Deaf children exposed to sign language from birth match hearing peers in early maths

A new study indicates that early access to language is crucial for children's understanding of numbers. Deaf children with exposure to sign language from birth perform similarly to hearing children learning spoken language. Researchers assessed various children, highlighting the importance of language in early development. The findings suggest that both signed and spoken languages foster academic skills, including mathematics.
