Leopard caught, shifted to Nehro zoo

Hyderabad : Forest officials captured a leopard that lost its way to the Shamshabad airport nearly a week ago, after the big cat put up a fierce fight. The leopard is a three-year-old male and is very healthy. It tore the metal sheet of the cage to escape, resulting in blood marks on its face, said an official of the forest department. The officials tied a goat in the cage to trap the leopard. Hearing the sound of the goat, it came near the cage and got trapped. As the portion of the cage where the goat was tied was barricaded by a plastic sheet, the goat has not been injured, said an official from the Telangana forest department. The animal was caught at around 7.59 pm on Thursday. Presently, it has been shifted to Nehru Zoological Park. After conducting necessary medical examinations in the zoo, the leopard will be released into the Amrabad tiger reserve. The leopard was first sighted at the airside portion of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday between 12 midnight to 3 am. On Sunday, only one cage and three trap cameras were set up, which were gradually increased to five cages and 25 cameras. There is a small water body near the cargo side of the airport, which the forest officials suspect might have attracted the leopard.

BJP Blames DMK Government for Water Shortage

Chennai: Placing the blame for the entire set of water woes in the State on the DMK government, BJP State president K Annamalai urged the government to act now, during the summer months, to desilt dams, drainage systems and other water bodies, beside removing encroachments, and not to enact dramas after floods cause devastations during the monsoon season. In a statement on Friday, Annamalai accused the State government of only being concerned about advertising itself without bothering to lay even a single brick to build the 1000 check dams that it had promised to construct when it came to power. Since the check dams had not come up, rain water was not being saved, leading to water shortage during the summer months, he said, adding that when there was a flood in River Cauvery in 2022, over 600 TMC feet of water went to waste by flowing into the sea. He also alleged that the DMK government had not taken efforts to get the States due share of Cauvery water from Karnataka and pointed out that the neighboring State released only 78.76 TMC feet water in 2023-24 when it should have given 177 TMC feet. Referring to the Shenbagavalli dam renovation plans and the implementation of the Aanaimalai Nalluru scheme, Annamalai said the DMK government had done nothing about it, besides allowing encroachments of lakes and ponds.

After ECI Intervention Sujata Karthikeyan IAS Shunted Out of Mission Shakti Dept

Hours after the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered for shifting of Odisha Mission Shakti secretary Sujata Pandian to a non-people department, the state government on Friday transferred her to the finance department as special secretary. The ECI order to transfer came late on Thursday night following the Bharatiya Janata Partys allegations of misuse of public office. The ECI had Thursday night asked the state government for transfer of Sujata Pandian who is the wife of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaiks most trusted aide V Karthikeyan Pandian. The BJP alleged in its complaint that Sujata is working like an agent of BJD. Besides, she is intimidating members of women self-help-groups (SHGs) to cast their votes for the BJD. She is also using the Mission Shakti department to persuade around 70 lakh women voters, the party alleged. The saffron party, in the complaint, had demanded that the official be relieved from the post of secretary and not be assigned any public dealing till the conclusion of the parliamentary and assembly elections in Odisha. Women empowerment is not the real motive of the BJD. Rather, it uses women SHGs for its own during election time. There is evidence that Sujata Pandian has been threatening SHGs to work for the BJD and not to vote for the BJP. It has been proved that BJD wants to use SHGs for its own gain, said BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal.

MP Arvind: Rs 43 crore for Nizam Sugars Election Stunt

Nizamabad: Nizamabad MP, BJP MP candidate Arvind Dharmapuri, criticised the recent allocation of Rs 43 crore by the Congress government for the reopening of Nizam Sugar Factory, labelling it as an election stunt. In a statement to reporters at the BJP district office on Friday, Arvind accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of lacking genuine interest in resolving the issues faced by Nizam Sugars. Arvind pointed out that the Congress government had previously constituted a committee headed by Damodar Rajanarsimha to look into the matter, and the committee had submitted a report stating that the factory would be reopened in December 2025. However, he questioned the feasibility and sincerity of this plan, highlighting that the three units of Nizam Sugars owe a debt of Rs 202 crore, with 12 per cent interest. He further criticised Revanth Reddy's announcement during a visit to Nizamabad, in which the Chief Minister stated that Nizam Sugars would be reopened by September 17, 2024. Arvind alleged that this was a mere attempt to garner votes for the Congress in the upcoming Parliament constituency elections. According to Arvind, the reopening of the factory would require an investment of Rs 800 crore, yet the government had only sanctioned Rs 43 crore, which he considered insufficient. He also accused Revanth Reddy of acting like a eal estate minister, suggesting that the government was eyeing the valuable land belonging to Nizam Sugars. Arvind assured that the BJP, having reopened 62 sugar factories across the country, would also reopen Nizam Sugars if given the opportunity. He pointed out the absence of Gulf Board and Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver in the Congress manifesto, expressing concern over the potential impact on farmers and the sugar industry in the region.

Only 3 per cent eligible voters opted for home voting in AP

Vijayawada : As many as 28,591 voters aged over 85 years and specially-abled so far availed the home voting facility that began in AP on May 2. The process would conclude on May 8. As the Election Commission of India announced the phased poll schedule on April 16 and introduced the home voting concept for the first time for certain category of people, teams of officials visited the voters aged over 85 years and also specially-abled persons up to April 22 and collected 12D forms from them. Accordingly, 7,28,484 voters were identified to be eligible to avail home voting option; and, of them, only 28,591 opted for home voting which comes to just three per cent of voters from the total number of eligible voters. The less percentage of voters opting for home voting indicates that the voters irrespective of their advanced age and disability are willing visit their polling booths concerned to cast their vote on May 13. On the other hand, though the home voting is scheduled to start on May 1, it was delayed by a day and commenced on May 2 following the legal tangle involving Jana Sena seeking to reserve its Glass Tumbler symbol only for its nominees and not to allot it to independents and others from registered unrecognized political parties. This resulted in delay in printing the ballot paper. However, as ECI clarified on the issue by issuing an order subject to the acceptance of the AP High Court on Thursday, the state election authorities went ahead to print the ballot papers. The state election authorities say that the home voting commenced in the districts where the ballot papers were printed.

Supreme Court may consider granting interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Noting that the arguments on Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwals plea challenging his arrest may take time, the Supreme Court on Friday said it may consider granting interim bail to him in the excise policy scam in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The apex court asked additional solicitor-general S.V. Raju to take instructions (from the Centre) on what conditions should be imposed in case it decides to grant interim bail and adjourned the matter till Tuesday. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta told Mr Raju, appearing for the ED, that the hearing on Mr Kejriwals plea against arrest is likely to take time and, therefore, the court was considering hearing the anti-money laundering probe agency on interim bail to him. When Mr Raju said he will be opposing interim bail to Mr Kejriwal, the bench said: We are saying we will hear on interim bail and not saying we will grant interim bail. We may or may not grant interim bail. The court asked the ASG to come prepared for arguments on the interim bail plea on Tuesday. Justice Khanna told the ASG: It does appear we will not be able to complete today. So keep it on Tuesday morning itself If its going to take time, it does appear its going to take time, we may then consider the question of interim bail because of the elections. We may hear you on that because of the elections. Lets be very clear on that. Justice Khanna said: Please also take instructions on what are the conditions (to be put in place in case it decides to grant interim bail) because of the position you hold, whether you should be signing any files, official files. When Mr Raju pointed out that the election is one of the grounds raised in the petition by Mr Kejriwal challenging his arrest, Justice Khanna said: Maybe. But thats for interim bail We may hear you on that We must be open to you because neither side should be taken by surprise. Referring to the interim bail granted to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, Mr Raju told the bench: Look at the statements he is making. Mr Raju also told the bench: Your statement will be blown out of proportion. That is the problem with an open court, Justice Khanna said, adding that the court was not saying it will grant or not grant bail. We are not saying either way We have been open about it. Do not assume anything, he told both the parties. The apex court is hearing Mr Kejriwals plea challenging his arrest by the ED in the money laundering case linked to the excise policy scam. Mr Kejriwal is now in judicial custody in Delhis Tihar Jail after his arrest on March 21 in the case. The high court had on April 9 upheld Mr Kejriwals arrest, saying there was no illegality and the ED was left with little option after he skipped repeated summonses and refused to join the investigation.

VRD nets 7.96 crore in April through ticket checking

Vijayawada: Vijayawada division of South Central Railway has earned the highest-ever 7.96 crore through ticket checking during April 2024. This is against the .7.36 crore earned during March 2024 Vijayawada divisional railway manager Narendra A. Further, 51,271 cases of irregular travel had been recorded and 2.79 crore collected. They also booked other cases against passengers, including for travelling with un-booked luggage. Vijayawada senior divisional commercial manager Rambabu Vavilapalli advised passengers purchasing reserved tatkal / normal journey tickets at PRS counters to compulsorily carry the original counter ticket. Otherwise, they will be treated as irregular travellers and full fare realised from them. Rambabu asked passengers to use UTS Mobile App and ATVMs for carrying out cashless transactions and avoid standing in queues for purchasing tickets.

CPM, Congress warn against corporates influencing politics

Vijayawada: During their joint election campaign in Machavaram area of Vijayawada Central constituency, CPM candidate Ch. Babu Rao and Congress leader V. Gurunadham cautioned voters about dangers posed by BJP, YSRC or Telugu Desam once they come to power. Addressing meetings in the constituency, they said these parties favour big corporates like Ambani and Adani. They are not bothered about common people, including those residing along canal bunds. Babu Rao pointed out that these parties are leasing public assets like railways and Vijayawada railway station to private entities, while neglecting public welfare, including construction of a fresh water reservoir in Machavaram area. Gurunadham regretted that despite living for long years along canal bunds, their residents are being denied property titles. Their election campaign concluded with airing slogans for change. They urged voters to elect leaders who prioritise welfare of people over corporate interests.

DC Edit | Probe complaint on governor

A controversial case of sexual harassment following a complaint lodged by a female contract staffer of the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata has come at a most sensitive time in the affairs of West Bengal when the state is going through a multi-phase Lok Sabha election. The legal implications are hard to fathom as a governor, as functioning head of state in a high constitutional post, enjoys immunity from criminal proceedings. But it is not as if governors have not been caught in compromising situations or positions. Given the caustic nature of West Bengal politics, which is an extreme case of bristling Centre-state relations, there is no knowing whether it is a motivated complaint or governor C.V. Ananda Bose represents the patriarchal side of the general misogyny that rules the country. It would be in the fitness of things to say that anyone occupying high constitutional office should, like Caesars wife, be above suspicion and his/her behaviour must be so impeccable as to be way above the casting of the least aspersion in terms of sexual behaviour. Governors may be politically active as is an extreme trend these days, particularly in Opposition-ruled states, but there should be little room for anyone even to say there cannot be smoke without fire when a woman comes forward with a police complaint of sexual harassment. In fact, it is people in power who appear to be the most inclined to be cavalier when it comes to their dealing with women. The case of the Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of a former Prime Minister, acutely reflects how authority tends to prevaricate when it comes to acting by the book against those wielding some form of political power. What the #MeToo movement of the 2010s that sprang up in the US taught most was that any complaint of sexual harassment of a person of any sex must be thoroughly investigated, no matter how high his or her place in society or in the rungs of authority. A big attitudinal change must come about in men, who are more often accused of being perpetrators of sexual harassment, with those accused of such deviant behaviour forced to face probes and clear their names if they are innocent. It is not so much the law as the test of morality that must be passed to show men can control the beast in them.

Shobhaa De | Jai Maharashtra! Jai India! May the worthy succeed

The state I proudly belong to (Maharashtra) was established in 1960. The Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti was actively demanding the formation of a separate state from 1956. The States Reorganisation Commission recommended the formation of states based on language, leading to the Bombay Reorganisation Act and the subsequent birth of two separate states on May 1, 1960 -- Maharashtra and Gujarat. Significantly, Maharashtra Diwas and Gujarat Gaurav Din overlap with International Labour Day, or Kamgar Din. And I hardly hear Marathi being spoken these days. Maharashtrians prefer Minglish! This year, the din in Maharashtra is deafening, as various political parties are busy slugging it out noisily as our D-Day approaches. The average voter is thoroughly confused, and rightly so. Very few know or care which Sena is in the fray -- the cast of characters is the same, but are standing under different leaking umbrellas. Asli Sena ya Naqli Sena Ki farak penda, pappey! The unprecedented heatwave across the state is discouraging participation, as voters ask themselves tiredly: Isnt it the same set of crooks whove looted Mumbai, taken citizens for a ride, and are now asking for our votes? Never before have the candidates displayed such naked opportunism as they leave one party to hop on to another partys bandwagon, after ensuring that their backsides are adequately covered. Who can keep track of these turncoats? Family politics (Pawars) have little to do with ideology and development -- it is all about sharing the loot. Ideology is passe, declared veteran leader Ram Naik. In all this, the Marathi Manoos is nowhere. Nepo netas, like nepo Bollywood bachchas, are hogging all the key seats, while the voter is being treated like a simple-minded fool, wholl trot up obediently on voting day, and do as he or she is told. No chance! Whether in my home state or elsewhere in India, the canny voter instinctively knows whats in his/her interest. Sick of the same old lies and unfulfilled promises, the voter is ready and armed to stage a stealth attack and seize this crucial election, and proving the pundits wrong once again. Perhaps this is mere wishful thinking. But female intuition comes with its own logic. Women read moods very acutely -- be it their husbands, childrens or the countrys. Looking at the tepid second phase of voting, its pretty apparent that the tide is turning and will turn further. Voters are sick of the bombast and chest-thumping, name calling and fake economic forecasts. For those who insist the Western media is meddling in our affairs -- yes, indeed, the Western media is closely monitoring each phase. That is the job of the media. Are their reports malicious and slanted? Perhaps. Are Western countries only interested in how their own economies will benefit if the election results overwhelmingly favour the BJP? No argument. Does any foreign nation really and truly care about India and Indians, beyond their own self-interest? You know the answer. The voter has a strong, analytical, capable mind that is not as easily brainwashed as the Western media believes. All the firangi self-styled ntellectuals and financial analysts who show up to tell us what we should be doing, for our own good, should be served rooh-afza, baraf ke saath , as they zip around the country, and told to chill in their luxury SUVs, while the natives go about their lives. Intelligence-gathering is a cushy job. But its worth remembering that our home-grown psephologists too have consistently got it wrong and misread the mood of the electorate. No matter what level of rigging and EVM tampering takes place, the Indian voter cannot be hoodwinked or beaten. Having said that, if despite the mass ennui and voter fatigue, the BJP does manage to form the next government at the Centre, critics will have to eat their words, suffer indigestion and concede the win in the true democratic spirit that the old India we love has always cherished. Alas, only the very nave and overly optimistic commentator can confidently claim that the INDIA alliance will win. The odds are heavily stacked against this motley, ragtag group that has flopped miserably at providing even a semblance of a united and strong Opposition. The tepid comeback has come too late, and there isnt enough ammo in the salvos aimed at the BJP to damage that party. Yes, there is some sympathetic public cluck-clucking for the underdog, and outrage over the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. But none of this is sufficient to provide a cohesive counter narrative. Which is really a shame, given how Emotional IQ is such a valued attribute in our country. The right buttons should have been pressed two years ago by those whose ambitions were soaring unrealistically. So many missed opportunities! Hey Devaa! The electoral bonds issue, for one. The draconian misuse of the ED, functioning more like the dreaded Gestapo than a respected government agency. These were tipping points that could have been better leveraged by the INDIA bloc to alert voters about the dangers of authoritarian rule. But INDIA blew it! No matter. The wisdom, resilience and practicality of the Indian voter has always but always come through when most needed. While foreign investment forecasts are gung-ho about a clean sweep, and the markets are heady, even euphoric at the prospect of a Modi-led India, with financial top dogs predicting big gains, there are also watchful skeptics on the sidelines, quietly hedging their bets. The only debate worth engaging in is the JODO versus TODO one. The hope is that citizens will vote for long-term political/financial stability and religious harmony (JODO) over divisive politics and hate (TODO). Frankly, the former is better for business. And which young Indian does not dream in technicolour? That dreamer will instinctively vote for the party that creates jobs, provides opportunities. The time for theatrics is over. Nautanki entertains. But does not put food on empty tables. The hungry, unemployed Indian is an angry Indian. The word to describe such a person is hangry . Ignore hang-er at your own peril. And oh there are enough life lessons provided by our magnificent cricket heroes. Young boys like fruit-seller Abdul Rashids 22-year-old son Umran Malik from Jammu city, who has made it to Team India, despite there being no playground in his area. No godfather. No nothing. Just pure grit, determination and talent. Tomorrows India belongs to him and all others like him. Move over, has-beens. Your time is over.

Withdrawal of welfare schemes likely if TD alliance wins power: CM Jagan

Vijayawada : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has cautioned the people that if the TD-led alliance wins power in the present polls, it would withdraw all the ongoing welfare schemes including the social security pensions in the state. Addressing the people at three locations of Narasapuram, Narasaraopeta and Kanigiri as part of his YSRCs electioneering on Friday, he said, The upcoming elections are not just to elect the MPs and MLAs. They are so important to decide whether to continue the ongoing welfare schemes and developmental works or to allow these to be discontinued. By chance, if the TD-JS-BJP gets elected to power, it is like keeping ones head into the mouth of a python and also like waking up Chandramukhi and Pasupathi, who will knock at your doors to suck your blood. Jagan Mohan Reddy listed out the series of welfare schemes that are being implemented in the last 59 months, including distribution social security pension worth `3,000 to the beneficiaries at their doorstep on the first day of every month, development of government schools, introduction of English medium, providing a online private education players content, Tabs to Class VIII students, CBSE syllabus to IB, digital classrooms, insulation of IFBs, supply of bilingual textbooks and financial aid to students to pursue higher studies. He also cited the steps like providing financial assistance worth `2.70 lakh crore to women under various schemes, sanction of 31 lakh house sites and construction of 22 lakh houses, setting up RBKs, village health clinics, introduction of e-crop, enhancement of Aarogyasri coverage to `25 lakh, setting up village/ward volunteer system, support to MSMEs and several others. Claiming that he has initiated several welfare schemes and developmental works in an unprecedented manner in the history of AP, Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the people to find out what schemes and developmental works were taken up by the Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu during his 14 years reign and also as a CM for three times in AP. He displayed the manifesto of TD in 2014 and read out the important promises like farm loan waiver of `87,612 cr, Dwcra women loan waiver worth `14,205 crore, deposit of 25,000 for girl child, a job to every house and unemployment stipend of 2,000 if no job is given, sanction of three cents of land and construction of a pucca house, allotment of `10,000 cr for BC sub plan and several others. He asked the people whether Naidu was able to fulfil any of those promises made in the party manifesto of 2014; and when the people replied by saying no, he asked them whether they would trust him again and vote for the NDA. Jagan Mohan Reddy told the people that Naidu had come up with a new drama by forging an alliance with JS and BJP to seek votes from the people again. Referring to the NDAs new manifesto for 2024 polls, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that again the NDA was coming up with Super Six and Super Seven and making promises which were highly impractical to implement. He said, AP is witnessing a class war and every vote is important. You consult your family members and find out who is getting what kind of benefit and decide to whom to vote. I appeal to you all to support the YSRC in the polls to ensure continuation of all schemes. We need to get all 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha seats to help serve the people in a better way. Referring to the hardships the aged pensioners were undergoing to collect their social security pensions of late, he slammed Naidu for lodging a complaint with the ECI through his loyalist Nimmagadda Ramesh and got the withdrawal of volunteers from the job of reaching pensions to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. It is important to re-elect YSRC to power to restore volunteers to deliver a series of services including pensions at the doorsteps of the people, he stressed.

Farrukh Dhondy | Parsis are now an endangered lot; lets look for ways to stop extinction

In our alley black dogs were named Moti Which means pearl and is an ironic way, Just as on seeing unzipped flies we say So, whats with your air-conditioned dhoti? And of course white stray dogs were called Kaloo The dogs answered to these names as the joke Eluded them. My neighbour would invoke Kipling, calling his cocks Ka and Bhaloo! And thus, we use these pet names for our mirth. God did the same when he created earth. From Yardon Ki Yaadein , by Bachchoo Forgive me, gentle readers, for this naive attempt to address a vital question affecting our dwindling Parsi populace in an open letter to the Bombay Parsi Panchayat (BPP) -- though of course it should be renamed the MumbaiPP (MPP) -- ( as should Bollywood, which should now be Mollywood? Get on with it! --Ed ) Dear MPP Trustees: I believe you are about to launch an appeal in Indias Supreme Court asking it to overturn a judgment of the Bombay high court, which overturned your ban on two Parsi priests from attending or entering the Parsi Towers of Silence and the Zoroastrian fire temples, which you claim you own. Their transgression in your judgment: They prayed for the dead who were cremated; performed Navjote ceremonies -- initiation into the Zoroastrian faith of the children of Parsi mothers and non-Parsi fathers and performed Zoroastrian rituals for a Parsi marrying a non-Parsi. The case to lift this ban was brought and won by caring members of the Parsi community imposed by your trustees on dasturs Framroze Mirza and Khushroo Madon in June 2006. The Bombay high court righteously ruled that you couldnt arrogate powers to yourselves assuming the custodianship of the Zoroastrian religion. Religion and faith reside in the hearts of the multitude for whom devotion to the faith is a matter of conscience, is what the court said. True enough. So, lets get some theology and history to prove it. I would first of all advise you to visit a site in Iran called Naqsh-e Rustam. You will find there tombs of the Hakamanyush (Achaemenid in the Anglicised version) emperors Darius and Xerxes who proclaimed themselves the first Royal Zoroastrians. You will also find friezes of the subsequent imperial dynasty of the Sassanian Zoroastrians. These kings are in buried tombs!! Only the poor Zoroastrians, not owning or affording land, subjected their dead to be eaten by vultures -- the sky burial that you espouse. So yes to tombs, and therefore to other forms of disposal of the Zoroastrian dead -- sky burial is NOT a tenet of the religion. And then this idea that we Parsis are a race and not the followers of a religion. Peculiar! Because in your bigoted mind it has taken the form of prosecuting or banning Parsi priests who have initiated into Zoroastrianism, through Navjote ceremonies, the children of Parsi women and non-Parsi men. While I completely understand that when Zoroastrians fled Iran after the Arab-Muslim invasion and came as refugees to India, there was a self-imposed injunction to preserve the community -- presumably to perpetrate the religion and protect it from mergers, dissipation and disappearance. Fair enough. But what this preservative policy resulted in was a sort of racism and most devastatingly a rapid, now exponential, decrease in the numbers of pure Parsis, and therefore of the followers of the Zoroastrian faith. It ought to be obvious that there were no Zoroastrians before Zoroaster preached his monotheistic doctrine. So, the first Zoroastrians were converts? And so were the populations of Iran and later Assyria, Azerbaijan, etc, who were converted through consent during, and by virtue of, the conquests of the Zoroastrian emperors. Conversion, conversion, conversion. So why not now? You MPP trustees must realise that the number of Zoroastrians is in severe decline because of this traditional insistence that Parsis are a race and not a religion. As the Bombay high court has ruled, a religion doesnt have policemen -- its a matter of an individuals faith. Of course, any individual on earth, of whatever race and ancestry, can believe in the Zoroastrian tenets of humata-hukta-huvereshta , and even learn some Zoroastrian prayers. You will, on the present evidence, not consider them Zoroastrians, far less admit them to the Parsi community. My suggestion, if you insist on racial purity being a criterion for membership of the faith, is that you switch from persecuting Parsi priests to form a militant strategy to reconvert the population of Iran from Islam to Zoroastrianism. There youll have it: millions of racially pure Zoroastrians if you succeed. The very modest alternative to combat the endangered species decline in numbers is first, to recognise the children of Parsi mothers, regardless of the religion or ethnicity of the fathers, as Parsis. The more drastic solution is, as Ive argued in this very column before, to sell the real estate on which the Towers of Silence stand in Mumbai and use the crores thus raised to recruit baby mothers from anywhere in the world and furnish them with flats, a car and an income to interact with Parsi fathers of their choice and make a baby every two years. Sorted! And please ban Nietzsches THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA from our libraries and temples. It is not an exposition of the prophets doctrine but the atheist existentialist Nietzsches use of the persona of the inventor of God to retract and denounce his existence. Your humble savant, Farrukh Dhondy

Defeat BJP in the Elections for Protection of Democracy: Chamala

Bhongir: Congress Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha candidate Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday said that there was need to defeat the BJP to protect democracy and the Constitution. He asked the people to vote for the secular Congress to save democracy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conspiring to continue in the post permanently like the Presidents of Russia and China by changing the Constitution, Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged at a press conference. The BJP government constituted a committee in 2000 for changing the Constitution, but it did not come to power in 2004 which saved our democracy, he said. Stating that the BJP and the BRS were not concerned about resolving the issues facing Telangana, he alleged that then Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao never requested the Centre for funds for development. He asked BJP candidate Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud, former MP, to release a White Paper on the development that he had brought to the constituency. Reddy said that he would work for completion of Dharma Reddy and Pilaipallay canals. Unemployment was another major problem and setting up the industrial corridor from Hyderabad to Alair would solve it.

Bhatti Slams BRS on Power Cut Claims

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said it was time for the BRS, which made false claims about power before the Assembly elections and lost, to stop harping about power cuts as the state was not experiencing any such situation. Bhatti, the power minister, in a statement, condemned a BRS campaign on social media platforms about power cuts and trying to spread falsehoods about the situation. The fact is there are no power cuts and the Congress government has ensured supply of 15,497 megawatts of electricity. In the GHMC area, there are 226 special fuse off call teams in place to attend to any complaints of supply disruptions, he said. Though there are no power cuts, the BRS continues spreading lies hoping that it can get some votes. It has not learned that such fear-mongering did not help it during the Assembly elections. And despite this being the case, it is trying the same tricks and people will once again see through these falsehoods, Bhatti said. Last year between April 24 and April 30, when BRS was in power, there were 1,369 instances of tripping of 11KV lines resulting in power supply disruption for 580 hours in the GHMC area. Compared to that, during the same period this year, there were 272 such tripplings resulting in a total 89 hours of supply disruption. For the same period last year, there were 301 transformer failures while this year, there were only 193 such instances. Is this not enough proof that power supply position is improved and better now than during the BRS government, Bhatti said.
