Two persons, Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21), hailing from Bihar, who were on the run following a shooting incident outside Salman Khan's residence in Bandra, have been arrested and have now been remanded in police custody until April 25. Mumbai: A Mumbai court has ordered the detention of two individuals arrested in connection with the shooting incident outside Bollywood star Salman Khan's home until April 25. The accused, Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21), both from Bihar, had fled after the shooting occurred outside Khan's residence in the Bandra area on Sunday morning. Late Monday night, police managed to apprehend the duo from Mata No Madh village in Gujarat's Kutch district. Following their arrest, the two were brought to Mumbai and presented before a magistrate's court on Tuesday. The crime branch requested a 14-day custody of the suspects, stating that their interrogation was necessary to uncover details of any conspiracy and to identify the mastermind behind the shooting incident. However, the court granted a nine-day custody of the accused until April 25. According to police sources, the two suspects had conducted surveillance around the actor's residence in Bandra on three occasions prior to the shooting. The shooting incident occurred around 5 am on Sunday, when two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire outside the 58-year-old actor's residence at Galaxy Apartment in Mumbai's Bandra area before fleeing the scene. Amritsar: A tragic incident has shaken Jalandhar district in Punjab, where a young man was brutally stabbed to death, sustaining 17 grievous wounds across his body. The victim, identified as Ankit Jamba, was attacked while he was en route to the hospital with his pregnant wife, Manisha, who also sustained injuries in the assault and is currently undergoing treatment. The alleged perpetrators, led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker Karan Malli and his accomplices, have been accused of the murder, prompting police intervention and an ongoing investigation into the matter. The harrowing incident unfolded in the Chai Mango area of Basti Sheikh locality in Jalandhar. Ankit, a 26-year-old entrepreneur who owned a plastic manufacturing factory, was riding his bike with his wife when they were intercepted by Karan Malli and five other individuals. Without provocation, the assailants launched a vicious attack on Ankit, repeatedly stabbing him in the stomach, back, and head, resulting in fatal injuries. According to police sources, a PCR call alerted the Kotwali police station about a quarrel that erupted during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. At approximately 1:50 AM, LNJP Hospital reported the admission of Md Saquib and Luv Kush, both bearing gunshot wounds. Providing further context, the police stated, Around 12:00 AM, a vehicle traveling from Kodia Pul to Chatta Rail Crossing collided with an e-rickshaw, triggering an altercation. India forecasts above average monsoon rains in boost to crop output, economy India said on Monday it is likely to receive above average monsoon rainfall in 2024, in a potential boost for the country which depends heavily on the summer rains for its farm output. The lifeblood of India's economy delivers nearly 70% of the rain needed to water crops and recharge reservoirs and aquifers, with nearly half of its farmland, without any irrigation, depending on the June-September rains to grow a number of crops. A spell of good rains could lift farm and wider economic growth, helping to bring down food price inflation, which has remained above the central bank's comfort level in recent months and prompted it to resist cutting lending rates. The monsoon, which usually arrives over the southern tip of Kerala state around June 1 and retreats in mid-September, is expected to total 106% of the long-term average this year, said M. Ravichandran, secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences. India badly needs good monsoon rains as below-normal rainfall in 2023 depleted reservoir levels and hit food production. The government responded by imposing curbs on exports of sugar, rice, onions, and wheat. Resuming exports depends on how quickly production recovers in 2024, which is not possible without good monsoon rainfall. The forecast based on both dynamical and statistical models suggest that quantitatively the monsoon seasonal rainfall during June to September is likely to be 106% of the long period average, Ravichandran said during a news conference. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines average or normal rainfall as between 96% and 104% of a 50-year average of 87 cm (35 inches) for the four-month season. IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said El Nio was weakening and it would enter a neutral stage by the time the monsoon sets in. La Nia, which increases rainfall in India, would then set in by August, he added. The IMD's first stage forecast indicates that the monsoon will be above normal, and this is positive for the food inflation outlook provided the distribution is even, IDFC First Bank economist Gaura Sengupta said. For fiscal year 2024/25, we expect headline inflation to average at 4.5% versus 5.4% (last year), supported by easing in food inflation pressures and core inflation remaining contained, Sengupta said. India imposed export curbs on rice and other commodities just before the election to address rising prices caused by below-normal rainfall. However, with surplus rainfall, production could improve, allowing New Delhi to ease these export curbs, particularly those on rice shipments, said a New-Delhi-based dealer with a global trade house.

According to the European Court of Auditors & the European Commission, the real-world data on the fuel economy of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid cars are hugely different from their official laboratory-calculated fuel consumption & CO2 emission figures. As per the report, when the first sample of cars registered in 2022 was tested, the WLTP test regime overestimated the fuel economy of petrol cars by 23.7% and diesel cars by 18.1%. Similarly, PHEVs averaged CO2 emission figures of 139.5 g/km - which was 23% better than the average of ICE engines. However, in the real world, the report suggested that PHEVs aren't being charged as often as estimated in the WLTP tests. The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) arrived in 2017, replacing the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test, which dates back to 1992. The WLTP tests are longer, conducted over a larger distance, less stopping, higher average speeds and require greater levels of acceleration. The WLTP test regime was assured to be ased on a global statistical survey of real driving profiles. However, since 2021, the EU has found the tests to be significantly overestimating the real-world economy of vehicles. The EU got proof of this after installing onboard fuel consumption monitoring devices in each vehicle sold in its member countries. The first results of these monitoring devices have now come out, throwing doubt on the official test figures. The European Court of Auditors stated, The key challenge for meeting emission-reduction targets for 2030 and beyond will be to ensure a sufficient uptake of zero-emission vehicles. In particular, it will be important to address electric vehicle affordability, provide sufficient electric vehicle charging infrastructure and secure the supply of raw materials to produce batteries.
