju and he might go to jail if the police found him. On May 1, Raju learned from his friends that his mother's sexual assault video had gone viral. Later, his relatives informed him that his mother's legs could be seen tied in the video. On May 1, Raju called Satish to inquire about his mother's whereabouts, pleading with him to send her back home. However, Raju was allegedly intimidated, with Satish claiming that an FIR had been filed against his mother over a previous altercation involving HD Revanna, where she was seen holding a stick in a photo. I dont know where my mother was taken. I fear for her life. I request you to take action under the law and find my mother, Raju wrote in the complaint. Previously, a case had been registered against Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna for sexual harassment, intimidation, stalking, and outraging the dignity of a woman based on a complaint by a woman who worked at their house. Prajwal Revanna, who is seeking re-election from the Hassan constituency in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, has been embroiled in controversy after multiple explicit videos purportedly of him were widely shared on social media. Prajwal Revanna, however, claims that the videos were morphed and has lodged a complaint through his polling agent. The SIT formed by the Karnataka government issued a global lookout notice against Prajwal Revanna at all immigration centers worldwide on Thursday. Prajwal Revanna fled the country soon after the sexual abuse allegations surfaced and was reported to have gone to Frankfurt, Germany, on April 26. Prajwal Revanna was supposed to appear before the SIT on Thursday, but he filed a plea with a sessions court in Bengaluru seeking anticipatory bail. However, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that Prajwal Revanna did not seek political clearance for his trip to Germany. The matter has become the latest flashpoint between the BJP and the Congress, considering that JD(S) is the NDA ally in Karnataka. During a rally in the southern state, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that Prajwal Revanna mass-raped women and made sex videos. BJP will get double digit MP seats in Telangana, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP State president G Kishan Reddy here on Friday exuded confidence that the party would win double digit seats this time during Lok Sabha elections. Addressing leaders after welcoming IT Companies owners and employees at the State party office, he said the graph of BJP was increasing significantly every day and unable to digest it the Congress leaders launched a false campaign against the BJP. The BJP would win a majority of seats in Telangana because of Prime Minister Narendra Modis Tsunami across the country. The BRS has become helpless even before the completion of Lok Sabha elections while the Congress leaders were unable to visit the villages to do campaigning because of their failure to fulfill their promises given during the Assembly elections in 2023, he said. Kishan Reddy alleged the people in villages were facing acute shortage of water and power supply. Congress means cheating, deceiving and dynasty politics and it proved in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. The same thing is repeating in Telangana, he said. Referring to the Congress leaders Donkey Egg campaign against the BJP, Kishan Reddy woundered whether the party changed its election symbol - Hand to Donkey Egg. To cover up their failures in implementing half dozen guarantees promised during Assembly elections, the Congress was indulging in mud-slinging against the BJP. However, the people were observing everything to teach a fitting lesson to the Congress in the elections, he added.
