Hyderabad police book Amit Shah, BJP candidate Madhavi Latha for alleged poll code violation

HYDERABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP's Hyderabad Lok Sabha candidate Madhavi Latha have been charged by city police on Friday for allegedly involving minors in a recent election campaign. Other accused persons in the case include T Yaman Singh, senior BJP leader G Kishan Reddy and MLA T Raja Singh. In a complaint to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) vice president Niranjan Reddy alleged that on May 1, during a BJP rally from Laldawaza to Sudha Talkies, a few minor children were on the dais with Shah. Niranjan Reddy alleged that a child was seen with a BJP symbol, highlighting that it was a clear violation of the guidelines of the Election Commission, according to information available on the FIR copy. The complaint alleges that during a recent rally from Laldarwaza to Sudha Talkies in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency, children were observed on the dais alongside the political leaders, some even displaying BJP symbols. The rally concluded with a public meeting at Sudha Talkies, where the presence of children allegedly violated Election Commission guidelines prohibiting their participation in campaign activities. Photographic evidence accompanying the complaint captures the accused individuals, including Amit Shah, Raja Singh, and Madhavi Latha, among others, sharing the stage with children displaying political symbols. This evidence has prompted the Moghalpura police to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. The police have registered the case under IPC Section 188 (violation of an order issued by a public servant) and are probing it further.

'Rohith Vemula was not a Dalit', claims Telangana police in closure report probing his death

The Telangana Police announced the closure of its inquiry into the tragic demise of University of Hyderabad (UoH) student Rohith Vemula , claiming that he was not a Dalit and alluded that his death by suicide had been driven by apprehensions about his eal identity being revealed. Following their investigation into his death, the Cyberabad police filed a closure report with a local court, claiming that Rohith was not a member of the Scheduled Caste and that he was aware of it. According to the police report, the deceased had multiple issues weighing on him, which might have played a role in his decision to end his life. In addition to this, the deceased himself was aware that he did not belong to Scheduled Caste and that his mother got him a SC certificate. This could be one of the constant fears, as the exposure of the same would result in a loss of his academic degrees that he earned over the years and be compelled to face prosecution, the report said. The police contended that his caste certificates were fraudulent, resulting in the closure of the case due to a lack of evidence. Meanwhile, the police also cleared the then Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreya, Member of Legislative Council N Ramachander Rao, UoH Vice Chancellor Appa Rao, ABVP leaders, and then Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani of any wrongdoing in the case. The report also underscored that no evidence could be found to substantiate the assertion that the actions of the accused drove the deceased to suicide. Rohith Vemula, a research scholar at the University of Hyderabad in India, tragically died by suicide on January 17, 2016, sparking widespread outrage and protests across the country. Vemula's death snowballed into a political controversy, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi taking on the Central government in Parliament and Smriti Irani slamming alleged attempts to project it as a caste battle. In a poignant final note, Vemula had expressed how he believed his birth was a fatal accident, reflecting on the deep sense of despair and discrimination he experienced before his tragic death. The value of a man was reduced to his immediate identity and nearest possibility. To a vote. To a number. To a thing. Never was a man treated as a mind. As a glorious thing made up of star dust. In every field, in studies, in streets, in politics, and in dying and living, Rohith wrote in his note. His death brought attention to issues of caste discrimination and social inequality in India's higher education system and highlighted the challenges faced by Dalit students in academic institutions. Speaking to TNIE in 2018 , writer and Dalit rights activist Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd said, Rohiths death had triggered the Dalit movement and the ideological debate surrounding the discrimination of the oppressed committee. The incident will have a long-term effect as it has led to many protests, discourses and meetings on a national level. In Telanagana, the powerful emergence ofthe Bahujan left and the mobilisation of Dalit students has been empowering. Prior to his demise, Rohith was actively involved in student activism, advocating for social justice and fighting against discrimination. His suicide note, expressing anguish over discrimination and oppression, further intensified the debate on caste-based discrimination in Indian universities. Amit Shah to address a public meeting at Parade Grounds on May 5

Hyderabad: Home minister Amit Shah will address a public meeting at Parade Ground at 5.30 pm on Sunday, said Etala Rajendar, BJP Malkajgiri candidate. Addressing a press conference, Rajendar said that the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had lost the trust of the people in just five months. Congress leaders were resorting to purchase of local leaders and luring voters with cash as they faced a defeat in the Malkajgiri constituency. Rajendar said that the Congress leaders had realised that they were facing their worst defeat and had launched a false campaign alleging that the BJP intended to cancel reservations. Rajendar said that the Congress government had failed to fulfill any poll promise except free bus service which did not require additional funds. Rajendar said that the Congress has history of opposing the reservations for weaker sections. Sahu Maharaj had first introduced reservations in local government in 1919. When the Simon Commission made recommendations for certain benefits to weaker sections, the Congress had opposed it. When the British held a round table conference in 1930-31 in London on the same issue, the Congress boycotted it and Dr B.R. Ambedkar attended the meeting. Then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had opposed the Mandal commission recommendations, he said. Rajendar pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had included 27 OBC members, 12 from the SC communities and eight from the ST groups in his Cabinet. Presidents Ramnath Kovind from the SC community, and Draupadi Murmu, a tribal leader, were elected during the Modi government tenure. The BJP government also provided 5 per cent reservations for the poor among the upper castes.

Revanths Corruption Levels to The Fore in Five Months: Kishan

Hyderabad: BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for a discussion on railway projects that have been taken up in the state during the UPA regime and the Modi government. The Centre is conducting a final location survey of a 200-km railway line between Ramagundam and Manuguru, at an estimated cost of Rs 3,600 crore, he said. Addressing a press conference, Kishan Reddy said that the BRS government had not extended any cooperation even though the Centre had sanctioned a Sainik School at Elkurti in Warangal district in 2017. The Centre took measures to start Navodaya schools, while the first-of-its-kind Central Aviation Research Organisation (CARO) is coming up at Begumpet airport, he said. Revanth Reddy has shown the extent of his corruption within five months of coming to power. The Kalwakuntla rule has made way for the Sonia Gandhi rule. Is it the change people want, he wondered. The Congress is spreading lies about recruitment of 28,942 posts. The new government has just given appointment letters for the posts for which exams and interviews were completed much before. The Congress government has not given a single white ration card in the last five months, Kishan Reddy said. Claiming that the BJP would get double digit seats in the current Lok Sabha elections, the Union minister said that the Congress government was putting up misleading hoardings about Revanth Reddy managing to get Rs 40,232 crore investment from the World Economic Forum at Davos, he said. Though it was the Centre which cleared and funded the RRR, the Congress was taking credit for the same, he said. Earlier, a number of BRS leaders from Warangal, under the leadership of Daggu Vijender Rao, and software employees led by IT company owner U. Venkatesh Yadav joined BJP in the presence of Kishan Reddy.

I will defeat communal forces in the Old City, says Congress candidate

Hyderabad : Sameer Waliullah, the Congress Hyderabad Lok Sabha candidate, said he would attempt to put an end to the stranglehold of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and the calculations of the communal BJP in the constituency. On his plans for the constituency, Waliullah told Deccan Chronicle in an interview: The priority will be for ensuring regular water and electricity supply and establishing schools and hospitals. The Owaisi family, which has been representing the constituency for decades together, has neglected its development. A multispecialty hospital will be built at the place where Chanchalguda jail stands. There is a need for beautification of the city, which I will ensure by widening roads, closing nalas and improving sanitation. The AIMIM and the BJP, he said, have benefited by polarising voters. They have no sympathy for the people, whom they use as vote banks. There has been no improvement in the living conditions of the locals. Training his guns on BJP candidate Madhavi Latha, he said that he was charged about `40 lakh for the 20-day treatment of his father, whose life they failed to save, at Virinchi Hospital owned by her. The hospital licence was cancelled during Covid on charges of irregularities. It was revived by the BRS government, he added. The Election Commission, which is under the control of the BJP, is biased. This was the reason no action was taken against her despite the improper gesture in front of a mosque. This helped Owaisi to consolidate his votes. It proves that AIMIM is the B team of the BJP, he said. On the contention of Congress leader Feroz Khan that the party has come closer to AIMIM, Waliullah said that it was Khans individual opinion.

BJP will get double digit MP seats in Telangana, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP State president G Kishan Reddy here on Friday exuded confidence that the party would win double digit seats this time during Lok Sabha elections. Addressing leaders after welcoming IT Companies owners and employees at the State party office, he said the graph of BJP was increasing significantly every day and unable to digest it the Congress leaders launched a false campaign against the BJP. The BJP would win a majority of seats in Telangana because of Prime Minister Narendra Modis Tsunami across the country. The BRS has become helpless even before the completion of Lok Sabha elections while the Congress leaders were unable to visit the villages to do campaigning because of their failure to fulfill their promises given during the Assembly elections in 2023, he said. Kishan Reddy alleged the people in villages were facing acute shortage of water and power supply. Congress means cheating, deceiving and dynasty politics and it proved in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. The same thing is repeating in Telangana, he said. Referring to the Congress leaders Donkey Egg campaign against the BJP, Kishan Reddy woundered whether the party changed its election symbol - Hand to Donkey Egg. To cover up their failures in implementing half dozen guarantees promised during Assembly elections, the Congress was indulging in mud-slinging against the BJP. However, the people were observing everything to teach a fitting lesson to the Congress in the elections, he added.

5000 km road trip in my Tata Altroz iTurbo: Mumbai to Kolkata and back

BHPian Mgdoodler recently shared this with other enthusiasts. Blue Rocket had plans for 2023, which 2023 decided were not to come to fruition. On charts was to travel to Khar Dung La and Kanyakumari sometime between June and Sept 2023 but due to some personal circumstances all long-distance plans were abandoned. Or so we thought. Thanks to my cousin, who was marrying the love of his life in her city in Dec 2023. Invitations were issued and the plan initially was to make a quick visit to Kolkata for a couple of days for the event itself which then turned into a week's solo drive to Kolkata and back and in the end, turned into a 15-day holiday with Blue Rocket travelling through 6 states and the rest of my family flew to Kolkata for wedding festivities. As per my usual practise Blue Rocket was serviced and a checkup done 15 days before my travel and I drove it for a couple of short excursions around Mumbai. Plan was to take the Mumbai - Nagpur - Sambhalpur - Keonjhar - Kolkata route through central India while going and return via Konark - Vishakhapatnam - Chhattisgarh - Hyderabad - Mumbai. This was my first time driving any of these routes and my first time meeting the Bay of Bengal. As with most of my long-distance drives, this was just Blue and me all the way. FYI Blue Rocket is a petrol, manual i-turbo Altroz.Day 1- 1/12/2023 FridayThis was a day I was looking forward to the most, the opportunity to drive on the Samruddhi Mahamarg. I have already driven on the Trans Haryana and enjoyed it and was looking forward to a similar experience. Left home at 6:45 am - much later than the planned 5:30 am, but I was ok with it as there was a mild fog and starting later allowed better visibility. Travelled across Mumbai via the SCLR and eastern express highway leaving the city behind at Thane, but not the traffic, roads were jammed due to diversions and the first couple of hours were tedious. First stop was to fill fuel at Padgha. Tank filled and the drive started towards Kasara ghat which I would be driving on for the first time and it was a good drive. Stopped for a quick breakfast at 10:30 at a restaurant after Ghoti Bhudruk at 150 kms from Mumbai and 7 kms before Bharvir entry into the Mahamarg. The mahamarg is wide, well planned and mostly a comfortable drive. Speed Limit for cars is 120 Kmph and it is possible to maintain the same comfortably. Heavy vehicles are few and keep to the middle and left lane. It was a pleasure to drive on this route. I stopped at approximately halfway at around 3 pm for a fuel refill and bio break. I also stopped at about 1.5hrs of driving on the mahamarg for a quick photo session with Blue being the model. As you can see the weather was lovely with blue skies and fluffy white clouds - a perfect winter day for a drive and the road is practically empty. Road surface could be better and more functional rest stops are required. Hopefully, these requirements will be fulfilled soon. It was later in the day after 4:30 pm and as we neared Nagpur, I encountered some truck traffic in the fast/overtake lane and middle lane at the same time blocking the road. But it was not for long. Crossed Waifal toll naka at 5:30 PM, having covered 600 kms in approx. 6 hours with a 20 min break. Winter and travel towards the east meant that the sun set earlier and it was already dark as we exited the Expressway and made our way to the night stay - Hotel Pride near the airport metro. Reached and checked in at 6:30 pm. Covering 814 kms in little less than 12 hours. The day had not ended though. After a quick catch-up with work, I headed towards the nearest Haldirams at Ajni Square. Travelled by metro for 4 stops and exited just outside Haldirams. My last meal had been a protein bar along with a yoghurt smoothie at 3 pm and now I feasted on Dahi Puri and hot Rajma Chawal. Dinner done I took the metro back to my hotel and turned in for an early night. Continue reading about Mgdoodler's road trip for BHPian comments, insights and more information.
