Will Waive Rs 2 Lakh Farm Loans by August 15: Revanth Reddy

Warangal: The Congress government would waive farm loans of upto Rs 2 lakh taken by farmers, by August 15, and give Rs 500 as bonus per quintal of paddy procured from the next season. This was promised by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy by taking an oath on the Bhadradri Lord, Sri Rama, while speaking at a public meeting held in support of the Congress Lok Sabha candidate Porika Balram Naik in Mahabubabad district on Friday. Revanth Reddy who came down heavily against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and alleged that both Delhi Modi and farm house Kedi betrayed the people of Telangana. In the recent assembly elections, people taught KCR a fitting lesson. The time has come for them to teach the same lesson to PM Modi in the Lok Sabha elections, the CM said. He said, Understanding the problems of the people here, Sonia Gandhi give statehood for Telangana along with promises for the Bayyaram steel factory, the Kazipet railway coach factory and a tribal university. But, Narendra Modi did not like creation of separate Telangana state and he neither sanctioned the steel factory nor the coach factory. For the past 10 years, we are waiting for the tribal university. When Congress asked the central government to designate Asia's biggest tribal fair, the Medaram Jatara as the national festival, the Centre ignored the request. Instead, it sanctioned just Rs 3 crore for conducting the jatara. Both Modi and KCR have arrived at a secret understanding in this parliament elections. KCR promised to give five MP seats to BJP and his BRS is supporting BJP candidates indirectly in these segments, so as to get his daughter K Kavitha released from jail. Modi supported KCR in all his irregular works. That is why he did not take any action when lakhs of crores of corruption took place in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project. In return, BRS party MPs supported all the bills introduced by the BJP in Parliament. The CM continued: The BJP government is showing discrimination vis-a-vis the two Telugu speaking states. When there are 42 MPs for both the states, it gave only one minister post in the central cabinet, whereas it has given seven minister posts to Gujarat and 12 to Uttar Pradesh. The people of Mahabubabad and Dornakal sent father (BRS partys former MLA Redya Naik) to home. Now, it is their turn to send the daughter (BRS party sitting MP) Maloth Kavitha home after the Lok Sabha elections. Asserted Revant Reddy, After winning the 14 LS seats in Telangana, all our MPs will participate in the oath-taking ceremony of Rahul Gandhi, who would be the next Prime minister. He said, The BRS leaders are asking the people to withdraw me from the CM post, but they forgot that the CM post is given by the people of Telangana. The Congress is going to rule this state for the coming 10 years. Of the 14 winning MP seats, Khammam and Mahabubabad are going to be the top two. The people of Mahabubabad parliament segment must choose whether they are coming in the first or the second position.

Aatank Supplier Does Not Have Aata, says Modi

New Delhi/Amroha/Damoh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a series of election rallies, accused previous governments of betraying the SC, ST, and OBC communities in the guise of social justice. He pledged to realise the aspirations of social reformers like Jyotiba Phule, B.R. Ambedkar, and Chaudhary Charan Singh. In a veiled reference to Pakistan, he remarked on its transition from being a supplier of terror to struggling for basic necessities like flour. He said the country which was a supplier of 'aatank' (terror) is struggling for 'aata' (flour) these days. He took swipes at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, saying the do shehzade ki jodi has been rejected by people. Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha, in support of BJP candidate Kanwar Singh Tanwar, Modi criticised the Opposition's rejection of the Ram temple's consecration ceremony and accused them of insulting the Hindu faith for electoral gains. Every time these people go out to seek votes from the people of Uttar Pradesh, they carry a basket of dynasty, corruption, and appeasement. They do not leave any chance to attack our faith, he said. They are not satisfied after refusing the invitation, so they abuse the Ram temple and Sanatan Dharma. The SP, for its vote bank, call Ram bhakts 'pakhandi' (hypocrite). Those in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc hate Sanatan Dharma, he said. He questioned the suitability of candidates who hesitated to chant Bharat Mata ki Jai for Parliament while targeting Congress candidate from Amroha, Danish Ali. Will a person, who cannot accept Bharat Mata ki jai, look good in the Indian Parliament? Should such a person be allowed entry into the Indian Parliament? he asked. Modi alleged that when he went under the sea to offer prayers in Gujarat's Dwarka, where Lord Krishna had gone from Amroha, he prince of the Congress said there is nothing to pray under the sea. They are rejecting our faith only for their vote banks. Moving on to Bihar's political landscape, Modi questioned the alliance between parties that allegedly disrespect Lord Krishna. He condemned vote-bank politics for fueling communal riots and highlighted Yogi Adityanath's efforts in Uttar Pradesh to curb criminal activities. Those in Bihar who say they are 'Yaduvanshis', in Uttar Pradesh, the leader who takes the benefits of being a 'Yaduvanshi', I want to ask them, how can they sit with a party that insults Lord Krishna? How can you have an agreement with them? Shifting his focus to Madhya Pradesh's Damoh, Modi underscored India's progress in the global arms market, contrasting it with the economic struggles of some neighbouring countries. He emphasised the need for a strong and stable government at the Centre to navigate the challenges ahead and reaffirmed his commitment to prioritise the nation's interests above all. The Prime Minister stressed the pivotal role of the next five years in elevating India to a significant global power.

IPL 2024: Delhi Bowlers Will Go After All Of SRHs Top-order Batters, Says Head Coach Ricky Ponting

Indian Premier League: Both Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad come into Saturdays clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on the back of contrasting wins. While the DC bowlers impressed to skittle out Gujarat Titans for just 89, SRHs batters posted a gigantic 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. All of this signals that the clash to watch out for will be between DCs bowlers, who have picked 13 scalps in Power-play, and SRHs batters, who have a run rate of 10.81, the best amongst all teams in the competition. With DC returning to play at their original home ground for the first time in IPL 2024, head coach Ricky Ponting has promised that his teams bowling department will go after SRHs top-order batters from the word go. We've done all our planning today. We've got some very clear plans in place to rule their batsmen. First and foremost, how are we going to get them out? I think one thing you can't afford to do against batting lineups like this is just get too defensive straight away. If you get defensive, that's what they want. So we're going to go after all their top-order batsmen, no doubt about it. We'll go after them with the right matchups and we'll hit them with some pace early on. We know the right spin matchups for their batsmen as well. If they come out and try and play the way that they have been playing if they lose two or three early wickets, then that's going to make it really interesting and that's our objective with the new ball. Generally here in Delhi, it does do something with the new ball. There'll be some swing. There is a little bit of extra grass on the wicket this year. So there might be some seam movement early on. So we'll be meeting fire with fire. We know the way that they're going to play and we know the way that we're going to get them out. So I can't wait for the challenge for our players tomorrow, said Ponting in the pre-match press conference. With Saturdays clash being the first game at the stadium, it would mean that the pitch, despite the unknown element, will be a fresh one, offering opportunity for batters to get big runs and for bowlers, especially the spinners, finding slow turn and bounce. Ponting also said he wont mind for a batting shoot-out to happen on Saturday. When we've been away from Kotla in the last couple of years, we've been able to score pretty heavily. We probably feel right now as well that our batting group are batting as well as any other team in the tournament. Our approach in that small run chase last game was great. This year the lowest we've got is 167 and that was when we were bowled out chasing 270 (against KKR). So we had to go pretty hard in that game. But I think our batsmen are going great. We don't mind having a shootout tomorrow. If it's a high-scoring game against Sunrisers, so be it. We know and expect that they're going to play the way that they've played so far in the tournament, which has been going really hard at the top of the order with the bat and trying to post a big first innings total. So we're happy to try and match them in that. We think we've got as good a batting lineup if not better batting lineup than theirs. So we'll see how things work out tomorrow. In WPL 2024, matches in Delhi were good for run-scoring, but as the tournament progressed, it became slower and aided bowlers more, especially in the Eliminator and Final. Ponting feels that giving the venue a break after hosting WPL 2024 means it got the pitches to be fresh and sport good grass covering. We landed in Delhi from Ahmedabad yesterday afternoon. Sourav (Ganguly, director of cricket) and I got in the car straight away and came down to Kotla to have a look at the wicket. We obviously haven't been here. We played seven games pretty much away (last year), although Vizag was our home ground for those couple of games (this year). We had a look at the strip, and it does look good actually. The whole wicket block, as you can probably see from here, has got a lot more grass on the entire square than we're used to seeing here. It was the main reason that we moved away for those couple of games. On the back of the WPL, we wanted to ensure that we had some grass back on the wicket block. The wickets could potentially play a bit better than they have done for us in the last couple of years. So we're really excited to be back in our home ground. We want to make sure that this becomes a fortress for us when opposition teams come here. So we're excited to be here and hopefully, we can start our home campaign really well tomorrow. Asked about David Warners availability, who missed the game at Ahmedabad due to a finger injury, Ponting said, We won't know with Davey (Warner) until we start training today. He did a fitness test on game day in Ahmedabad. He got close, probably at sort of 85 or 90 percent full fitness a couple of days ago. So, we'd expect that there'd be a little bit more improvement from him today. But he'll have to do a lot of batting today against some fast bowling to make sure that that pain that he had last week is not there anymore. So hopefully he's fit and ready to go. Saturdays match will also see Rishabh Pant play an IPL game at his home ground after 1813 days. Pant last played an IPL match in Delhi for the franchise as their lead wicketkeeper-batter on May 4, 2019, and will now take the field on Saturday as the sides captain. Look, I don't think there's anyone happier than me as the coach of this team to see Rishabh Pant back playing for the Delhi Capitals. I've said this already, I think we all had some fears that he might not make it back. If he made it back, he might not make it back as good as he was. But I think what we're seeing as this tournament goes on, he's coming back every bit as good as he was. I mean, his keeping last game was absolutely outstanding. If there was ever going to be a question mark on his comeback, it was going to be about his keeping because of all the crouching and squatting he had to do. But I mean, you saw his work up at the stumps last game and the great catch he took to get David Miller out. We've seen as this tournament's gone on, how much more impact he's having with the bat in that number four position for us. So it's great to have him back. He'll really enjoy playing here. The DC fans are going to love seeing Rishabh Pant walk onto the field tomorrow. So it's really exciting for us and Delhi. For the city to have their team back in Delhi and play a big game tomorrow. It's obviously more exciting to have Rishabh back as captain, concluded Ponting.

''35 Jains, including a businessman and a schoolboy, prepare to renounce worldly life for monkhood in Gujarat''

''35 Jains, including a businessman and a schoolboy, prepare to renounce worldly life for monkhood in Gujarat'' As many as 35 persons from the Jain community, including an 11-year-old boy and a wealthy couple, will embrace monkhood in Gujarat on April 22, a religious trust said on Friday. A five-day initiation ceremony for community members from Gujarat and Maharashtra began on Thursday at ''Adhyatma Nagri'' (spiritual city) on the Sabarmati Riverfront and will conclude on April 22. According to a release by Shree Adhyatma Pariwar, a Surat-based trust, 35 persons will receive 'diksha' from revered Jain monk Acharya Vijay Yogtilaksurishvarji Maharaja. Of the 35 persons, ten are under the age of 18 years, with the youngest being an 11-year-old boy, the release stated. One of the children embracing monkhood is 13-year-old Surat resident Het Shah. Het left his studies nearly two years ago to perform 'Updhan Tap', where one has to live like a monk away from home for 47 days. ''Het found it difficult to balance school and spiritual activities and left his studies nearly two years ago to be with our gurus. He then expressed his desire to shun worldly life. Though he is our only child, we accepted his wish, as we were also convinced there is nothing better than a monk's life,'' Het's mother Rimpal Shah said. Also renouncing worldly possessions are five couples who will shut their business and lock their homes after receiving 'diksha'. Ahmedabad-based businessman Bhavesh Bhandari (46) and his wife Jinal (43), who ran a real estate and finance business, are following their children into monkhood. Bhandari's son and daughter became monks in 2021. ''We saw how our children were living happily as monks. It is a myth that we can't lead a happy life without money or other luxuries. The teachings of our gurus also helped us make the decision. Now, my father and elder brother will handle my business,'' said Bhavesh.

PM Modi targets 'two princes' Rahul and Akhilesh, accuses them of attacking 'faith'

LUCKNOW: Even as voting for eight seats in western UP got underway during phase-I of the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a huge public rally in Amroha, another western UP seat, on Friday to seek support for BJP candidate Kanwar Singh Tanwar. Referring to the Akhilesh Yadav-Rahul Gandhi alliance in Uttar Pradesh, the PM said the people of UP had already rejected the film starring two princes who had again come together to attack our faith while carrying the basket of epotism, corruption and appeasement. Once again the shooting of a film starring two princes is going on in UP, which has already been rejected. Every time these people set out to ask for votes from the people of UP carrying the basket of nepotism, corruption and appeasement, PM Modi said in Amroha. Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi contested the 2017 Lok Sabha elections in alliance. The alliance, however, could not stop the BJP from scoring a landslide victory. During their campaign, these people leave no opportunity to attack our faith. The Congress candidate from here has difficulty even saying 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', PM Modi said referring to Danish Ali without taking his name. Danish Ali is the sitting BSP MP from Amroha. He was suspended by the party last year and joined the Congress which made him its candidate in Amroha. The BJP has pinned its hopes on Kanwar Singh Tanwar who had lost to Danish Ali in 2019, while the BSP has fielded Mujahid Ali. Lok Sabha elections: Keen contest on the cards as eight seats in western UP vote in Phase-I Slamming the SP and Congress leaderships for rejecting the invitation for the pran pratishthha of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya in January, PM Modi said, These people are abusing Ram Mandir and Sanatana faith every day. Recently, on Ram Navami, a grand Surya Tilak of Lord Ram Lalla has been done. Today, when the whole country is filled with the devotion of Lord Ram, the people of Samajwadi Party publicly call the devotees of Lord Ram hypocrites. This was a veiled attack on senior SP leader and Rajya Sabha member Ram Gopal Yadav who had recently said that he did not believe in showing off his devotion for Lord Ram unlike others who indulge in Puja and other rituals like pakhandi. The Opposition had skipped the event, claiming the BJP hijacked it. During his address, PM Modi said Amroha was not only famous for its dholak while praising the performance of Mohammed Shami during the ICC World Cup last year. He also noted that the government of India had conferred Shami with the Arjuna award in recognition of his achievements. The PM also accused the previous state dispensations of betraying people from the underprivileged classes. Earlier governments kept cheating SCs, STs and OBCs in the name of social justice. The dreams of Jyotibha Phule, Dr BR Ambedkar and Chaudhury Charan Singh are being realised by Modi, he said. The PM hit out at former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for mocking his visit to the Arabian Sea off Dwarka. Cracking the Jat code: BJP's strategic courting of RLD and what it means in western Uttar Pradesh Claiming that 'Congress Shehzada' mocked his puja at the holy site for vote bank politics, Modi said Lord Krishna went to Gujarat from here (UP). I was born there and now I am in UP, Kashi elected me its MP. When I went to Dwarka to offer prayers to Lord Krishna, Congress Shehzada said there was nothing as such to offer prayers, added the PM. He continued his tirade by saying that the Congress leader insulted the age-old tradition and faith just for his vote bank politics. He said nothing lies under the sea. I want to ask those who claim themselves to be 'Yaduvanshis' in Bihar, if you are a true Yaduvanshi then how can you sit with a party which is insulting it, said the PM. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had taken potshots at the PM for performing underwater puja in the submerged city of Dwarka in February this year. He had said that instead, the PM should discuss issues like inflation and unemployment. In Amroha, the PM also slammed the previous governments in UP for ignoring the issues of farmers. This area is also known for its diligent farmers. During Congress, SP and BSP rule, the problems of farmers of this area were neither heard, nor seen nor taken care of. But the BJP government is working day in and day out to reduce the woes of famers, said the PM.

IPL 2024: Resurgent Delhi Capitals Face Tough Sunrisers Hyderabad Test On Return To Home (preview)

Resurgent Delhi Capitals: It seems that Delhi Capitals have just found their groove in IPL 2024, something which deserted them in the initial days of the competition. Back-to-back wins over Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans means the side are coming back to their original home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium, on a confident note. But sixth-placed resurgent DC have their task cut out straightaway they will be hosting a tough and marauding Sunrisers Hyderabad outfit, standing in fourth place in the points table on Saturday evening. SRH, the IPL 2016 winners, have created a reputation for posting big totals on the back of blazing starts in power-play, thanks to their bevy of power-hitters. Saturdays match also marks Rishabh Pants long-awaited return of playing an IPL game at his home ground after 1813 days. The left-handed wicket-keepers last IPL match in Delhi was on May 4, 2019. By then, he had become the sides lead keeper-batter. His last appearance at the venue came when he was on crutches in his road to recovery after the car crash, and saw DCs first game of IPL 2023 against Gujarat Titans from the stands. Now Pant returns to Kotla as DCs captain, and has shown ample signs of slowly returning to his best self in all facets of the game. With David Warner unavailable due to a finger injury at Ahmedabad, DC had young Jake Fraser-McGurk open the batting and was sparkling in his cameo to continue impressing everyone with his stroke play. With Pant, Abishek Porel, Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs and Prithvi Shaw (though he fell early in last match), in good nick, it augurs well for DC to have a good batting time at home. In terms of wickets taken by teams in power-play, DC have picked 13 scalps, which is second-best in the tournament. Khaleel Ahmed has been the sides leading wicket-taker with ten scalps, five of which have come in power-play. Kuldeep Yadav has been at his magnificent best after recovering from a groin niggle, while Stubbs, Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel, and Mukesh Kumar have made handy contributions with the ball and DC would need their bowling attack to put their best foot forward again to counter SRHs rampaging batters. SRH, on the other hand, have been at their explosive best as a batting unit, especially after bettering their own IPL record of highest-ever score in the tournament by posting 287/3 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Their opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma brought up the 100-run stand in just 7.1 overs, with the former making a sensational 102 off 41 balls. Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad, along with young Nitish Kumar Reddy, have ensured that the batting momentum hasnt suffered a drop after Head and Abhishek set the base for a big total. Compared to their previous seasons, including being at the bottom of the points table last year, SRH are now reaping the benefits of collecting an ultra-aggressive and fearless batting line-up who hit multiple boundaries in literally every over. With Pat Cummins turning out to be an efficient leader and finding his groove with the ball, especially with the rest of the bowling line-up having an economy rate beyond 10, SRH are primed to give a tough challenge to Pant and DC, who arrive with the belief to keep their winning run going on return to their original home ground for their second half of IPL 2024. Squads Delhi Capitals: Rishabh Pant (c), Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Axar Patel, Mukesh Kumar, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, Pravin Dubey, Vicky Ostwal, Abishek Porel, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Lalit Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Tristan Stubbs, Ricky Bhui, Kumar Kushagra, Rasikh Dar, Jhye Richardson, Sumit Kumar, Shai Hope, Lizaad Williams and Swastik Chhikara. Sunrisers Hyderabad: Pat Cummins (c), Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Jaydev Unadkat, Travis Head, Shahbaz Ahmed, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, T. Natarajan, Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Mayank Agarwal, Anmolpreet Singh, Upendra Yadav, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Akash Singh, Jhathavedh Subramanyan. Match starts at 7:30pm on Star Sports (TV) and JioCinema (mobile).

IPL 2024: 'Fantastic Display Of Skill; Almost Won The Match', Suryakumar Praises PBKS Batter Ashutosh

Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket: After Ashutosh Sharma threatened to get an improbable win for Punjab Kings (PBKS) through his whirlwind 25-ball 61, Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar praised the youngsters knock, saying it was a fantastic display of his skills in the fag end of the match. At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, PBKS were in real trouble of being bundled out for a low total when they were reduced to 14/4 and later at 77/6 in the chase of 193. After Shashank Singh hit a 25-ball 41, Ashutosh slammed a whirlwind 25-ball 61, also his first fifty in the IPL and almost single-handedly won the match for PBKS out of nowhere. But once he fell to Gerald Coetzee in the 18th over, PBKS were eventually dismissed for 183 in 19.1 overs. He's not mini-Surya, I think he made a fantastic display of his skill and in that moment, I think if you bat like this, he almost won his team the match. I also have the mindset to come and bat and be a game-changer for the team, that's what he tried in the game. I had a lot of fun watching him bat. I can't say I wanted him to win the game for them, but the way he was batting, I really enjoyed watching it. I was relieved when Punjabs score was 14/4, I started to relax. As the game went forward, their lower order batted really well, said Suryakumar to JioCinema, the official digital streaming partner of IPL 2024. Suryakumar also revealed that he reached out to both Shashank and Ashutosh after the duo led PBKS to an unbelievable three-wicket win by chasing down 200 in 19.5 overs against Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad on April 4. When he played his first knock against the Gujarat Titans, it was the first time I messaged him, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh both, there they had won the match from a similar situation... I speak to both of them regularly. I have seen their mindset and work ethic, which is brilliant. I hope both of them keep playing like this and not change their game, he added. In the same match, Suryakumar brought out his trademark shots to make a fine 78 and power Mumbai Indians to a daunting 192/7. On a two-paced Mullanpur pitch, Suryakumar hit seven fours and three sixes, showing impeccable wrist-work and collecting boundaries behind the square to hit his highest IPL score against PBKS. I am extremely happy we won this game because of how important it was for both teams. Whoever won would progress one step further but bringing back our momentum into the tournament was important, he said on the narrow win over PBKS. While MI will next face top-ranked Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday evening, PBKS will be hosting GT at Mullanpur on Sunday evening.

PM Modi accuses previous governments of deceiving SC, ST, OBCs in the guise of social justice at Amroha rally

PM Modi accuses previous governments of deceiving SC, ST, OBCs in the guise of social justice at Amroha rally Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused previous governments of cheating the SC, ST and OBC communities in the name of social justice, and said he is working towards achieving the dream of social reformers Jyotiba Phule, B R Ambedkar and Chaudhary Charan Singh. The prime minister also took a veiled dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, saying the ''do shehzade ki jodi'' has been rejected by people. Addressing a poll rally here in support of Kanwar Singh Tanwar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Amroha Lok Sabha constituency in western Uttar Pradesh, Modi said, ''Previous governments have only cheated the people of SC (Scheduled Caste), ST (Scheduled Tribe) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) communities in the name of social justice.'' ''Modi is working day and night to achieve the social justice dream of Jyotiba Phule, Ambedkar and (former prime minister) Chaudhary Charan Singh,'' he added. The prime minister addressed the rally as polling was underway in eight western Uttar Pradesh constituencies in the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls. Amroha will go to polls in the second phase on April 26. In a veiled attack on Gandhi and Yadav, Modi said, ''The shooting of the film, 'do shehzade ki jodi (pair of two princes)', is going on. But their film has already been rejected. ''Every time these people go out to seek votes from the people of Uttar Pradesh, they carry a basket of dynasty, corruption and appeasement. They do not leave any chance to attack our faith.'' Hitting out at the Congress candidate from Amroha, Danish Ali, the prime minister claimed that he has objections in saying ''Bharat Mata ki jai''. ''Will a person, who cannot accept Bharat Mata ki jai, look good in the Indian Parliament? Should such a person be allowed entry into the Indian Parliament?'' he asked the rally. Slamming the opposition, Modi said, ''The SP and the Congress declined the invitation to the Ram temple's consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. People hankering for vote banks refused the invitation to the ceremony. ''They are not satisfied after refusing the invitation, so they abuse the Ram temple and Sanatan Dharma. The SP, for its vote bank, call Ram bhakts 'pakhandi' (hypocrite). Those in the INDIA bloc hate Sanatan Dharma.'' The prime minister alleged that when he went under the sea to offer prayers in Gujarat's Dwarka, where Lord Krishna had gone from Amroha, ''the prince of the Congress said there is nothing to pray under the sea. They are rejecting our faith only for their vote banks''. Hitting out at Yadav and Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, he said, ''Those in Bihar who say they are Yaduvanshis, in Uttar Pradesh, the leader who takes the benefits of being a Yaduvanshi, I want to ask them, how can they sit with a party that insults Lord Krishna? How can you have an agreement with them?'' Accusing vote-bank politics for communal riots, Modi said, ''This vote-bank politics burnt western Uttar Pradesh in the fire of riots. The people of Uttar Pradesh can never forget that era of Goonda Raj. People had to migrate because of it. ''But Yogiji (Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) got rid of criminals for your safety. We must ensure that these forces are not strengthened again in any manner.'' The prime minister began his speech with an appeal to people to vote. ''I appeal to everyone to exercise their right to vote given by the Constitution,'' he said. Modi emphasised that youngsters should especially go out and vote to secure their future and that of the country. Attacking the INDIA opposition bloc, he said, ''Those in the INDI alliance are using their strengths to make villages backwards.'' The prime minister was accompanied by Adityanath on the dais.

Rishabh Pant gears up for emotional return as Delhi Capitals take on formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad

Rishabh Pant gears up for emotional return as Delhi Capitals take on formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad He walked on crutches in one of his first public appearances at Feroz Shah Kotla last year, but when an emotional Rishabh Pant walks out as captain of Delhi Capitals, he will need to put on his 'out of box' thinking cap to stop a marauding Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL match here on Saturday. Capitals have had a mixed season so far, but a couple of impressive wins against Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have put them back in the mix with three wins and four defeats in seven outings so far. Placed fourth in the IPL points table, Sunrisers Hyderabad have set a different template altogether with two of the highest-ever totals of 277/3 and 287/3, which will require lot of heart and skill to counter. Hence, 'Captain Pant' will have to use his resources with extreme caution and guile on a Kotla track which will have good bounce and carry, for a change. Travis Head (235 runs) IPL's foreign flavour of the season will be keen to build on his 39-ball century and his partner Abhishek Sharma (211 runs) is no pushover either, with his penchant for taking aerial route during the powerplay. Head and Abhishek's intimidating strike rates of 199 and 197 respectively will pose a serious challenge for pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar. Adding to the threat is Heinrich Klaasen also striking at 199, who is one of the best finishers in international cricket with propensity to hit balls out of the stadium, which gives SRH's batting a scary look. But Kuldeep Yadav's (economy of 6.06) left-arm wrist spin could well prove to be a game changer and in Tristan Stubbs, Pant has got an ideal third spin option alongside Axar Patel (6.75). Pant, who is himself getting back to the top of his game, wouldn't mind if he can win the toss and opt to bat. But David Warner's knuckle injury is a cause for concern for Pant and head coach Ricky Ponting although Jake Fraser-McGurk has impressed one and all in his first two matches. While SRH's batting has been top-notch on belters, their bowlers have suffered a lot on those tracks with only skipper Pat Cummins (7.87) having an economy rate of less than 8 runs per over, which is considered good in today's day and age of T20. However seasoned duo of Jaydev Unadkat (11.35) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (10.45), have both been average while spinners wrist spinner Mayank Markande (11.23) and left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed (ER 12.44) have been sent on a leather hunt. The best option for Pant would be to open the batting and go for the jugular against SRH, putting a scoreboard pressure on the rampaging Orange Army. In case Capitals have to chase, the idea would be to keep SRH down to 210-220 which would be chaseable against an attack which may not be able to hold its own on good batting tracks. Teams (from): Delhi Capitals: Rishabh Pant (c&wk), David Warner, Abishek Porel, Ricky Bhui, Yash Dhull, Shai Hope, Prithvi Shaw, Tristan Stubbs, Kumar Kushagra (wk), Swastik Chikara, Ishant Sharma, Jhye Richardson, Rasikh Dar Salam, Vicky Ostwal, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Praveen Dubey, Khaleel Ahmed, Sumit Kumar, Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk. Sunrisers Hyderabad: Pat Cummins (c), Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T. Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav (wk), Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Travis Head, Jaydev Unadkat, Akash Singh, Jhathavedh Subramanyan. AHMEDABAD : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday expressed confidence that BJP will win all 26 LS seats in Gujarat. BJPs performance in south India will be the best-ever this time In Gujarat, we will win 26 of 26 seats, with a larger lead than in the previous election, Shah said at a rally in Gandhinagar. It was my dream: Ashutosh Sharma on sweeping Jasprit Bumrah for six

It was my dream: Ashutosh Sharma on sweeping Jasprit Bumrah for six Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Ashutosh Sharma, who caught the attention of fans worldwide with his blinder against Mumbai Indians (MI), said it was his dream to hit a sweep 'against the world's best bowler' Jasprit Bumrah. Despite Ashutosh's heroics, who almost pulled off the heist for Punjab, Jasprit Bumrah (3/21) and Gerald Coetzee's (3/32) superb spells coupled with a scintillating 78-run knock from Surya Kumar Yadav helped Mumbai Indians edge Punjab Kings by nine runs in a thrilling match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. Mumbai Indians survived a splendid Ashutosh (61 off 28) blitz after Suryakumar Yadav's 78(53) had helped the visitors post 192/7. Chasing 193, Punjab were bundled out for 183 with Shashank Singh (41) and Ashutosh (61) scoring the highest runs for their team. During his 28-ball stay at the crease, Ashutosh hammered seven maximums. Ashutosh admitted that he rehearsed the dream shot off Bumrah multiple times in the nets. The 25-year-old took full advantage of the MI spearhead's overstep in the over, dropped down on one knee, and swept the delivery for a six in the 13th over. It was my dream to hit a sweep shot off Jasprit Bumrah. I have been practising these shots. It's a game of cricket so it's very common. we have to focus on our process. When I was playing I had the belief to pull off a win, Ashutosh said in a post-match presentation. Ashutosh revealed his conversations with the team's Head of Cricket Development Sanjay Bangar and said a small statement from him made a huge difference for the batter. Sanjay [Bangar] sir told me that, 'you're not a slogger; you play proper cricketing shots and you should focus on [honing] that'. It was that small statement and a show of confidence from him that has made a huge difference for me and turned my game. I'm now just trying to follow that, Ashutosh said. Punjab will look to return to winning ways when they take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. (ANI)

Will win all seven seats, BJP knows it is losing in Delhi: Gopal Rai

The arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the dubious Delhi liquor policy scam case has not been well-received by the people of Delhi; they are waiting to express their resentment against the BJP and its government in the Centre in the general elections, said AAP Delhi unit convener Gopal Rai in a conversation with Anup Verma, claiming, people believe the CMs arrest on the cusp of the Lok Sabha polls, stems from political malice. On ground, there is a wave in support for INDIA bloc candidates on all the seven city seats, the minister says. Excerpts: The AAP is contesting on four seats in the capital. What are the key poll strategies and how does the party evaluate its position on ground? The INDIA bloc is contesting on all the seven seats. As per the seat-sharing formula, the AAP has fielded candidates for four of these seats. With no division of anti-BJP votes this time, both the parties have nearly 40% secured votes from their cadre. AAP is strategising to sway the remaining 20% who are floating voters. Our strategy is to convince them to support the INDIA candidates. Notably, there is strong support in favour of opposition candidates after the arrest of CM Kejriwal. People strongly believe the CM was arrested, that too only days before the elections, due to political vandetta. After assessing the ground situation, we are confident that we will win on all the seven seats in the city. Looking at trends, since 2004, a single party has sweeped all the seats and this time, it will be the INDIA bloc who will trump the saffron party. How does your party assess the competition from the BJP candidates? The BJP knows it is losing elections in Delhi. Thats why they have changed six out of the seven MPs. In the last 10 years, not one of these BJP parliamentarians were seen on ground; there was little contribution from them towards public welfare. Therefore, now, they have introduced six fresh faces in the fray. However, it would hardly help as there is significant anti-incumbency against them. The party issued a list of 40 star campaigners for Gujarat, featuring the names of top leaders who are currently lodged in jail. Will they be available for campaign? And when will the AAP release the names of Delhi campaigners? People know that our top leaders were arrested in false cases, with the malicious intent of preventing them from campaigning for the party. But we are hopeful; how Sanjay Singh was released on bail, others too will get bail and join the election campaign. We released the list for Gujarat since elections there are scheduled in the early phases. In Delhi, elections will be held in the sixth phase; the party will release the list accordingly. The list of Delhi campaigners will also feature names of local leaders like Gujarat list did. When will the party release its manifesto and on what lines will it be formulated? We are already raising the issue of the authoritarian attitude of the BJP-ruled Centre, and its disregard for democratic principles. We are also informing the people on the work done by our governments in Delhi and Punjab and promising to replicate this model of welfare on the national level. All our concerns and promises are in the public domain; but a manifesto will be released in the coming days. What is the AAP-Congress joint campaign strategy like? We have already started campaigning on ground. The Congress too, after announcing its candidates, has initiated campaigns in their support. As far as joint campaigns are concerned, you will see them in the days to come. Our motive is to snatch all the seven seats in the capital and we are determined to work towards it. Our alliance partners share our cause. The AAP launched a website on their idea of the Ram Rajya. Is this a move aimed to promote soft Hindutva? Our party and government has always respected all religions. Arvind Kejriwal believes in welfare and justice for everyone in society. The website details this view of the Ram Rajya, the one inaugurated by Lord Ram, and championed by the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal where there is no inequality, and everyones comfort and welfare is taken care of. Kejriwal has done amazing work in Delhi and Punjab. We have uploaded over 1,000 videos on the website which reflects our welfare agenda for every citizen. We invite BJP to upload similar videos of their MPs. If they have worked in their respective constituencies, they should be able to produce evidence. Despite having a sizable support in the greater NCR, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and so on, the AAP has not fielded candidates there. Why is that? We have given candidates in Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, Goa, and even Assam. On the NCR seats, allies of the INDIA bloc have fielded their candidates. Since we are together in this fight to save the Constitution and oust dictatorship, we are supporting them on these seats.

Tata Motors may roll out JLR vehicles from Tamil Nadu Plant

NEW DELHI: Tata Motors is reportedly planning to manufacture Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) luxury cars in Tamil Nadu. While the company is yet to confirm or deny the reports, it is expected that the home-grown automaker will roll out battery-powered JLR vehicles from the upcoming plant. Tata Motors in March had announced setting up a vehicle manufacturing unit in Ranipet district in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 9,000 crore. The automaker had not announced whether it would make passenger vehicles or commercial vehicles here. The development is seen as part of Tata Groups effort to turn JLR into an EV brand. Last year JLR, which was acquired by Tata Motors in 2009, said it would invest 15 billion pounds ($19 billion) over the next five years on EVs. The fresh reports come at a time when global automakers are queuing up to start manufacturing EVs in India. Vietnam-based EV maker VinFast Auto recently commenced construction work for setting up a new integrated EV manufacturing unit at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu where the company has planned to invest Rs 4000 crore, spread over 5 years. US electric carmaker Tesla is also expected to announce its entry into the Indian market soo where it may invest $2-3 billion to establish an EV manufacturing unit. Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk is all set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 2-day visit to India starting from Sunday. It is expected that Musk will make Teslas proposed investment announcement following his meeting with the PM. Tesla is said to have started discussions with the state governments in Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP and Telangana for the proposed investment. A few other state governments are also aggressively luring Tesla to consider them. Meanwhile, JLR continues to report healthy growth in sales. Last week, the company said that its March quarter sales rose 11% from a year earlier to 114,038 units, driven by increased production and sustained global demand. JLR sales in India grew by 81% to 4,436 units in the fiscal ended March 31, 2024.

FACTBOX-India's Lok Sabha election 2024: the main political parties and candidates

FACTBOX-India's Lok Sabha election 2024: the main political parties and candidates India, with nearly a billion eligible voters, set off on the world's largest electoral exercise on Friday. The country has more than 2,500 political parties but just 10 of them hold 86% of all seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. A serious contest between a few parties will likely be dominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY (BJP) The BJP, the world's largest political outfit with nearly 180 million members, was born out of the Jan Sangh party, an offshoot of a men-only Hindu nationalist organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). After struggling on the political margins early after it was formed in 1980, the BJP delivered its first prime minister 16 years later in an unstable government that lasted 13 days. The party formed a government with a majority of its own for the first time in 2014 under Modi. It's been formidably in power since. Narendra Modi: Modi, 73, was born and raised in a small town in the western state of Gujarat. He joined the BJP's ideological parent, the RSS, in his 20s and the Jan Sangh nearly a decade and a half later. He's risen through the ranks over years and was Gujarat's chief minister for more than three terms before leading the BJP into a decisive victory in the 2014 general election. A decade in power, Modi remains enduringly popular as he seeks a record-equalling third straight term. Pollsters predict an easy win for him and the BJP, powered by consistent wooing of the Hindu majority, strong economic growth and handouts. Modi is seeking to be re-elected from Varanasi, a city of religious significance to Hindus in the populous northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Amit Shah: A close Modi aide, Shah is India's home affairs minister - a position critical to matters of national security. He became the president of the ruling BJP in 2014 after Modi stormed to power and took up a cabinet position in Modi's second term in 2019. Shah is credited with helping shepherd Modi's Hindu-first agenda such as stripping Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir of its special status as a state and implementing a contentious citizenship law that critics say discriminates against Muslims. Shah is seeking to be re-elected from Gujarat's Gandhinagar, the capital of the state. INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS The Congress is India's oldest political party and governed India for more than two-thirds of the years since independence in 1947 but has struggled after Modi swept to power. Congress gave the its first and only woman prime minister, Indira Gandhi, and introduced comprehensive economic reforms in 1991 making way for the evolution of an open market economy. But it crashed out of power in 2014 against the Modi onslaught and a series of corruption allegations. Rahul Gandhi: Modi's fiercest opponent and Congress's star campaigner, Gandhi has never been a minister in a federal or state government, has not led his party to a general election victory, and quit as party chief after a miserable performance at the last parliamentary polls in 2019. Yet he remains at the centre of India's opposition politics and Modi's main target. His father, grandmother and great-grandfather were all prime ministers and led the country for more than 37 years. Gandhi, 53, is a four-time parliament member who has struggled to mobilise masses to support a wobbly 26-member opposition alliance he helped stitch together. He set off on two cross-country walks to invigorate his campaign and tap into disenchantment over lack of jobs, income inequality and rural distress. Gandhi is fighting this election from Wayanad in the southern state of Kerala. The matriarch of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, Sonia Gandhi, has decided to not contest in this year's election. AAM AADMI PARTY (AAP) The Aam Aadmi or Common Person's Party emerged from a strong anti-corruption movement in 2011 that swelled amid protests led by Anna Hazare - a self-styled crusader backed by close aide Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal formed the AAP in 2012 and formed a local government in the national capital Delhi in 2015, staging an unexpected political upset for established parties like the BJP and Congress. Kejriwal, who has been Delhi's chief minister since, is a staunch Modi critic and a Congress ally in the upcoming elections. However, AAP's prospects are clouded by pre-election arrests of most of its high-profile leaders, including Kejriwal, in an alleged graft case. The party that also runs Punjab state dismisses the allegations as a desperate attempt to malign the image of Kejriwal. DRAVIDA MUNNETRA KAZHAGAM (DMK) A strong regional force in India's south, the DMK is India's third-largest party in terms of the number of seats it holds in the lower house of parliament. A Congress ally, DMK also runs Tamil Nadu state, where the poverty rate is 2%, one of the lowest in the nation, and boasts a high literacy rate. ALL INDIA TRINAMOOL CONGRESS (TMC) India's fourth-largest party by seats in parliament, the Trinamool Congress holds power in West Bengal in the east, another state the BJP has struggled to crack. The party came into being nearly 25 years ago after it splintered from the Congress. Founder of the party Mamata Banerjee has been the state head for nearly 13 years and is now a reluctant Congress ally in fighting the BJP in the 2024 polls. Her party has joined the 26-member opposition bloc but failed to clinch an agreement over who will fight from which seat in the state. One of the TMC candidates for the election is Mahua Moitra, a persistent critic of Modi. A former investment banker, Mitra was expelled from parliament last year over allegations of accepting bribes from a businessman in exchange for parliamentary questions. Mitra says the charges are trumped-up. (Writing by Shivangi Acharya; Editing by Raju Gopalakrishnan)

Mohan Guruswamy | Elections 2024: Modi up a steep & slippery slope?

Be it a democracy or a dictatorship, governments are almost always changed by throwing out the incumbent. The former is called a democratic transition and the latter is inevitably a revolution. Even if it is, as usually is the case, more of the same. Indias electoral process that begins on April 19 will be concluded on June 4 when the results are announced. Most psephologists, commentators, astrologers and bazar gossips are sanguine that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be easily re-elected to a third successive term. I do not agree with that sanguinity. I think Mr Modi has a hard hill to climb and the slope may be too steep and slippery for him. Look at the objective reality. In 2019, the BJP won 303 seats or almost 56 per cent of the Lok Sabha with 37.4 per cent of the popular vote. This skew is how it usually is in a first-past-the-post system. Even a minority mandate translates into an overwhelming outcome. But the problem with the BJP mandate is that it is concentrated in a minority of states. The saffron mandate is restricted almost entirely to the large Hindi-speaking states (202/235), as well as Maharashtra (41/48) and Karnataka (25/28). It got 268 out of its 303 in just this concentration. Winning these states is not the issue for the BJP. Repeating this performance is. The BJP governments in these states have not exactly covered themselves with glory. The party got resoundingly thrashed in the recent state elections in Karnataka, where Mr Modi fully deployed his mind spread and headgears, turning it into a Modi versus Congress contest. In the years after 2014, the BJP has turned every election, including for municipal councils, into a Modi versus the rest contest. It has lost many of these. For Prime Minister Modi to repeat 2019, we have to assume that the electorate is able to selectively choose Mr Modi for Parliament and not for the Assemblies. But a lot of murky waters have flowed down the Ganga, the Narmada and Godavari since 2019. The effects of demonetisation (2016), the Covid-19 lockdowns and general mismanagement have set India on a much lower growth trajectory than the one it was between 2004 and 2014. In that decade Indias GDP grew from $721 billion to $2.03 trillion, or an increase of 182 per cent; while in 2024 it grew to $3.75 trillion from $2.03 trillion, or by 86.6 per cent. But lower growth has not slowed down the accumulation of wealth with the upper class. Income inequality is among the highest in the world now. At the end of 2022, the wealth Gini coefficient of India stood at 82.3, a significant increase compared to 74.7 in 2000. Joblessness and job dissatisfaction have grown to dominate our economic and social landscape. The ILOs India Employment Report 2024 paints a bleak outlook for the 7-8 million youth being added to the labour force each year, with youth accounting for almost 83 per cent of Indias unemployed workforce. Even more distressing is that among the unemployed, the proportion of educated young people, those who have had a secondary-level education or higher, has doubled to 65.7 per cent now from 35.2 per cent in 2000. Unemployed graduates (29.1%) outnumber illiterates (3.4%) by nine times. This underscores the shortage of jobs requiring skills and education. The peasantry is disaffected and has taken to the highways again. While the Jat peasantry of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh fattened on assured MSP and near 100 per cent procurement wants more, the peasantry in the rest of the country chaffs at state regulations to control prices and hence restrict their incomes. The fragmentation of land holdings has only added to farmer discontent. Ironically, it is widespread even among those who get all and those who get little. That this general mood will not affect Mr Modis standing in the saffron belt even somewhat, despite a half-constructed temple in Ayodhya, is to be excessively hopeful. People are natural repositories of discontent. Even after Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya it didnt take people too long to raise uncomfortable questions and Queen Sita had to seek refuge in Valmikis ashram. Mr Modi has to deal with discontent and in all likelihood there will be attrition. In each of the saffron states, the BJP won in 2019 with well over 50 per cent of the popular vote. In Gujarat, it polled as much as 62 per cent, in UP it currently holds 64 seats with 49.56 per cent, and in MP and Rajasthan it had over 58 per cent each. Only in Assam did the BJP do well (9/12) with only 36 per cent of the vote. Even in West Bengal, where Mr Modi waged a vicious and personalised campaign against Mamata Banerjee to win 18 seats, it won 40 per cent. The picture is clear, there is too little room to climb higher, while a drop could be very precipitous in terms of seats. Presuming Mr Modi will lose support in the BJPs existing strongholds, where can it hope to make up for the losses? Let's start from the South. It is very unlikely to gain any seats in Tamil Nadu and Kerala -- meaning zero will remain zero. It has 25 out of 28 in Karnataka, which is unlikely to be repeated. The Congress is expected to make strong gains here. The BJP has a recently cobbled up an alliance with the TDP, which could mean a couple of seats in Andhra Pradesh. It has four in Telangana and is unlikely to add to it. Thus, even a 10 per cent loss in seats in the saffron heartland and a further loss of, say 10-15 in Karnataka, will leave it well below the halfway mark. Along with its on and off ally, the JD(U), the BJP won 39/40 in Bihar. With the RJD resurgent and a settled alliance with the Congress, that record is unlikely to be maintained. The INDIA alliance is tipped to easily do double digits or even 50 per cent of the seats in Bihar. The AAP/Congress alliance might sweep Delhis seven seats. The saffron alliance won 41/48 in Maharashtra. With every party split in the state and with an uninspiring state leadership, Mr Modi alone may not be able to pull all the chestnuts out of the fire. Spread it on a spreadsheet and see how the cookie crumbles. It doesnt look like the BJP is anywhere near 400. Even the halfway mark of 272 looks like a hard climb.
